  1. Psychological treatment? Jimbo, you're outdoing yourself this time. We might get a rosin bag and a few bats for him.
  2. Life isn't fair.
  3. He is an invalid. The boys are running the show. He was never in NY when that team was winning in the 90's and earlier this decade. Worrying about Ricketts whereabouts is stupid. There were plenty of direct flights to NY from his whereabouts, and it was clear that he was watching the games. Ricketts is taking pictures of giraffes a world away. There is a difference.

  5. +1. Lou should fear Ricketts' reprisal at least enough to avoid making bonehead statements to the press. He should have been fired, from the top if necessary, the moment he said "I don't know what to do" in public. The ridiculous commentary and the insane lineups should not be tolerated by the Chicago Cubs, if this is indeed "YEAR ONE." Ricketts said he wanted the Cubs to be a first-rate organization. The New York Yankees are his only competition if that's the case, and the Steinbrenners sure as hell aren't taking off for the jungle while there is baseball to be played. What is baseball supposed to be about?
  6. If he's inept, then why not hold him accountable? Managers are not sacred cows. Like it or not, it seems the organization has intentions regarding Sandberg. It would be advantageous to see what we have in Trammel before making that call.
  7. Piniella is the primary target of my anger at this point. Canning Lou would be an easy, low-risk move that may make a difference, and the club would be completely justified in doing so. If it takes a meddling owner to make it happen, then so be it.
  8. It happened on Juan Pierre's team. Anything is possible.
  9. Show up. Make a statement. Fire people. I really want him to fire people.
  10. For months, all we heard was that the Ricketts regime would be different. Maybe we weren't getting a Steinbrenner, but at the least I thought we'd have a Mclane.
  11. That makes no sense at all. Sure it does. I can understand people wanting him to be around for what's specifically gone down in the last 24 hours, but it's branched off into people basically saying that they want/need to see the owner all the time over the course of the season just because it's his first one as an owner. Why? It's such a whiny desire for something that's ultimately meaningless. People might as well be baying that they want to see Ricketts at all the games because it makes them feel warm and happy in their tummies; it's a desire for empty lip service/window dressing. If people simply want him to be more pro-active in situations like this, fine, but expecting him to just "be around" all the time is ridiculous. I don't expect to see him in Pittsburgh. I would be shocked to see him in the front row in Opa Locka. I do think he should be present at two of the years' most high-profile series.
  12. Good thing, as it's IMPOSSIBLE for them to meet given his exotic jaunt. The dollar figures tied up in Z guarantee that there will be face-to-face meetings between the principals involved before something is done. This isn't like sending Stevens down, or DFAing Tracy. The offseason is a much more predictable time of year.
  13. Whatever he has, he apparently considers it inadequate as the meeting won't happen until he returns. Ricketts could take a trip in November and we wouldn't even notice. Going on safari during the two Sox series, when everything is magnified, was foolish at best.
  14. Ricketts will most certainly have to sign off on any deals involving the Cubs' eating a substantial portion of Z's salary. The longer he stays down there living out his Redford daydreams, the longer we have to wait for a resolution. http://www.filmreference.com/images/sjff_03_img1359.jpg
  15. We are down a man indefinitely. We needed a "sit-down" this morning. This whole situation is emblematic of Ricketts' lack of urgency.
