  1. ? as for the rest, I think a case can be made that overall Patterson is better than any of them right now (excluding Beltran and Edmonds). And he has not even entered his prime yet. Corey has had to learn how to play at the major league level. He was rushed to the bigs after one season of A and one season of AA ball. So what you are seeing is his growth process. Hold it against him if you will. Maybe some people have unrealistic expecatations of Patterson? I don't know. But it is getting to be patheticly ridiculous.
  2. Coery haters help me out here: What exactly do you expect from him? Aside from Beltran (who is hurt) and Edmonds (who is like a hundered) what national league CFer is better. Who would you rather have out their and why? What is the source for your unfounded hatred of him?
  3. I don't know? I hope you are correct. But I would think it would take longer to heal with surgery then without? But I aint no medical doctor neither.
  4. IIRC, Piazza had a simlar injury and didn't come back until September. I will be mildly surprised if Nomar ever wears a Cub jersey again.
  5. There are two ends to a business negotiation. Maddux is providing a service, albeit an expensive one, and the Cubs agreed to pay him to provide the service. If the Cubs don't want to pay the money then they should cut or trade him. To sit him on the bench or pull him is un-fair labor practice. A practice I might add that led to the fixing of games a long time ago. My message to the Cubs don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
  6. I agree with Rooster. Miley is in his second year and the Reds have played poorly as of late.
  7. You said it, not me
  8. This is great. I hope they let them use Alluminium bats. Sacreligious sure, but chicks and CubinNY dig the long ball. I don't want to see any 3-1 or 2-0 games.
  9. Come on. That is too harsh. I don't like Dusty managing the Cubs, but to suggest that it over the line.
  10. I wouldn't blame that on Carlos (lee). I'd blame it on Carlos (Z). If everybody else pitches Lee well why can't the Cubs?
  11. 4/29/05 Taking Wuertz out with one out in the 8th was a bad move IMO. I know everything worked out. However, the last time Dusty did that the Cubs lost due to walks and bad pitches. Not a major blunder, but still a bad move.
  12. It's not how many innings but when. Fox pitched in 3 consecutive days. The culmination was yesterday's blow out. There was absolutly no reason for him to be in there, none. I don't blame Dusty for injurying Fox, but I do question his baseball acumen. How do you pitch a guy comming off of a serious arm injury in 3 straight games? Espeically when he has been anointed as the closer de jour. If a tree falls in the forest...can we blame Dusty? Fox closed one game, he's not our closer.
  13. Thank you for the correction. Sorry I made the mistake. As I said in my post I don't blame Dusty for Fox's injury. But I do question bringing the closer in in a blow out.

  15. The best thing to happen today would be a rain out.
  16. Dierker for manager. I sit shotgun UK.
  17. JC and others argument withstanding, I agree with Dime. I don't know that he was a "fat jerk" but something obviously wasn't right when he was the Cubs property. I agree that this may have been a wake up call for him. It's a shame for the Cubs though.
  18. Right you are Vance. I'm no MD but after looking at the reply several times yesterday it looked to me like a hyper-extension. Usually that does not mean torn ligaments. MCL and ACL tears usually come fron twisting movements. However, I hyper-extension if it is bad enough could put him out for seveal months (if not the entire season). I know Hariston had a good spring but to me he doesn't have the skills of Walker. That said I hope he can ignite the offense at the top of the order and at the very least makes the line up more ballanced at the top (R,L,R,R,L).
  19. Part of that may be due to him knowing he last to last later in the game, so he's holding back early. He was showing signs of being a decent reliever last year when he knew he was only going to be in for 3 batters at most. Now he has to hold back so he can throw 100 pitches instead of 15. He may never do it, but he has a lot of similarities with the typical failed starter with good stuff who makes it as a reliever. I still can't believe they spent that much time and effort turning him into a reliever and convincing people he could be a good reliever, and then put him back in the spot he's always sucked at. The fifth starter spot could be a problem for a while. Remember Dusty let Estes stink in that role for an entire year. I also agree Dempster good be a good middle inning/set up guy. That is two in a row, goony.
  20. Why aren't you a manager or GM if you know what all the right moves are? Mr. Blue, Might I suggest that you refrain from clicking on any thread with a title such as this. It will save you some consternation and save someone else from the enivetable, "This is a message board we are aloud to criticize players, managers, GMs, and owners", reply.
  21. From the read in the tribune it sounds like Wood will be ok. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-050310cubs,1,7663269.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  22. Tim, Can you provide a link to the final standings? I want to see how bad my predictions were.
  23. Yeah, I very highly doubt it. I view it this way.... Say you stink at your job. Your co-workers know it, your boss knows it. However, HIS boss thinks you're the greatest thing to ever come along. Would you feel secure in your job? Of course you would. And you could do whatever you want because you know you wouldn't get fired by your boss, because then his boss would fire him. It's the same thing with Hendry. I'm sure he'd like to buy Baker the next plane/train/bus ticket out of town, but the Tribune, who only looks at the 88 and 89 wins and thinks "Improvement!", thinks Baker is doing a fine job, and will keep him there for at least as long as he's under contract. Erik, Where do you get your information from?
