  1. Well, all 3 of them can't count cause Pods and Vizcaino made 2M on their own. I've seen this mentioned every time the Pods/Lee trade is brought up, but the point is what else could've been acquired. I have to believe there was no shortage of teams willing to take on Lee at that price. But, of course, it worked out. why didn't they just use the money they saved by not signing Magglio and Valentin to get those players? they also lost the salaries of Koch, Loaiza, and Schoenweis after 2004, although they did pick up Contreras' salary. make no mistake about it, Kenny had plenty of payroll flexability after 2004 without trading Lee. he was after speed, D, and the prototypical leadoff hitter. considering Pods' D, he got two of the three.
  2. yeah, that's fricken hilarious.
  3. I honestly don't know how anyone can look at that picture and make a legitimate argument that the ball was in the stands. fan interference, batter's out, Gonzo not hurrying to make a DP, batter's out. pen in, game over, on to the WS.
  4. not that he should be in the HOF, but Maz is often regarded as the best defensive second baseman in the history of the game, so at least he has that.
  5. I thought the topic was banking on career years? that's my point. I was saying that at least Hendry and Stoneman can look at the 2006 stats of the players they signed as a justification for the contracts they handed out. not that that is a good justification. Coletti doesn't even have that argument as to why he handed out that ridiculous contract to Juan Pierre. there is basically no justification for signing Pierre to that many years and that many dollars.
  6. how long would it have been before Matzualphabet was FA?
  7. so why do some Japanese players go through a bidding process and others are allowed to just sign on with a MLB team? or did the bidding on this guy just go under the radar?
  8. Padilla or trade please. not sure where you get that Meche is trending upwards other than his terrible 2005 was worse than his mediocre 2006.
  9. Even nicer to get revenge on the Stars. Hopefully this is the start of something. We play the Blues on Friday at the UC, so that's another winnable game. even nicer that it came on a giveaway by captain pretty boy.
  10. obviously many of you have no idea just how dirty Joe's uniform gets on a regular basis. gritty. tough. hustler. bow's his neck don't you know. sorry to unleash so many Hawk-isms on you in one post. early last year, North annointed Crede the award of best thirdbaseman in Chicago, and it stuck.
  11. By the end of the offseason, Jones could definitely have some value considering his contract in this market, and he had a career year too. Especially if some team gets shut out from making offensive upgrades. Unfortunately, the one GM who is just ga-ga for overvaluing player's break out 06 seasons is the one and only Jim Hendry. Bill Stoneman says hi. I don't think anyone will top the GMJ signing. Sabean & Juan Pierre You mean Colletti and Pierre. at least the others are banking on a career year. Colletti, not so much.

  13. and i think he will... becoming a Sammy Sosa in any city requires a critical sports media. in other words, not going to happen, unless management itself turns on the player and drives him out of town (ie. Templeton, Lankford, and Drew).
  14. I wonder if he will still be able to throw as hard as before? My money is on him dropping 2 to 5 MPH's off his fastball. if that's the case, then he has to be totally remade. 2-5 miles off his fastball, means many many many HRs.
  15. I was thinking Alan Page would sack Tommy Kramer 4 times.
  16. I've heard the Ray Chapman incident had alot to do with a boost in offense. after he was killed, they started getting rid of the ball everytime it got dirty. before that they would often use one ball for the entire game and it would become soft and scuffed, both of which favored the pitcher as the game went on.
  17. OMG, Hendry's bringing us to war with Iraq!
  18. Brad Fullmer, Benji Gil and Troy Glaus must be next.
  19. I would probably say the same thing but for the fastest retirement/unretirement in the history of pro sports. it all seemed rather staged to me and a big ruse to get him out of a situation he didn't want to be in.
  20. it's a nice signing for them, but three years for a 33 y.o. lifetime platoon player seems a little strange to me. I guess the money is good in this market tough.
  21. I touched on a similar point regarding the bland offense utilized against the Jets last week.
  22. Actually it's Wisconsin that's offering the money to Buffalo. hmmm. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/23/sports/ncaafootball/23college.html?ei=5088&en=6c9319bdf85298db&ex=1313985600&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&pagewanted=print Yup, that link proves Cuse's point. Buffalo is getting paid over half a million dollars by Wisconsin to let Wisconsin destroy them. or, about as much as the Cap One Bowl pays.
  23. he heads mine as well. he's not a type A or B. maybe he's shooting for a starting job for a small market team, but I can't believe he's not been snatched up by a competetive team to back up RF, LF, 1B, 3B and emergency catcher.

  25. he gets different treatment because he fits the mold of the philosophy espoused by the majority of the board and you know it. that is the only reason, period. you want to talk about production, let's talk about the steadily decreasing ability Wilkerson has shown to do the one thing he has done consistently well over the course of his career, take a walk. sure the shoulder is going to take away a chance at a walk here and there, but 132-119-103-84. that's Wilkersons IsoD over the past four years. it's just a simple fact. Soriano had leg injuries at the beginning of 2004 and 2005. I think this thread makes clear that doesn't matter. facts will be ignored, other facts made up, other facts twisted, all to suit the argument. it simply doesn't matter because Soriano hasn't drawn enough walks to satisfy some, so his injuries cannot be an excuse as to why he had two down years of OPS. don't get me wrong. I like Wilkerson and would love to see him rejuvinated and roaming center for the Cubs flanked by another OBP monster and a slugging monster with speed. I just want honest discussion and debate, and at times that is severely lacking.
