  1. It is something that needs to be done. It would be a MAJOR move in the right direction, IMO. It would show the fans and TEAM that this organization is committed to winning. Would our farm system take a hit? Sure. But on the other hand, you need to look at the ages of the players on the Cubs starting line-up. VERY young and very good. If you can keep the core of these young guys around, and there is no reason why you cant, then your looking at 3,4 or 5 years to restock the farm. It's a no brainer for me. But the question is does Hendry have the stones to do it? My guess is no. And that is a shame. I hope he proves me wrong. I think it's a stretch to say it needs to be done. It would be nice to do, though. It is, as all trades are, a balancing act of potential progress versus loss. The Cubs aren't in a great negotiating position because everybody knows they want somebody who can fill in for Lee's absent bat, and the Marlins are under no obligation to trade Cabrera. In addition, they just got a starter and 2 prospects for Pierre--a more expensive and far inferior player--so there's a chance for an enormous hit to a farm system that is just now starting to rebuild. Florida needs a 2nd baseman. I'd think they would want Patterson in the deal. I'd give them almost whatever they want (no Z or Prior, but any group of minor leaguers)
  2. Small ball, dude. The loss of D.Lee stresses even more the imporatnce of sm. ball. So the lack of DLee in the lineup means we should intentionally make more outs? Especially with the (current) best hitter up.
  3. Although Lee has been the Cubs biggest stick, he has by no means been a one man band. IMO, BK's article quantifies how much the Cubs will miss him. As is the case a lot of the time, perception isn't always reality. Will the Cubs miss Lee? Sure. How much? Well, that depends if one wants to look at it rationally or not. The psychological aspect of the injury is huge. But that will wear off during the day to day grind of playing baseball 6 days a week. The thing that has to happen is that the Cubs have to get lucky and get more production from areas where it has been lacking. It is not impossible.
  4. I like the quote. And he's right. Now let's hope for a productive replacement. But more importantly, let us hope Aramis comes out of whatever funk he is in.
  5. Great as ever BK.
  6. :?John Blutoski Animal House
  7. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor????
  8. Ban the bunt. Put curbs on the infield grass down the first base line so players can't run out of the base paths. Make all weekend games day games Contract the Marlins and give back Willis to the Cubs. And give the Cubs Caberera, Jermiy Herredia, and Hanlley Rameriz.
  9. I think Klesko is done for a while. I can't keep up with the injuries. I had no idea Huff was hurt. Now the Cubs need Wood and Prior back more than ever.
  10. Indeed. This is like the Titanic hitting the iceburg. The one thing that couldn't happen, happened.
  11. If Lee is going on the 60 day, I'd call up Sing or Restovich. I know Sing is not exactly on fire right now, but maybe a call up will spark him. I grasping a straws here.
  12. I'd see what it would take to get Huff. But GM's won't be shedding any tears for the Cubs.
  13. No, I doubt seriously that the Cubs would ever consider having Palmerio back on the team. Are any of the guys on the team today married to any tramps? Okay, so that's a trick question. Raffy in the clubhouse would be a bad idea. Forgive me but I don't get the joke. Was he involved with a trashy woman? Ryan Sandberg's (ex)wife Cindy. Bad scene.
  14. I don't know that Neifi is great at anything except making contact at the plate. Be that as it may, being a great backup is like being the skinniest girl weighing over 300 pounds.
  15. You've gotta be kidding me. The Cubs Love them or leave them
  16. http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=69832 That ought to make the news of Lee's injury look better by comparison... Please [insert deity here] no!
  17. NO BODY HATES NEIFI NO BODY HATES NEIFI NO BODY HATES NEIFI What people are upset about is the way he has been/is used by Baker. Hitting him high in the order Giving him playing time over Cedeno (before he got hurt) last year when the Cubs were out of it. And Jim Hendry giving him ridiculous money to be a back up. Over the course of a season he has very little value, even as a late inning replacement. He is not a competent fill in for a long period of time.
  18. After watching the replay it looked like Lee's wrist was bent backwards. There could be some ligament damange. I hope not, b/c I think ligaments take longer to heal. I really hope the damange isn't severe. It looked to me like Eyre just has a boo boo. I think he will be fine.
  19. Narcissism is a helluva drug.
  20. Nola, I'll have an order of red beans and rice, a Abita Turbo Dog and an order of Beignets. Welocme!
  21. Wright had 3 errors today.
  22. I believe that Richard Hildalgo parlayed a great year into a huge contract with the Astros, but I am not sure how much. Then there was Mo Vaughn with the Mets. The Mets had a lot of bad contracts during the Phillips era.
  23. Guaranteed K now. or a pop out.
  24. This is the rare case where Niefi's ability to make contact will be of some use. If he pounds one into the ground it is a tie ball game.
