  1. It only serves to make the Red Sox' achievement in 2004 all the more impressive. I am in no way implying that the postseason atmosphere that surrounds our team is an insurmountable obstacle, but I think it's silly to dismiss it.
  2. He is the chairman of the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs do business in earnest from February through October. It is not unreasonable to expect that he would want to be present.
  3. The atmosphere at New Comiskey is in no way comparable to what has gone on at Wrigley during the playoffs since the Bartman game. I would wager that before 2004, Fenway was every bit the headcase convention Wrigley is.
  4. I like the emphasis on the ballpark, but Ricketts' decision to go sauntering around in Africa while the season burns does not inspire confidence. Next up for the Ricketts family? Maybe a sailing regatta on the Isle of Wight with Tony Hayward.
  5. Leave it to the Marlins marketing folks to disrupt what had been a successful effort to ignore any and all soccer [expletive].
  6. I hate these late starts. Time to [expletive] up the Mariners something fierce.

  8. On this homestand. I was originally going to blame the marketing department, but I hear a lot of the players wanted it. Lee for one went on the record for it last year. I think it's a shame, but it pales in comparison to what's happening to our season. I suppose they couldn't have picked a better time to do it.

  10. Today's defense is [expletive] indefensible. Put Baker out in the storm fielding ground balls.

  12. Nice of the fellas to tank this one in time to get the folks on their way before the storm arrives. Fire Lou based solely on principle.
  13. We have absolutely disintegrated in the last two innings. FIRE LOU NOW.

  15. WHY THE [expletive] WOULD YOU BAT THE GUY IF YOU'RE GONNA PULL HIM?
  16. Absolutely. Ramirez is a fabulous second banana. Lee has on occasion been a star, but he's usually just an also ran in the 1B department. The really good lineups have ARod or Manny or Pujols or Utley. If you are a huge budget team, you should have one of that type of player, plus the Aramis type. Exactly. Both guys are incredibly useful players to have, but you don't build a team around either one of them as the Cubs attempted to do. This was very much the mindset of Tribune, even in its biggest spending years - try to get by with the least expense.
