  1. Good call. Got any reads on the lottery this week? btw I'm going to change my username to CubsCauseLousHeadToExplode
  2. umm....nvm Don't stop him, he's on a roll.
  3. Comment from a tradesports.com member: Backslider (in VIP Room): ******* Cubs. **** Backslider (in VIP Room): Up 5-0? We can fix that. Single, single, walk, single, double, HBP, walk, walk. Problem solved. Backslider (in VIP Room): Zambrano is an ace. Backslider (in VIP Room): 14 runs in 18 innings. Give him that fat contract.
  4. The Cubs traded as high as 93 on tradesports.com (market implied a 93% chance of winning), just before the 5th inning started. Just about the same price they traded just before ... ahh crap, never mind. :x
  5. QFT Cuban would be a net positive for baseball. I'd hate to see Reinsdorf try to spin it otherwise.
  6. Probably a sac bunt. btw, lol at Dunn's 7 dingers in 12 hits against Z. That's a McGwire-like ratio.
  7. He threw 112 pitches against Mtl in his CG shutout; 105 pitches in 6 innings against the Mets.
  8. I don't know why I felt compelled to look this up and torture myself, but at this point four years ago, as of Apr 11 2003, he was 2-0 with a CG shutout, 15 IP, 1 ER, 19K, 2BB ... ahh good times
  9. Everyone buy gas-guzzling Hummers and support Big Oil. The only way the Cubs will win the World Series is through global warming. We can do this! lol so an "inconvenient truth" could be the key to the Cubs winning this year  But seriously, I don't get the criticism for Lou here. In the proper context, I see nothing wrong with his comments. Reporters kept baiting him; maybe he should have blown off the weather question entirely but he didn't use it as an excuse either.
  10. Same here, office is 4 blks from Sears Tower - this weather sucks. They're calling for snow turning to rain all day, into the evening. No way this game doesn't get called.
  11. Ugh, that lineup has three automatic outs at the end of the batting order. It'll never happen but I really really wanna see Theriot over Izzy at SS today. Three errors in five batters is outrageous for anyone, especially an all glove no bat SS. Izzy should be sitting today. I also would swap Derosa and Murton in the batting order. Murton should be in the two hole vs lefties, no question about it. It's amazing that the Cubs have no viable platoon partner for Jones (not counting Theriot). Edit to add: yeah I agree, Theriot starts in RF ... and Ronny at SS batting in the eight hole.
  12. Bring back Van Halen's Jump 1984 reference>
  13. Thanks gents. I agree with TT, that reverse splits tend to be pitchers not hitters (the statistically significant ones that is). I agree with TT's rationale here too. I also think LH pitchers are in the unfavorable matchup more often -- more RH than LH hitters -- so they must learn to adjust more. Remlinger's early career splits showed he was much better against LH batters; it's more of a traditional LH pitcher split. Kudos to him for evolving to the point where he was actually slightly more effective against RH batters, and anti-kudos to Dusty for not recognizing this and force-fitting him into a LOOGY role. Dave Veres .. just seeing that name and all I can think about is him strolling out to the mound in Game 7
  14. I got into a discussion of lefty-righty matchups and LOOGY strategy with a Padres fan, who passed on this article to me: http://padres.scout.com/2/627917.html My question to the brain trust here: Who are some of the notable exceptions to the "RH batters tend to fare better against LH pitching and vice versa" rule? I'm also looking for pitcher exceptions, e.g. Mike Remlinger. Opinions welcome too.
  15. Fixed for Z. Exactly - I'm sure when Z said "Reds" he really meant Dunn. I love Z but this comment crossed the line. I hate giving opposing teams bulletin board material, especially at the beginning of the year. And I hate to think of the uproar on this board if, say, Roy Oswalt ever said that about the Cubs after beating us.
  16. Yes!!! Wow the crowd ... sounds like a playoff game
  17. only 22? I kept waiting for a "HOLY COW" post that never came
  18. More breaking news: the guy's breaking ball is a thing of beauty.
  19. Unless your name is Burt Reynolds.
  20. Just got on .. hey did the Cubs win? Sweet game.
  21. you might get some ideas here: http://www.geocities.com/cyrilmorong@sbcglobal.net/index.html The whole clutch hitting question has been beaten to death here, but it still seems to be a hotly contested issue for some.
  22. Yeah I thought the predictions weren't bad at all except I might switch the Astros and Brewers. I also think the Reds, Cardinals and Cubs will all be within a few games of 500 in this mediocre division. I wonder what his Clemens assumption was...
  23. It's just not the same here: http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_430911.jpg He looks happier as a Cub
