    There was a Mooney article over the weekend saying that Counsell and Suzuki were working on "communication" in spring training. Reading between the lines (not always a good thing to do) suggests that Suzuki is not too happy with his role on the team. He shouldn't be too upset with the way he's played defense out there.     The Cubs have only two players signed past 2026- Dansby and Shota. They could have used deferrals to get Bregman and still stay under the tax. Ricketts is playing the long game and getting ready to go to the mattresses during the next bargaining session. They are more concerned with that then with winning

    Never went to the park in DC, would love to go there. I love the park in Philly. Great site lines. I once saw Eric F'ng Milton almost throw a no-hitter against the Cubs there. I think Corey Patterson had the only hit that day. I absolutely hate Comerica especially compared to old Tiger's Stadium. It's everything Tiger's stadium wasn't and then some. The food is awful you feel like you are sitting a million miles away from the action, a Brutal place. The only good thing is cheap parking if you drive.

    I'd imagine the plan for Horton is to start but he won't be ready until May and will be on an innings limit. I'd be shocked if they don't hold him back.

    I think Jed has a pre-determined limit where he thinks the value of the player is not there for the money/years and he's not going to go past that. Good for him. It's going to get him another job in baseball some day. But it's not good for the Cubs. One would think they look at value in total. There are pre-arbitration and arbitration guys who they are getting plenty of value out of. They don't need to win or break even on every player. Anyway, that's my take on his behavior.

    I'm not giving Jed any points for making the Cubs division favorites. Every other team except for the Reds are about the same or worse.

    investments in their property is not altruism. the product is the Cubs, not the Thackery Hotel.

    It has to be difficult to make a team each year to try to fit into a budgeted amount of money. But this is what Jed and Co are paid to do. They don't seem to be able to do that well year after year. It's time for him to go. As much as the Ricketts family are horrible pieces of horsefeathers, they only bear part of the blame. Jed traded Bellinger away to free up money to get... beaten by every other team in contract negotiations for player after player. Their biggest target is a pitcher who can't stay healthy. I said before their motto is "trying to win with one hand tied behind our back", but maybe it's "living on a prayer".

    I'm looking forward to seeing how good he can be. I remember when he was drafted and Marquee interviewed him and he said. "I can't wait to go out and fail with the best of them". That is the perfect approach for a hitter in MLB. I think he's going to hit for average and spray the ball all over the field. I'm more than a little worried about the power, but if he becomes mostly a doubles hitter and plays above-average defense, that is pretty good. I'd love for him to become a star player, a boy can dream.

    They will have minimal payroll obligations going into the next CBA. And you can safely bet they will hard bargain for a cap. I have no idea how they will accomplish this without opening their books for fair accounting and revenue sharing with the MLBPA.

    They made a good offer given his demands. I suppose it's nice of Jed to thank Tommy Boy for allowing him to pursue great players.

    I'd rather give Shaw a long runway. I'd love Cease, but it's important to balance the need for a TOR pitcher and hope for the future. He'd cost a lot of prospects even if they could get SD to move off of Shaw. If you add the unlikelihood of resigning him it stings a little more. I don't know their plans, but, it still looks like they will play up to the next CBA and then clean the slate expecting a long work stoppage. If that is their plan, Cease makes a bit more sense.
