  1. This. I dunno, DeWitt is only 24 and coming off an injury last season, right? Couldn't he develop a bit of pop (10 HR's a year or so) and be a solid starting 2B with an .800 OPS for 3 or 4 years? It's not so much that he's a bad player as he's completely redundant to Fontenot. Hasn't Fontenot generated some interest, though? Could we maybe place him on waivers and try to swing him to someone in August assuming we land DeWitt?
  2. Two months of Lilly(the best starter on the market) and a pretty decent chance at a first round & sandwich pick. Lilly is (arguably) the best starter LEFT on the market. The teams that were prepared to pay up, have already filled their needs with better guys. Now what's left are the bargain-hunters, so this should come as no surprise. The only person better than Lilly to change hands is Oswalt. It's not like 4 teams have added SP and the Cubs are left to deal Lilly to either the Pirates or the Royals. The Yankees, Mets, Tigers, Dodgers, and Twins have been linked to Lilly. Haren
  3. Seriously? Teams are balking at $4 million? That's not a great sum in this day. Especially if they make the playoffs, they'll make that up and more in postseason revenue.
  4. I don't see that. I believe Larry stays as pitching coach regardless of who the manager is. If Hendry leaves I think Maddux would be a good GM. Although I know a lot of people would be leery of putting him there without any prior front office experience. Someday, though, I think he'll be a great executive.
  5. I guess this kills any chance of Theriot going to either of those rumored locations. Baltimore gets AA pitcher Wynn Pelzer in exchange for Tejada and $1.15 million Texas got Cantu in exchange for minor league pitchers Evan Reed and Omar Poveda from FLA. It took a while, but the hot stove is finally burning.
  6. That's pretty much how Hendry rolls. Let's try and trade a player who's having his worst year after being relegated to the bullpen and now coming off a suspension. Oh, this time they forgot to publicly badmouth him first. Give it time.
  7. It only costs them 6 million to keep him next season. Shouldn't everyone not named Castro and maybe Pence be available off of that roster? Sure, in theory. But for the cost to them next year, they'd be hard pressed this offseason to sign someone who would be as productive for as cheap. Yes, they're not going to win the division next year, but they don't want to set records on futility. If the Yankees offered Montero+Joba, I'm sure they'd take it, but why would someone overpay that much? Granted I don't know much about the prospects in the 2012? draft, but I would think if I was gonna be bad I'd go for horrible bad. Granted their m.o. isn't to try and build from within, so who knows what they will do. Plus Brett Myers is a horrible, reguardless of what he does as a pitcher. I don't know if anybody knows this, but he beats his wife.
  8. Yeah, I saw that, too. What the hell, Andy?
  9. Way to go Hendry, lower his value even more! :P With how the Haren and Oswalt deals went down, it doesn't make me confident that we'll see the return we think we should get for Lilly.
  10. ESPN reporting he plans to accept, so this is a done deal once he signs the paperwork or whatever he has to do.
  11. He'll miss his Sunday start, and will be shut down for 10 days. Paging Mr. Prior, Mr. Mark Prior.....
  12. ESPN is reporting this, too. I hope Oswalt goes today just to end all speculation there, and then we can focus on Lilly. Perhaps GM's are waiting to see what kind of return Oswalt gets before they focus on Lilly?
  13. I was SO tempted to start a "Soto traded to CLE for Jhonny Peralta" thread. I actually thought about it. Part of me is disappointed that we wont have Giovanni Soto pitching and Geovany Soto catching.
  14. Tigers trade LH pitching prospect Giovanni Soto to CLE for Jhonny Peralta.
  15. So were these trades worked out and finalized pending his approval? If so, I'm just curious to know the players that would have been swapped.
  16. Cubs will score 10+ with that lineup. It's a crappy lineup for sure, but I can recall a few times in the past where we've scored a bunch of runs with the "forfeit lineup". I remember the days when Dusty would pencil Macias, Perez, Hairston and Blanco into the same lineup. Ha. Oh god, don't remind me.
  17. Cubs will score 10+ with that lineup. It's a crappy lineup for sure, but I can recall a few times in the past where we've scored a bunch of runs with the "forfeit lineup".
  18. We should all be so lucky in life as to be able to retire at age 28.
  19. Ugh, ddin't know he was so bad this year. I know he posted some pretty decent years with the Rockies. If he's another overpaid suckass, pass.
  20. I've always liked Aaron Cook. I'd be ok with this deal.
