  1. Vitters, Wells, Fox, Marshall, and Gaub?
  2. How is it a terrible idea to just try it out in meaningless games after the season? If it doesn't work, he'll probably just come off the bench again next year or be part of a trade package. This isn't set in stone. Because it is taking development time away from a position he could learn. The cost is low, but the opportunity cost is high. But the only place he really could play every day is 2B. All the other positions on the field are filled. Either he'd have to come off the bench or we trade him. I just don't see any other position he could learn that could be of use to us right now. He won't catch. He won't be in the OF next year barring injury. Corner infield is set, and Theriot isn't going anywhere. Where else is there?

This isn't set in stone. Because he in no way a middle infielder. So if that's the case, then we find out in the Arizona Fall League and reassess. No harm done. I just don't see the downside here in trying him in exhibition games after the regular season is over.

  5. He ought to be getting serious ROY consideration anyway.
  6. During the game tonight, the ESPN announcers said that the Cubs are looking at having Jake Fox play 2nd in the Arizona Fall League and see what becomes of it. If he's not horrible, maybe he'll start there next year. It sure would be nice to find a place for his bat.
  7. McCutchen just went deep again for the Pirates. I don't follow the minors, really, especially for teams other than the Cubs. Was he always a good prospect, or did he just come out of nowhere?
  8. Cripes. Dude strikes out a TON though. But still, he could hit 50 this year. That's nuts.
  9. He never used to be, though. I always wanted the Cubs to trade for him at the deadline. He was one of my favorite non-Cub pitchers for a while. He was great until Dusty starting forcing him to throw 120+ pitches every start. With a lot of pitchers, injuries happen and it's hard to point to an exact "Aha!" point where it all went wrong. But not with Harang. He pitched a regularly scheduled start, came out of the bullpen and threw 4 (I think) innings a couple days later and then made his regularly scheduled start a couple of days later. His ERA before that relief appearance was sub 4.00 and going south every season. After that relief appearance, well, you get the Harang that you have now. I will now agree with IMB. Mark this on your calendars. If I was Cueto, I'd be looking to get out of Cincinnati the first chance I got.
  10. Here's Erik being optimisitc: Wells makes the 3 runs hold and we have enough to win right now.
  11. Crap. Oh well. At least there was a Fontybomb.

  13. There's something wrong when the pitcher isn't the worst hitter in the lineup.
  14. Wells helping himself out with a double.
  15. I'm shocked Koyie Hill can still stand upright after catching 24 consecutive games. That's just wrong. Yes, yes, I know no other options, etc, but Fox could have caught ONE of those games, I think.
  16. Well, he really didn't try to hard to get out of the way That's one of those rules that's never called, though. I think I can remember one time ever seeing an umpire not award a hitter first base for not getting out of the way.
  17. Nice that Soriano isn't an automatic out anymore.
  18. Sadly, very few people use two hands to catch a ball anymore. That's one thing my son will learn when he's old enough, though. You'd just think with how his year has gone so far, he'd make every effort to avoid botching routine plays. But yea, I know better now. I'd be happy if he could just remember how many outs there were. I think he caught a ball the other day to end the inning and then fired it back into the field as if the runner was going to tag. What do you prefer: him doing that to end the inning or him throwing it into the crowd with only 2 outs? True. But still. It's not that hard.
