  1. The lineup is RLRLRLRL (it was the best I could do)
  2. This team needs a power bat; the risk/reward is there with Pena. He still hits LHP well, even this year: 805 OPS. I like to think Pena would have pounded Wandy last night, because I'm tired of tipping my cap to these crappy^H^H^H^H^H^Hcrafty lefties who keep baffling the Cubs. He'd be a solid platoon partner for Jones regardless of Sori's status. And I think we have to plan on Sori not coming back for any reg season games, despite the optimistic Labor Day projection. Labor Day is less than a month away for crying out loud; he might not even be able to run 3/4 speed by then.
  3. I bet the combined distance of those 4 homers was 1600-1700 feet. The guy absolutely crushed the ones I saw. One additional quick thought, and I know this is completely wishful lightning in a bottle thinking, but this reminds me a little of Gary Gaetti in '98. The Cubs picked him up off the scrap heap in mid-August (I think he was DFA'd by the Cardinals), and he proceeds to put up about a 1000 OPS for the rest of the year.
  4. A lot of cliches come to mind... raw talent, change of scenery, yada yada. Also beggars cannot be choosers. This team needs to boost its SLG somehow. Hopefully Jim is all over this.
  5. Co-sign. The adrenaline rush from the early June tirade must have finally worn off.
  6. Your avatar is awesome. Thanks, I'd been waiting to use it for some time! Pretty cool that Chewie is a southpaw. He'll always have a job on some MLB club when he's tired of driving the Millennium Falcon.
  7. That would qualify as a shot in the arm, literally and figuratively.
  8. Very nice post jjgman. I really wish Soto had been given more of a shot. The very small sample we saw from him wasn't bad at all - Soto has a cannon for an arm and sure looked like he had a clue at the plate.
  9. Seconded. His defense has been a big disappointment. While it's true that Cub pitchers often don't do a good job holding runners on first, Kendall's noodle arm only compounds the problem.
  10. MLB related videos are taken down nearly as soon as they are posted on YouTube True, but I wonder how they do that. If I posted the portion of the ESPN broadcast where Kerry came trotting in (although I was very disappointed that ESPN didn't adequately capture the crowd's reaction), but posted it with keywords like ... I dunno, say "Woodrow Wilson", obviously only you folks reading this post would know what to search for, but I wonder if it would then fly underneath the radar of the YouTube gestapo - does anyone know? Any guesses? Or should I just try it?
  11. Yeah my ears are still ringing from Barry C. Godawful. Did you read his little promo? He's absolutely correct in the bolded parts, but for all the wrong reasons.

  13. Sorry Vance I have to vote against you. Melody Alvardo is my boss so I have to vote for her. No I'm kidding you have my vote. Funny part is I think I went to school with that person. For Vance's sake I hope neither Melody nor Elinore are hot. That is unfortunately the usual deciding factor in contests like this. From today's lineup, Lindsay W belted it out pretty good.
  14. 2nd half line - .266/.360/.313 that's bad. The OBP is nice, but it's not good enough to offset the nonexistent SLG. He had a ton of playing time in June, and at several challenging positions. Lou is all about resting guys, and DeRosa should be on the list. They need him for August and September, and as a guy who hasn't hit in a week and hasn't hit much more than the occasional since in 6 weeks, there's no reason to try and fill him into more spots in the lineup. True, but he was never counted on to be one of the mashers in the lineup. His hot start SLG-wise might have spoiled some people, but the reality is that his 2007 SLG is now right in line with his career average (actually 17 points better). He simply mean-reverted. But your point about getting rest for him is well-taken; with Sori out DeRo will probably be starting somewhere every game. I hope Lou figures out that DeRo needs rest, no matter how well-conditioned an athlete he is.
  15. As long as further notice is 2 seconds later when you replace Floyd or Jones with Murton. I think the Cubs also need to start working in more off days for DeRosa. He's been brutal since June. They have him playing all over the field, and he's appeared in more games than every position player besides Soriano. There's no reason why DeRosa should be mixing into the OF mix at this point. Let him start at 2B, or at 3B when Ramirez sits. When Fontenot plays, then Mark can go to the bench. DeRo is just fine. Since July 1 his SLG has slipped a little, but his OBP and BA have actually climbed a few points. I'd hardly call that brutal. With Sori out I'm sure Lou will frequently play him in RF again, as he did in April. I just hope Murton gets equal PT w/Floyd in LF.
  16. See ya Maine. Don't let the shower door hit ya on the way in.
  17. I love how McCarver can't repeat often enough how the Cubs (Theriot) caught a break at first. Denkinger's call must still be hurting him.
  18. YES!! Loved that little safe signal by Riot
  19. Good luck Vance - you'll get my vote for sure. If you win, watch the tape of Ditka singing the stretch to see how it's properly done.
  20. Oh well, Kerry will just have to come in with 2 outs in the top of the 10th and K Delgado with the bags juiced. And then jack one out in the bottom of the 10th for the win.
  21. Time to pull out circa-1998 "We Got Wood" t-shirts out of mothballs.
  22. I believe Murton should be in the starting lineup vs every LHP, and maybe 1/3 of the starts vs RHP. I'd have no problem with Cliff starting today as long as Matt starts Sunday vs Glavine.
