Geez, what happened to Kazmir? I remember people crucifying the Mets for trading him to Tampa for Victor Zambrano, as many thought he was going to be the franchise pitcher. He had flashes in TB an hasn't shown' much in Anaheim... injuries, or is he just not that good?

Spending money in and of itself won't win you a championship. It's how you spend the money, i.e. not giving huge contracts to players who either won't be any good by the end of it (Soriano) or bafflingly high contracts to players who just aren't all that good (Grabow, Miles).

It's because the team is horrible, nobody gives a damn, and the Cubs aren't doing anything this year. I'm just checking this thread every so often in between doing stuff for work.

I don't know anything about this guy. Is he a legit stats guy, or is he just a guy Ricketts saw and said "Hey, you know all them fancy new-fangled stats.... want a job?" It's a step in the right direction to at least acknowledge they need to keep an eye on things like that, but it would be very Cub-like just to hire the first guy they see.
