  1. While Gilbert did act out of line, do you honestly think he should be thanking LeBron after he failed to ever contact the Cavaliers, make a spectacle out of himself and not let the Cavs know his plans until five minutes before? It's not like the Cavs didn't bend over backwards for LeBron. I'm not saying LeBron isn't wrong either. I'm just saying that for all that he did for the franchise he should have had a little bit more class about it. He could have put out a generic "We are disappointed that LeBron has chosen to pursue other opportunities, and think that he could have brought a championship to Cleveland" statement, but didn't have to rip him like he did.
  2. Wow. Stay classy Dan Gilbert. LeBron brought recognition and respectability to your franchise, which had done exactly nothing before he came along, and this is the way you treat him on the way out the door. Way to show exactly how classy of a human being you are to other potential Free Agents who might have been considering playing for your team. And also, I don't understand the criticism toward LeBron not being "THE guy" in Miami. He wants to win. This gives him the best chance to do so, and he's willing to share some of the spotlight with Bosh and Wade. He obviously doesn't care about having a Jordan-esque legacy, he just wants to win titles. I can respect that.
  3. Yes that is true. 1 sweep in 16 series there. I knew the D-Backs have always given us fits, but I didn't think it was quite that bad. Cripes.
  4. thats what im talking about, give me the goods That's what she said.
  5. Myth Well I guess you learn something new every day.
  6. I don't follow basketball all that much, but it seems like if he'd go to Miami, who I understand has the cap room for him, they wouldn't have any other players to put around Wade, Bosh, and LeBron. It would be a bunch of league-minimum guys. If you have those 3 guys, though, I don't think you really need much else, but I'd think it would factor in. I'd say New York now has an edge as I'm sure he'd like to play alongside another superstar like Stoudemire. However, I'm a loyal sap so I'd be happy if he stayed in Cleveland and won multiple titles there. It seems like they'd have to put more around him, though, if he wanted to win.
  7. Really? Wrigley Field is the reason we haven't won since 1908? I find that extremely hard to believe. Even in 1984 when they had to move the last 3 games of the NLCS to San Diego because NBC wanted night games and Wrigley didn't have lights yet, the Cubs still should have won at least one of those games. J.R. makes a lot of good points about the faculties and the start times. The whole "day games and Wrigley Field is supposedly crappy" argument just seem like excuses. The real reason is because of some of the crappy teams that have been put together and the mind-bogglingly boneheaded decisions made by Cubs management over the decades, not because we play some games at 120.
  8. Joe Girardi says :hello: . With that said, I am definately in favor of taking voting away from the fans (because as a whole, fans have no clue how to vote) and removing the "every team has to be represented" clause. Fans vote I think should still factor in, as it is mainly a game for the fans. However, give fans 50% of the vote and baseball personnel (managers, coaches, players, execs) the other 50% of say. And the "each team has to be represented" rule is crap. Make sure the home fans have someone to root for, but that rule has kept out some very deserving players over the years.
  9. What kind of return do you think Silva could bring at this point? Would there be a contender desperate enough to take most of that contract off of our hands even if we don't get much for talent back in return?
  10. Contact is a big improvement. They'll start falling if he keeps hitting them hard.
  11. That would require Bud to (a) admit he was wrong, and (b) grow a sack. Neither is likely to happen anytime soon.
  12. His slider is damn near as good as Rivera's cutter, but he doesn't have control and never will. I'd be for dealing him for a can't miss prospect, not some 25 year old AA washout. There is no such thing as a "can't miss" prospect, but I do understand your point. As I said, I'm not opposed to dealing him, but we had better get the moon.
  13. I'm sure Votto will get in eventually. There are always guys who bow out of the ASG to heal some nagging injuries or whatnot.
  14. I wouldn't trade Marmol unless we got a great package in return. Marmol is the kind of player we should be building around. However, I do realize he may be one of our only tradeable players who isn't named Ted Lilly.
  15. Me too. I find it hard as a fan to hope that my team loses though. I can root for it if it's ultimately for the greater good. If sucking harder than a Hoover means we get some high draft picks that will help us for years sometime down the road, plus it gets rid of Lou and Hendry, then I'm all for it. Sucking this year might mean we reap the benefits in the not-too-distant future.
  16. I got numb to all of it sometime in May. I'm debating whether or not to go to the game on August 6th if I can.
  17. The roster and pitching part I agree with, but I don't think a former player's on-filed ability has anything to do with whether he'd be a good manager or not. And as for the "zero experience" part, that may be true, but think of the five best managers in your opinion. All of them had "zero experience" at one point, too. But as for the rest, yeah, I don't know what they expected to accomplish with that roster.
  18. When we traded him to Oakland I thought he would do at least halfway decent. He seemed like a good kid. I wish him all the best.
  19. Why fire a manager mid-season? It's not going to help anything.
  20. At this point I'm rooting for the Cubs to get the #1 overall pick come next June. Come on guys! Suck harder!
  21. What an insult. The guy's got a family to feed, probably. Honestly, though, I hope he milks the Cards for every penny he can get.
