  1. They already stay away in droves. I thought I just read or heard that their attendance was up this year, too.
  2. My question is this: how many players get up to the plate "looking for a walk." Sure, it happens in certain situations, but I can't think of one player who's overall approach is to hope for the walk (and not swing the bat.) you don't get to the majors if you're afraid to swing. As far as I'm concerned, Dusty's lamenting a potential problem that doesn't exist--the possibility that his players will cease swinging the bat and go up there hoping for a BB. It won't happen.
  3. They were not drafted by the Cubs. Neither was he. Not very close. Sanchez and Vizcaino debuted with the Cubs. I don't understand why having drafted the player makes a difference. If they were acquired as minor leaguers presumably they learned to fien tune their games in the Cubs' system before being deemed ready. I guess I see a difference. Drafting the player shows the scouting syster has the ability to recognize productive players and select them in the draft (as aopposed to trading for them or whatever.) It also depends on how long they spent in the system. Persponally, I don't give the Cubs system a whole lot of credit for a guy like Matt Murton, even though he's debuted with the team. I give more credit to the Red Sox for drafting and developmrnt.
  4. Even when calling for walks, he denounces walks. I give up. http://www.phog.tv/images/emoticons/burningman.gif On a not really related note, Bruce, is it more or less guaranteed that we'll see Neifi in Cubbie blue next year?

  6. What about Mordecai Brown Three-Fingered Gloves?
  7. Jon, you still have the vid of GA Hill's walk up basehit? That link is dead, too.
  8. Here are a couple whose origins I'm curious about: Soupbone Ducks on the Pond
  9. Didn't you see Duncan viciously strike Perry's fist with his face? That's grounds for a suspension in my book.
  10. Some of these go back about 20 yrs: Surprisingly, 3 catchers: Rick wilkins, Joe Girardi, Damon Berryhill Also: Derrick May, Dave Martinez, Darrin jackson Very close: Alex Arias, Dwight Smith Oops, I'm prety late with this info. I did include Alex Arias though. (1977 PA)
  11. Could someone explain VORP to me.
  12. Thanks, Vance. I guess it isn't all AOL IP's, then. Just a few important ones like Bruce Miles. :? So we're getting vance but no Bruce Miles? What a rip-off. Just kidding Vance
  13. My sentiments exactly.
  14. I will have real problems watching this team if Neifi is our SS again. That can only happen if we load up on high-quality offensive players in the OF, which won't happen. I'd much prefer gambling on Nomar/Cedeno than re-signing Perez.
  15. I really don't understand the rush to replace Dempster.
  16. in high school baseball, EVERYONE wears their socks high. except me. all the cool major leaguers had no visible socks, so i didn't either. unfortunately, i just looked dorky instead of cool. are you sure it was the socks and not the sleeveless shirt w/ no undershirt?
  17. at .255/.292/.365, it's kind of hard not to.
  18. I find nothing funnier than the fact Notre Dame got shafted out of that title. In fact, it's why i kind of like FSU.

  20. I googled funny sports pics. This came up. Anyone seen that episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/snoodmonger1/CADOuting081502_007.jpg
  21. If by "suck" you mean "that would be awesome," then I couldn't agree more.
  22. Something I'm sure you know: Kung fu is a general term for chinese martial arts. There are many different forms/styles. I took wing chun with a friend, and it was cool. I honestly can't say I know much about it, though. I do know that a friend of mine was very good at it and ended up going to a Martial arts academy in Boston in lieu of college. It was called YMAA (Yang's Martial Arts Academy), and it was very good, according to him. After stduying in it for a while, he went to the some world championship tournament but got disqualified for continually punching his opponent in the face. He and I don't talk much anymore.
  23. I once beat up a guy who did TKD. FWIW.
  24. The Yankees? How many National Championships does FSU have in Football? Two? They do have similar payrolls. I'm kidding. I've always liked FSU football.
  25. Can you imagine the state this board would be in if Dusty got canned? It would be pandemonium. It goes without saying that the boards would crash, but that would just be the start of it. Tim would get crocked and start just giving away premium memberships...Treebeard would track down ZZ Thorn and just embrace him for 7-12 minutes...DJAXX would run the bases at Pringles Park stark naked...Bruce Miles would convince Jay Marrioti to quit his job so they could start an inspirational folk band together....It would be mad. Absolutely mad.
