  1. Yeah Smoltz, it's amazing how few games pitchers win when their team DOESN'T SCORE.
  2. GD Need to make Tomlin work some next inning, break through.
  3. I know a lot of the old records are incomplete, but in my quick scan of the logs, this is both the earliest and biggest pre-first pitch scoring rally in World Series history. GO CUBS!
  4. I hope it's a laugher (Cubs favor of course) and Soler homers... along with Heyward, Coghlan and Almora. Just to see the raging "who is your starting RF in game 4" debate on NSBB.
  5. This got me wondering if there is anyone around from the '45 team that they could wheel out. The answer, sadly, is no: The Tigers' Ed Mierkowicz is the only one left. :( Happier angle: We've got a World Series game at Wrigley tonight! Woo hoo! :yahoo:
  6. [tweet] [/tweet]I'd say more likely than not, even just going off sign construction. Clearly the contemporary version was made by someone practiced in the art of building and maintaining an O-Meter. You don't learn that between games 1 & 2. ETA: replies to the tweet confirm, it's
  7. I could see it more as a quasi-desparation/calculated risk/counter move in Gm 4, if they drop Gm 3. Down 2-1 needing a win, maybe anxious for more offense, their best SP on the mound so expecting less OF action, wind more favorable for a novice OFer (and forecast I'm seeing shows blowing to RF on Sat). Will be fascinating to see each sides' thinking unfold over the next couple games. Love October baseball!
  8. Not to be pedantic, but in all likelihood it's one of Napoli and Santana in any given non-DH game, not both. Possibly the same for the Cubs re Schwarber, but on paper you're taking away relatively more of their standard firepower. Apparently Santana was taking flyballs in LF the past 2 days in Cleveland they are thinking of playing him out there. Heard that also, and I would dare them to try it. Like with their starting pitching, however, they may feel they have no choice. Otherwise that lineup should be more manageable for an above-average staff. Not easy per se--they're deservedly in the WS--but more navigable. Their downside is the Cubs have some good baserunners and RH-pull power, so free bases could be there for the taking.

  10. This reminded me of something I was thinking about before Game 1. I imagined a conversation between Schwarber and La Stella when Schwarber came in to take his possible roster spot going something like the one Homer had with Darryl Strawberry: TLS: hey, you're Kyle Schwarber KS: Yes TLS: You're a left handed hitter KS: Yes TLS: I'm a left handed hitter, too KS: So... TLS: Well are you better than me? KS: Well... I haven't played all year, but yes These latest developments put all that mid-season La Stella drama into even sharper relief, don't they? I mean, you have all these teammates and management types praising Schwarber's commitment and work ethic and leadership -- and meanwhile, Tommy was pouting about spending some time in the minors. Not to re-litigate the episode while there are more important things to worry about, but wow, in retrospect the team showed remarkable restraint.
  11. A long time coming -- both in terms of history and racing the rain -- but I'll take it. Evened up, now just do it again Friday night. GO CUBS!
  12. Am I wrong here? This is a save situation, because he's got to get 4 outs with a 4 run lead. Um... no. Only innings condition for a save is the 3+ variety.
  13. OK I've heard enough. I want to see Schwarber take some BP swings against Smoltz at Wrigley.
  14. I feel like I'm stuck in an elevator that isn't moving. Let's please not stretch this out any longer.
