  1. Leaving Rodney in for a 4th inning was really, really dumb. And yeah, if I were a Tigers fan I'd be pissed about the non-HBP call, but I think I'd be more pissed at Leyland.
  2. Looks like Porcello and Baker are the projected starters.
  3. Here likes the cluster-f that was the 2009 season. May it burn in hell.
  4. I'm pulling for the Tigers because I have an online friend who's a huge Tigers fan, but if the Twins win it won't bother me, either. I just want a good game.
  5. I love a good one-game playoff.
  6. Unreal. Has there ever been a series in which he didn't homer against us?
  7. Yeah, I don't know why I had it in my head that Taguchi was playing cf. No worries. Even the best make mistakes every now and then.
  8. I'm pissed about that to. There are not enough WS fans outside of Chicago that would justify letting the Sox have the last WGN telecast of the season. I wish yesterday's Cubs game was on CSN and today's on WGN. Oh well, at least there is football on today so that I can continue to ignore the WS broadcast. Was that planned, or is it because of the AL Central race?
  9. I know you must have seen one of the million posts clarifying that that was never really the proposed deal. The Cubs wanted Tejada and Bedard for Prior. The Orioles wanted Prior and Pie for Tejada. And what a crappy trade that would have been for us. Full disclosure, though, I was 100% against trading Prior at the time because, like an idiot, I thought he was the future of the franchise. So I guess I don't really have any room to talk. But still, if I could turn back the clock.....
  10. Dead people.
  11. Tejada for Prior? Just imagine if we'd have bitten on that trade several years ago.
  12. I'm going to be interested in reading the articles that will be sure to come out in the coming days and weeks as to why Chicago went from a lock to host the games to the first city eliminated. If they had been eliminated in the finals, I could understand as any of the 4 final cities could have realistically held the games. However, I don't think a single soul expected Chicago to be the first out.
  13. Which one did you play?
  14. correct, Eyre sucked and Aardsma got let go by Kenny Williams and GMJesus before he found a home in Seattle. Maybe it has to do with the extremely flukey nature bullpens are. I wanted to keep Eyre and give Howry the boot. They released the wrong guy last year.
  15. We're playing so well right now because there is no pressure. Once they're realistically and/or mathematically out of it, the Cubs can hang with just about anyone. The bigger the game, the greater the chance the Cubs crap the bed. Although it is nice to use this time to build for next year.... see who's worth keeping and what the kids have. Now all we have to do is sit through a long, cold, Cubless winter and long for that great day in April when they return.
  16. Yeah, the WC won't go away and I don't think it should. It would be kind of cool if the Cubs and Sox only played once every three years. It would make it more special. I feel like the games are already losing their significance. I think the Astros should just move from the NL Central to the AL West. I think it makes sense for everybody involved and I don't really see why the Astros would decline. I, for one, LOVE Interleague play, and don't want to see it leave. I'd love to see 15 teams per league, and a home-and-home interleague series against every team in an American League Division on a rotating yearly basis. Have interleague play all year round. Football, basketball, and hockey all do it. Why can't MLB?
  17. Driving in a circle sure as hell isn't.
  18. Ironically, those are also the odds of the Cubs winning the World Series in my lifetime.
  19. That's an oxymoron.
  20. it certainly helped them on their deep playoff run to the world series. oh wait... how many $10 million talent, $.10 head guys help teams win on average? i'll bet that number isn't very high. Talent trumps chemistry in 99 cases out of 100. As I said earlier in this thread, the 1970's A's dynasty routinely got into fistfights in the locker room, but it didn't affect the on-field product. However, in a case like Milton Bradley's, Hendry did the right thing, and I wouldn't be sad if he was traded. A guy that extreme can bring down a team in a hurry if he isn't stopped. There's a reason he's been on 7 teams in 10 seasons.
  21. We've made the playoffs 3 times, with 2 near misses. They have the best player on the planet, a better coaching staff, and a better front office. Pretty easy to see why they have had more success. That's what I mean. We've seen all this FO has to show us. Unless Ricketts turns out to be another Wilpon, it's imperative he gets better baseball people. I didn't say I was ecstatic, I said "remember when we were?" This team doesn't suck as bad as many suggest. No, but it's not as good as others suggest, either. The next 2-3 years are critical with most of our key players in their primes right now. You gotta do something with Lee, Ramirez, Z, etc now or you never will.
  22. Let's start at Adrian Gonzalez and work from there.
  23. That was mentioned somewhere. Doesn't make any sense to me. I think it was Bruce Miles who said that they wouldnt want to risk offering arb. God forbid. What would the Cubs be on the hook for, minimum, if arb was offered? No less than 80% of his current salary, right? EDIT: Read CubColtPacer's post. I didn't realize that.
