  1. or is this a case of you overvaluing other teams prospects? Floyd has been terrible the past couple years at AAA (although behind the league for his age)
  2. Yeah, if BABIP stays consistenly 40 points below what it should be, we will be quite happy with this deal. If he isn't so lucky...well we can kiss a chance at the playoffs goodbye. yes. all is riding on Ted Lilly equalling his best season. c'mon.
  3. Gibbons also got into an exchange with Shea Hillenbrand which lead to Hillenbrand's departure. perhaps that's what you were thinking of.
  4. According to Arizona Phil, teams with no room on the 40-man cannot select a player in the major league portion of the Rule 5 draft (since they are transferred directly to the 40-man roster). So no chance the Cubs will be picking up anyone for the ML roster. more of a 40 man question, but couldn't the Cubs move Prior and Rusch to the 60 day DL and temporarily open up a couple roster spots?
  5. This is sarcasm, guys. Bernie is hit and miss. Also, I think it's funny that when he is a Cardinal he is a soft tossing bum who is just lucky to have been dipped in some weird Cardinals magic, but now he is a good target for the Cubs. He doesn't deserve near the money he'll get. I still think he's a soft tossing bum and predict a precipitous dropoff. aside from Haren, you'd be hard pressed to find any pitcher the Cards have let go of in the past decade that found even equal success after leaving. amazing what happens when you no longer have those borderline pitches going your way.
  6. then we'll be seeing you next November Truffle. overreacting a little? the off season has three and a half months left, and if Hill comes anywhere near what most experts are projecting, the Cubs already have a solid number two. the season's not over by any means.
  7. Pitcher A 2001 28 starts 2002 33 starts 2003 32 starts Player B 2004 28 starts 2005 33 starts 2006 32 starts
  8. we keep hearing it, but just never see any evidence of it. I know he's coming back from injury, but that has to be considered in projecting him. I know he was jerked around last year, but he still got 25 starts and was horrendous in the bigs and mediocre at AAA.
  9. Wells, Jones, and who? Hunter? who else?
  10. and a possible blessing in disguise.
  11. Are you crazy did you not see all those posts the Wild hit. I listened online and obviously heard about it. But we had a 1-0 lead and a 2-1 lead, not to mention we had two chances in the shootout to win the game. I'll definitely take the point at a tough place to win at. We have a winnable game on Thursday against the Coyotes. Two points in that game would be appreciated :) espn's schedule says they play at Minnesota again on Sat. is that right, and if so, does it get any stupider than that?
  12. transplanting from the other thread jjgman, please read above That's how you makle a leak. shutting out all possability of a trade is the way to make a leak? essentially that is what TB is doing here because I don't think anyone would be desperate enough to trade "at least two young, frontline major-league-ready players who are three or more years from free agency" for three years of Baldelli. I think you inherently get my point though. it is not necessarily about what Hendry says when it comes to things like this. alot of times it is what others say and what the reporter decides to report. a bit of a tangent here, but I think the Cubs may have the only set of beat reporters in baseball that are hell bent on destroying the team they cover. most other teams have reporters plant stories that help their situation.
  13. now why would TB's GM go leaking this in the press. they just totally destroyed the value of Baldelli.
  14. Where was Jim Hendry quoted? If that rumor is true, and Hendry is shopping him to everyone, and it's leaking, then how much leverage can he possibly have? I think you admit his point here. It's a leak. Do you really think he's revealing to reporters that he's shopping Jones anywhere for anything? If anything, shame on other GMs for leaking negotiations to reporters and/or each other, which is not allowed. The Patterson and Sosa situations were different. The rampant speculation about replacing both lead Hendry to be able to do nothing but halfass denials about his attempts to trade the players. While it is no secret that Hendry has been floating Jones as a chip for a starter, there have been no previous indications of 'dump for anything' that would lead to something like the above being written. How this gets automatically put on Hendry is incredibly presumtuous.
  15. What’s this? Why…I think…yes, indeed, that is evidence of empathy from you IMB. Look, he made some bad decisions. Not reading or knowing the context of the discussion before commenting was a bad decision. As a relative newbie, presuming to know what I think was a bad decision. Going against his philosophy in an argument was a bad decision. Trying to show somebody up rather than have meaningful discussion was a bad decision. Coming after me when all the above is occurring is a bad decision. He got what he deserved. Surely someone who lacks empathy such as yourself can see that.
  16. it was a joke, although the irony of baiting you, a sabr guy, into arguing Dunn's clutchiness is infinitly funnier than my original post.
  17. What are you talking about? This is the shortest Dunn thread in a while. The Douchebag McGee guy hasn't even show up yet. Yeah, 9 pages ain't nuthin. Dunn's not clutch. maybe that will kick start it.
  18. As of right now, the top four seeds would be in this order: Bears, Saints, Seahawks, Cowboys. The Cowboys play the Saints Sunday, so one of those teams will take a head-to-head avantage on Sunday as well as move up a game. So with a win the Cowboys move from 3rd to 4th. Hmmm. I hope it goes Bears, Seahawks, Cowboys, Saints, Eagles, Panthers. That way, one of the teams that scare me most, Cowboys and Panthers, knock each other out, the Bears get the Saints-Eagles winner. If the Bears win that, they'll get the winner of Seahawks Cowboys/ Panthers at Soldier Field. I think that's what I hope happens. beating on the Eagles and Panthers to get to the SB would be sweet. but I have to say I would rather the Rams fluke into the final slot and Steve Smith is nowhere near Soldier Field.
  19. Put me down! I am down! why do we care about White Sox trade rumors again? Didn't mean to offend you. I'll leave you guys to the Mariners discussion! the Mariners moves have an impact on what the Cubs do. the only way this is related to the Cubs is the possible impact it may have on the availability of Zito. so I agree it's relevant, but I don't think the impact it may have on Cubs transactions is why you posted it here. I would be amazingly shocked if this happens. I'm sure Omar's had better offers for Millege.
  20. Ugh 4 / 44 for Lilly. I realize we've got to overpay to get picthing via FA, but $11MM per season for Lilly. Just wow. I don't buy that figure. Newsday is reporting a reporting, but nobody has seen this alleged report to which they refer. I'll need some confirmation from a second source before I trust Newday on this. I would not doubt pandering for one of the New York teams is going on in that quip.
  21. Jennings is overrated on this board. He is not that good of a pitcher in my book. You could probably get the same production out of Jason Marquis. Marquis is very similiar to Jennings in his style of pitching. Jennings is 28, was statistically the 7th best pitcher in the NL last year (better than Schmidt, btw), had a career year in allowing hits, hits for extra bases, walk rate, and K/BB. Marquis is not as likely to give you the same production. He's had similar years to Jennings 2006, but Jennings has never been as bad as Marquis in the other years. While I agree that Jennings certainly had a good year last year (and I would like it if the Cubs could acquire his services), he was quite bad in 2004 and 2005. Arguably just as bad as Marquis was this past year. not really. actually not even close. going by ERA+, Jennings has never been more than slightly below average. Marquis put up a 'should not be in the major leagues' level last year, and its the third season he's done so.
  22. Khabibulin is quietly having an unbelievable season. his stats are right in line with his amazing Stanley Cup season, albeit a worst GAA due to the defenses tendancy to give up 40 shots per game. only six points out of the seventh spot. although there are five teams to get over to get into that seventh spot, the Hawks have at least two games at hand on four of those five teams. tomorrow nights game is huge as they play that seventh spot team.
  23. thanks. didn't see anything else on it. sorry.
  24. granted you posted this a little while ago, but http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore;_ylt=Alp2G1CoERUfPGItnwBCqQhDubYF?gid=20061204021 I didn't see most of the first quarter, but other than the freakish drive at the end of the half, the Panthers are getting waaaay out played for most of what I have seen in this game. not sure how you dominate anything with 1 rushing first down on offense
