  1. I believe you that he was bunting. I guess memory is the first thing to go. I don't know why I would be surprised. Edmonds does that from time to time. (bunt for no reason!)
  2. Well said, Reggie. As for whether they were intentional or not, the manager has to do or say something. And I don't think Jimmy was bunting in that position if my memory serves me correct. It appeared the pitcher just could not find his control. Even if a guy is wild he better not be wild up and in after a couple of players have already been plunked. At that point the team getting hit does not care if it is intentional or not. (At least that is how I felt as a player)
  3. Good points Lance. If the vote was done today, Lee would edge out Albert. Yet, given D. Lee's slide of late I don't think he will continue to lead in all those categories. Over the last month, his SLG has dropped from .721 to .697, BA from .381 to .360, and OBP from .456 to 439. Plus you take into consideration that D. Lee only batted .249 last year after the All-Star break, he is supposedly nursing an injuried back (someone stated that previously on this thread), and he is getting less pitches to hit now. If I was a betting man and I am I would put my money on Albert. Here is the players stats for the last 30 days. http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/sortable_player_stats.jsp? Here is the players stats as of now. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/league_leaders.jsp?c_id=mlb&section1=null&statSet1=null&sortByStat=AVG&statType=1&timeFrame=1&timeSubFrame=2005&baseballScope=NL&prevPage1=1&readBoxes=true&box1=XXXX117601chn3&box2=XXXX408234floO&box3=XXXX405395sln3&compare.x=33&compare.y=8
  4. Is Lee still the MVP if he does not win the triple crown and the Cubs do not make the playoffs? I know you might think that I am a homer but Albert is coming on strong. I see him winning the MVP at this point. Earlier I would have said Lee, but then again last year at this time I would have given it to Rolen. Truffleshuffle, why do you feel that Cabrera and Jones have no chance? Jones has carried his team all season and is having a great year. Plus they will make the playoffs again because of him. Cabrera is a hitting machine and will probably win his first batting title if Lee continues to struggle.
  5. The Cards only need these three guys to come back if they are 100% healthy. The subs have done a good enough job to keep this team's lead. I really wonder if Reggie and Rolen will be able to come back healthy enough to win their positions back. Another point that concerns me is if they will be able to get back into game shape by the time the playoffs start.
  6. With D. Lee sliding a bit of late, does anyone have a different perspective on the MVP race? I still think that Cabrera and Jones have a shot at the award. But if Lee continues to slide the award will most likely go to Albert.
  7. Below average? I would have to disagree with you. Aram has really improved defensively and is average to slightly above average, IMHO. Overall, I would call ARam the best 3rd basemen in the National League this year. I would put him second to only ARod this year. His defense has been solid and he is starting to become a legitimate All Star with his bat.
  8. It seems like everyone has been talking about Lee and Albert, but there could be two other players just as valuable: Cabrera and Andruw Jones. If the Cubs do not make the playoffs and D. Lee slides at the end, it could be a very close vote. Andrew Jones appears to be willing his team to the playoffs. The one negative is his low BA, .278. Cabrera has put up good numbers and I could see him beating D. Lee out for the BA title. Then the argument begins about whether a player on a non-playoff team deserves the award assuming the Fish and Cubs do not make it. Add that AP seems to be hurt and the MVP race is going to be an interesting fight to the end. Let's all sit back enjoy a cold one and a great finish to the baseball season. This is better than the steriod race of 1998. 8)
  9. I voted for Alou and think he might be the insurance the Cardinals might be looking for in the outfield.
  10. Hawk and DJ are the worst combination for sure but McCaver is just brutal. Yet, he is not as bad as Santo or Al H. I was forced to listen to Al on Friday and he was just absolutely pathetic. With all that said, I would prefer any of those guys over Joe "I am the greatest 2nd basemen ever" Morgan.
  11. That is exactly what I was thinking. The only difference is Izzy has better "stuff."
  12. I am not saying they are going to win the Series, but I find it more impressive that they are having such a good season with so many players having subpar years and injuries. Heck, Walker and Rolen have not been healthy this year, Molina and Sanders are out, and Mulder has struggled. If (and it is a big if) Sanders, Walker, and Rolen come back to their normal form for the playoffs, I really like their chances. On a side note, JRod's performance might limit the Cardinals interest in obtaining another outfielder. And I really do not know if that is a good thing or bad thing. I cannot help but to think of Bobo Hart, but the kid has a lot more physical skills than Hart. What do you guys make of him? (serious answers please)
  13. I absolutely agree, Coach C. I have my doubts about whether he will be affective the rest of the season and post season. This could be a huge lose to the Cardinals come playoffs.
  14. IMB wrote: JRod is only batting .346.
  15. This is must have collectable for the true NSBB poster. What would you do with your Jim Edmonds Bobblehead?
  16. Just because I feel that way does not mean Walt agrees with me. He rarely listens to me. As someone else mentioned, I highly doubt he goes to an NL Central team.
  17. CubsWin wrote: Well said! A lot of people are misinterpreting what I said. I would normally like to see the Cards acquire a guy like Dunn, who wouldn't. But given the Cardinals situation, they do not need another power hitter who strikes out a lot. They have Rolen, Sanders, and Edmonds and I feel they need a contact hitter who has speed (leadoff or #2 hitter) or a really good setup man. I have heard numerous fans say how the Cards are built for a regular season because of they do not have a high profile pitching staff and have hitters who are strike out prone. And looking at last years WS, I think there is some creditability to that argument. Coupled with the cost of acquiring Dunn, I feel that it would not be a good move for the Cardinals.
  18. I could have told you that something is wrong because the Cub fans are winning. And we all know that the Cardinal fans are the most knowledgeable baseball fans. Sorry I could not resist.
  19. I have not heard too many Cardinal fans on here complain about it, and those who are complaining should be forced to watch the series over again. There are numerous reasons why the Cards lost and the most important reason was that the Red Sox were superior at that point in the season. My feeling is that the ASG should not determine the home field advantage. First of all, the best players typically do not play that big of a roll in the game. For example, Albert and D. Lee only had 5 at bats in the game. And no manager is going to risk an injury to other teams players or their own. Moreover, the voting system is clearly flawed when we are subject to watching Piazza and Beltran bat. Vance Wrote: I think I knew this. :? I would prefer bringing back the alternating system. Yet, I really do not think that the WC should get home field advantage though, because they always seem to have the momentum based on their fight to win their playoff position. This does not reward teams for playing well the whole season which should have some importance.(IMO)
  20. That is top on my wish list! Is Schmidt an upgrade over Mulder or Marquis? He has been battling injuries.
  21. I do not consider myself a Dunn detrator, but I have my doubts about whether he would be a great addition to the Cardinals given the cost of a trade. First of all, the Cards already have power guys in there lineup that strike out a lot (Reggie and Jimmy). Moreover, given that the Cardinals are looking for more post season help, I wonder how often Dunn would strike out in the playoffs. He is currently striking out every 3rd time up to bat. The pitching is far superior in the playoffs and can dominate strike out hitters.
  22. I cannot speak on behalf of all the Cardinal fans, but home field to a WC team is a joke. What is the purpose of winning more games throughout the course of the season if it does not mean anything? For example, I remember a lot of Cub fans complaining that TLR might throw games in order to hurt the Cubs chances at the WC (which was unfounded). Under the current system and the Cards large lead wouldn't it be logical for TLR to rest his older players in order to maintain their health. As long as they are assured home field advantage during the NL championship, that is all he should really care about. Thus, at the end of the season the Cards could be putting out a weak lineup against WC teams in order to maintain their health and stamina. That is not a good situation to be in and could be misconstrued as throwing games. As for last year, the Red Sox already had the momentum of winning 4 straight games against their rival. Then add to that home field advantage. The momentum was clearly on their side. NOTE: In no way do I think that the Home Field advantage cost the Cardinals the WS.
  23. I assume than that Wagner does not have a no trade clause. I think Walt will be willing to move Wainwright or Reyes for the right deal. If he thinks Wagner is the main need I could see a trade involving one of these two prospects. Likewise, I could imagine Walt working a deal with one of the pitching prospects for a good hitting outfielder to platoon and take over next year. Either way, I don't think Walt is at a point that he has to jump at the first offer because the team does not have any glaring weaknesses at this time.
  24. How did Dontrell do? I guess you were wrong too!
