  1. IMO, Dusty is managing himself right out of town. I don't think Hendry brought up Cedeno to sit. I could be wrong, but if Nefi and Hollandswroth continue to perform to their career numbers and Dusty does not replace them soon, he will be gone. Or at least I hope he will be gone. this is getting re-damn-diculuous.
  2. I think there must be some kind of a snafu. I think that the webmaster switched the pictures of Thome and Dunn but left the write-ups the same and switched who was interested. I don't know, Makes sense?
  3. It's really hard to give Dusty the benefit of the doubt and assume this is only a blip. I don't think I have to apologize for thinking Dusty will bench Murton and play Hollandsworth far too often. Baker has already said that Murton is going to platoon with Hollandsworth. This is for Murton's own good, says Baker, to protect him from tough RH pitchers and not damage his confidence. Seems to me we've seen this movie enough times now to know how it's going to end. I have no problem with this if, if, IF, IF Holla continues this little hitting streak he's on. But I believe he'll slump again. I know I tend to be an optimist, but I still believe that they'll platoon for the next two weeks (which will coincide with Holla's bad streak) before a deal for an everyday LF is made. See Dal that is the problem. If Hollandsworth continues hitting, great. If not the Cubs don't have two weeks to mess around with Dustyisms, like "Holly is hitting a lot of atem balls" or "boy holly is just unlucky he is really putting good wood on the ball". By the time the two weeks are up the Cubs could be out of the race. It probably won't be b/c of Hollandsworth only but...
  4. Yes, it is a tragedy worthy of Shakespear
  5. Eh, I'm not so sure... anyone who goes out and sign a Jose Macias, that's a problem, at least in my book. I'm just suprised that the ownership didn't do anything about the fact that Neifi just plainly sucks, and try to force the manager to play the young players. Oh well. *shrug* That is not ownership's problem, that is management's problem. There is a difference. Aslo, I would expect that ownership will be making some changes in management should the Cubs continue to be mired in mediocrity, given the money they have afforded management. At least I hope they will.
  6. The guy Barry should be worried about is his friend the trainer. If they put the skrews to him and he talks Barry is up on charges.
  7. That might have been a good comparison if we're talking about the April/May Holla. Bernie Williams doesn't have similar numbers over the past two weeks that Holla does. I don't know why people can't forget about Holla's horrible April and May but can't remember Holla's recent hitting/OBP. And I'm not a big Holla fan. How about Hollandsworth terrible June too. I don't give a frog's slimy ass about Hollandsworth's last two weeks. The guy doesn't deserve to be given the starting job. He has proved time and again he does not deserve to start. If that is the case why bring Murton up? Trinidad Hubbard was tearing it up in AAA before being relseased. Or how about Scott McClain? It make no sense to bring up a prospect to have a window seat, none!
  8. I don't know if this is the proper place for this but here it goes: Yesterday on Mike and the Mad Dog (local radio show) Mike Francessa and Chris Russo were talking with Joe Torre and Mike who is a huge Yankee fan was raking Torre over the coals about starting Milky Cabrera in CF over Bernie. Torre patiently listened to what Mike had to say and then he said this (paraphrasing): We didn't bring him up here to sit on the bench. Milky is 20 years old and has played everyday, he is use to playing everyday. To sit him or use him as a pinch hitter or as a platoon player wouldn't do him any good. He also talked about the adjustment of having the upper deck when judging fly balls (something I never thought of). He said it will take a period of adjustment and that Cabrera cannot get that experience in AAA where they don't have the third teir. I wonder if that may have had something to do with Dubios's defense too??? This is Bernie freaking Williams we are talking about here, not a player of Hollandsworth's tallent. Anyway, the above is why, in my opinion that Torre is one of the best managers in baseball. And why Dusty must be shown the door.
  9. You act as if the Cubs would have to approve the trade or something. the Cards have at least 2 major league ready pitchers who are argueably better than anything the Cubs have. If Dunn goes to the Cards it will be becuase the Cards provided better goods to trade. I don't see how Hendry can be faulted here.
  10. You just want to keep going around in circles? You really think Cuban is the answer to Cubs fans prayers? This fascination with activist ownership is a complete joke. The Yankees of the 90's are the exception to the rule. George ran that team into the ground for 2 decades before his never ending spending finally started to pay off. Activist owners ruin franchises. Dan Snyder comes to mind here. Jerry Jones too. Although Jones did get lucky with Jimmy Johnson and the stupid Vikings (Walker trade).
  11. neither
  12. Cuban says a lot of stuff. I'm guessing this is one of those instances where he is just spouting off. Having said that, it would be interesting to ponder. He'd be like another Steinbrenner, not that there is anything wrong with that. However, I don't think the exclusive club of billionaires and near-billionaires that currently make up the ownership of MLB would allow a guy like him to buy a team.
  13. Thanks for answering our questions. Jeff, how much do you think it hurts your dad that he is not in the Hall of Fame? And tell your dad we all love him and wish him well. CubinNY
  14. I voted no for three reasons. 1. It means Corey is really done 2. It means the Cubs are really done 3. He is not that good yet. But he may be some day.
  15. Those words were reportedly uttered by Andre Dawson after the Cubs trade Rapheal Palmerio instead of Mark Grace. Now, Palmerio is set to join Aaron, Mays, and Murry in the 3,000 hit 500 homer Club. Meanwhile, Mark grace is set to join Thom (who spells Tom with an h anyway?) Brenneman in the TV Booth. My question to you my Cub brothern (and sisteren) is was the Hawk correct?
  16. Would be interested to see what we could do with that. With Wang going on the DL could we see: Patterson and Rusch + prospect for Sheffield I doubt it because the Yankees are contending now and Rusch doesnt seem like the impact pitcher that the Yankees would be looking for. But it's worth thinking about Well wang is out so the Yankees ain't getting AJ. I think Raw discussed a three way with the Yanks and Reds that would net the Cubs Dunn. I don't remember the particulars though.
  17. According to Mike and the Mad Dog's discussion with Joe Torre Chin Ming Wang's shoulder is hurt, and it could be serious (torn labrium?). Could the Cubs help the Yankees and help themselves by dealing with the Yankees? Any trade scenarios?????
  18. great post. I got quite a laugh out of that one. Someone was walking past my office and asked what I was laughing about.
  19. I hope he is looking to stay for a salary of 2 mill dollars + incentives. I could live with that.
  20. This whole thread reminds me of the Chappelle Show episode where they had the racial draft.
  21. Boy will this open up a big can o' worms. Many New Yorkers are very jingoisticly patriotic. Those people will go ballistic. Then on the other hand and side of town (N. Manhattan, Bronx) are the Dominicans, they will love him for it. I can see many NY Yankee fans booing A-Rod. He is not that popular to begin with.
  22. Yea, cuz the Cubs are doing so well with the boy scouts currently on the roster. That said, at this stage in his career I don't know if he is that much of an upgrade over Corey. At one time though, he was more highly touted than Nomar when they were both at Ga Tech.
  23. Position player: Andre Dawson Pitcher: Lee Smith Back up: Dave Kingman
  24. I played in a 30 and over baseball league with his older brother James. I'll see what I can dig up.
  25. I like your proposal raw. I think it is fair to all parties and each team gets better. I do think the Yankees are lookting for at least a starter and perhaps a bullpen arm though. Maybe take Williams or Hill and put him on the Yankees and give the Reds Brownlie or some other type b/c prospect.
