  1. They're going to end up losing this game. I just know it.
  2. Marlins chipping away.... Come on, don't blow this big lead on my birthday, guys. All I want is a win.
  3. Z has had cramping and stiffness issues in the past due to dehydration. You'd think the coaching staff would be on him all day about drinking lots of fluids.
  4. Hendry's biggest flaw, IMO, is overpaying for middling relievers and bench players. I could definitely see Hendry extending Grabow to some kind of a 3 year deal worth 3+ mil per. After the Miles deal, anything is possible.
  5. First place makes me do this: \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
  6. :?: Did you miss the memo? This year's theme was to get more left handed because the RH pitching staff in LA made the Cubs look like clowns. I think any pitching staff would have made the Cubs look like clowns for as poorly as they played this past offseason. Hendry gets these team philosophies in his head. They're all ridiculous, and he never sticks with them for more than a year, anyway. Do we still want guys who can catch the ball? Next offseason he'll forget all about being more left-handed and will be all about guys with speed or something.
  7. Not an earth-shattering trade, but it gives us the potential to move some guys around (mostly Marshall) into roles in which they'll better serve us. And we didn't give up too much for it. At worst, this trade is a wash. At best, it'll turn out to be decent.
  8. If you give up 2 XBH to Mike Fontenot, you don't belong on a major league mound.
  9. Off to work. Hoping we set aside the Florida curse and take 2 out of 3 this weekend from the Fish.
  10. Can people set aside the player-crushes and look at this realistically for a second? Realistically it's ridiculous to pretend not offering arbitration was a good idea. If he accepts, we have a good reliever. If he doesn't, we get 2 draft picks. The downside is where?
  11. Gorzelanny? Why? Check out his 3 year numbers vs leftys they are pretty damn good Plus he made Billy Crystal look pretty bad in Spring Training. That's gotta be worth something.
  12. You absolutely no clue how much Wood would have made if he accepted, do you? Arbitration can't be less than like 80% of his salary, correct? So approximately 8 million or so? Still would have been worth it. You have absolutely no clue how Wood is doing this year and what the Cubs' financial situation is, do you? Wood is struggling in his first year in a new league, and the Cubs are for sale. Any other stupid questions?
  13. Within my immediate reach I have an empty peanut jar and a fork. That's about the equivalent of what we've given the Pirates in the past.

  15. Oh, and this is late, but good on Hart for not giving any of those runs back last inning.
  16. Remember when almost everyone except me thought that cutting ties with Wood and not offering him arbitration and acquiring Gregg to replace Marmol in the setup role as Marmol (inevitably) closed was a terrible idea? I do. You could debate cutting ties with him. But not offering him arbitration, which if he turns down we get 2 draft picks, is inexcusable.
  17. But Jim Hendry kicked my dog. Hey, what has he got against you, anyway? Oh, he's just mad at me because I accidently ran over his dog. And by "accidentally", i mean "repeatedly." And by "dog", I mean "son."
  18. Are you really judging a prospects-for-big leaguer trade 6 months after the trade? Especially when the 3 prospects have performed rather well in the minors? Are you really saying you can't criticize a trade of a player when the team went out and replaced said player with Aaron Freaking Miles? This. Also, not offering arbitration to Kerry Wood to get the draft picks, Ceda for Gregg (even though Gregg has gotten somewhat better), Izturis, Ordonez, Bynum, Neifi, severely overpaying for Aaron Miles when you could have paid 1/10th as much for the same talent, trading Eyre instead of Howry, trading Wuertz for nothing, not giving Vizcaino a fair chance, not firing Dusty, Soriano's albatross of a contract.... need I go on? Yes, he brought Harden, Lee, Nomar, Aram, Lee, Lilly here. I'm not going to say he hasn't made good moves, because he has, but his bad moves outnumber his good ones. Don't forget Wuertz for a bag of crap.

Are you really saying you can't criticize a trade of a player when the team went out and replaced said player with Aaron Freaking Miles? But that's different. That's a criticism of a free agent signing of the replacement player (especially when the likes of Orlando Hudson were available this offseason). No, it isn't different. It was a transaction where he replaced one player with another. Trading DeRosa was not a problem, getting relievers for him and then not having a suitable backup to 3B on the roster and having Aaron Freaking Miles signed to 2 years is even worse. Goony must have eaten an entire box of Awesome-O's this morning, because he's been dead on in this thread.

  21. guh....come on. i'm in a good mood and you bring this. Vitters for Grabow? Name the last time Hendry traded a TOP prospect during the season? I mean someon of Vitters ability. Hate on Hendry if you want, but he does do trades very solid. Yeah, that DeRosa trade really worked out for us. Hendry has made some very good trades, but he's made more bad-to-awful ones.
  22. We are lucky dogs playing awful teams. One of the things a good team does is beat up on the awful teams. I wish the Cubs would have done more of that in past years, like not getting pounded by teams like the Expos down the stretch in 2004.
  23. When a 1-22 Fontentot Triples off of you, you should just walk off the mound and hit the showers, because it's not happening today.
