Notre Dame's defense wasn't good at all, but the game was closer than the score indicated. ND drove down the field several times on USC that many times did not result in any points. ND isn't as bad as Slick is making it out to be. I think the final score was quite indicative of how close the game was. as much of a problem as the D was, that was expected. what wasn't was the horrendous offensive line play and the drops. Brady also missed a sure TD on that first drive, over threw another easy TD on a fourth down (out of the endzone? WTF?), etc etc. sure the offense drove the ball, but once the field was shortened ND stalled time after time because USC were able to rush four and drop seven back, and still harrass Quinn all night long. ND probably isn't as bad as Slick is making them out to be, but they aren't a BCS team IMO. they are a Wake Forest upset away from having zero victories against top 25 teams, and they had a real struggle against GT.

If you knew Brady's career better you would know how rare the "Beat SC" thing was. The guy doesn't usually let people know what he's really thinking. As for the news conferences, you'd be shocked at the stupidity of some of the SB writers' questions. Trust me, he's gonna be fine. It will be very interesting to see what happens with my idle Badgers in this weeks BCS. the three teams directly in front of them all lost, so they should move up, but the two teams directly behind them won and may move past. my hope, not because I think they deserve it, more to show how stupid the ranking and BCS systems are is: Badgers move up three to 5, UCLA beats USC, Arkansas beats Florida, Rutgers beats WV and the Big Ten finishes 1,2,3 in the BCS and the BCS bowl games chock full of teams that aren't even in the top 10 of any poll or the BCS. maybe then they will realize that no amount of tinkering is going to work, they blow this whole thing up, and start over.

But Aramis's OBP is always driven by his batting average. His IsoD might have been up this year, but it's still low for a slugger like Aramis. Of the top 25 batters in OPS last year, Aramis was in the bottom 16% in IsoD. Of the top 40, he was in the bottom 18%. I like Aramis, and I want him to do well, but I tend to agree with the projections that show him in a gradual decline. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we've already seen the best we'll see from him. and by gradual decline you mean slight increase? 2006 actual - .912 2007 Zips - .914 As I've already stated, ZIPS sees him performing at about last year's level, but PECOTA projects a gradual decline from 2007 to 2010. ah, so we'll disregard the one that hurts your argument and emphasize the one that helps. why then did you not say "one projection shows him in gradual decline?" why frame it so all projections show him on the decline? will you show me where to find or send me PECOTA projections please?

strawman alert. my only point in bringing up Hawpe's OPS+ was to counter the other posters statement that Soriano has only equalled Hawpe's number once. I think my initial post expressly stated that I was not taking sides in the debate. why are you using OPS anyway? isn't OPS+ a much fairer basis of comparison considering Hawpes' past three years were spent in Colorado Springs and Denver? could it be because using a stat that equalizes the stats doesn't fit your argument very well? if your point is to project into the future, fine. nice analysis. interesting that Soriano out produced Hawpe in straight OPS on several levels and at a younger age, but whatever. that's not what the 'name of the game' is here. it is about who is the better ballplayer right now. for your answer to that question, see wilk's post.

Soriano has put up OPS+ in excess of 128 three times. last year I was Chad Tracy goofy, but his 2006 wised me up a little bit, ya know what I mean? 1) The guy has only played one really full year in the majors. 2)I'd be willing to bet Hawpe has put up OPS+ >122 5 of his 7 professional years and that Sori hasn't done that in his 10 professional years (including Japan). 1) I have no idea why you are directing this at me. I was merely pointing out that the other posted used what is at best incorrect stats to compare two players and at worst intentionally misleading stats to compare the two players. 2) you compounded the problem with misleading facts of your own. 'ten years of professional.' what is that? use an age based basis of comparison at the major league level. I have no problem with that kind of comparison, but to build up your point with a flimsy comparison like you did is ludicrous, misleading, and gets nobody anywhere. Soriano has spent 6 full seasons in the major leagues beginning at age 25. Hawpe has spent 2 full seasons in the major leagues, the first as a platoon and last year as someone who sat alot v. lefties, beginning at age 26. the comparison is what Hawpe will do over the next four years at the major league level.
