  1. No only the 2nd or 3rd. To me ruining is not an all or nothing thing. I like baseball in the sunshine, I like seeing the brick behind home plate, and I like seeing the ivy and nothing else. They lessen the experience by doing this type of thing.
  2. They both bat left handed. My guess is that Floyd and Murton wil share LF until Floyd goes on the down low.
  3. Zambrano in a deal for ARod would be a no-brainer to me. Zambrano helps every 5th game. ARod helps every day. But overall I'd prefer to keep Big Z. That's what Banedon thinks. CubinNY agrees. He also thinks the Cubs will resign Big Z or feel the heat of endless Maddux comparisons. Hendry almost always gets his man.
  4. I agree, this is where stats people need to leave because Carlos's emotions and the ability for them to pump up a team and fans is worth 4.8 million alone And Izturis drives in runs with his glove.Stupid stat heads. I thunk I struck a nerve??? No you didn't strike a nerve, If you weren't being sarcastic your post was pointless. Z should be payed a lot of money becuase he's a good pitcher not becuase he can fire up a crowd with his fist pump. I think the Cubs will get a deal done. Hendry hasn't put out anything to the press to lead me to believe otherwise.
  5. I agree. However, the pythagorean record is simply a standard, by that I mean that a team's pythagorean record says what they "should have" won given their run differential. Should have is the key phrase here, it's a projection and not predicitive of anything. That being said, teams that generally score more runs then they give up win more than teams that don't. Yet a team could have four aces and one tomato can pitching. For simplicity let's take out bullpens and assume every pitcher pitches 9 innings. They could have a run differntial of 4 with the aces and lose the game with tomato can pitching by 10 runs. In this case their run differential would be -6 and they could still be 4-1. This could play out for an entire season and the team would have a .750 winning %, win 121 games and have a pythagorrean record of 76-86. A better method would be looking at the Standard Deviation Score. By that I mean looking at how far from the mean (all MLB teams) the team's run scored and runs allowed were.
  6. That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Seconded. Well, maybe not the most ridiculous, but it's up there. The Indians finished in fourth place and 18 games out of first, yet they were the best team in the division. Good stuff. Based on run differential they were much better than their record indicates. Maybe not the best, but definitely better than a 4th place team. They were real unlucky. That is a convetional assumption in sabermetric circles, but not necessarily true. Over the course of 162 games luck plays very little roll in the overall outcome of a season.

  8. Just as he should have been. No he shouldn't have been. He was making fun of sammy like some dumb ass drunk fan. He's supposed to be a professional.
  9. I lov3 it when a plan comes togther :x
  10. If Hendry wants Z long term he will get him signed. Hendry has only lost one player that he went hard after (Furcal). Z is in a can't lose situation and he knows it. The Cubs have some hard choices to make.
  11. When you get no money from consessions and parking, have to pay rent in your own ballpark, and only get about 8k fans per game every dollar is important. The Marlins need to move more than any other organization in baseball. Loria is an idiot but he has good people running the team.
  12. Well: Willis for Clement and 6 fingers. Big winner: Marlins Lee for Choi. Big winner: Cubs Renting Pierre for Nolasco, Mitre, Pinto. Winner: Marlins Time to even up the score? I heard on XM that Cabrera is only asking for 7 Million. I didn't realize the Marlins were so cheap!!! I don't know what a club would have to give up to get Cabrera, but he's a great player for sure. 7 million is about half of what the entire payroll of the team was last year if I'm not mistaken.
  13. According to this, Liberty Media is getting everything... I think they are trying to get Liberty Media out of Time Warner by giving them the braves and Muscle Car Magazine. This deal will reduce the amount of Time Warner Shares Liberty owns. I don't fully understand what is going on, but it sounds like a boardroom bet was lost or something?
  14. Always good to have you come around and spin everything out of Albert's favor. Are you jealous, or just a demented prick? You would think that "The Voice of Reason" and "RationalSoxFan" would get along better than this. isn't it ironic, don't you think? http://dynimg.rte.ie/0000bebc10dr.jpg That picture looks like Jeff Samardjiza.
  15. Yes, yes he was. He also was a dick about the cork incident with Sammy. Grace is the epitomy of the know nothing, ex-jock broadcaster/color guy. And to make matters worse, he isn't even funny.
  16. How do you know this? That would be fantastic. I'm really looking forward to ST. Hopefully we'll see Gooz dominate and move into the big league rotation. To emphasize, Oneri said during the convention that Guzman's curveball is back. They gushed about him and seemed to believe the stuff he had pre-injury was returning. And yet they signed Jason Marquis for the next three years.
  17. Pretty much what we can expect for 2007?
  18. If I had full faith the Cubs would do something smart with the other 20 mil, yeah, I would too. However, I'm fairly confident that Marquis will be better this year than Park, and I'm not convinced that extra money would have been better spent, so I'm not sure... They might have gone harder after Lugo. They might have gone after JD Drew. They might have gotten into trade talks with the Braves for Jones or Seattle for Ichiro, and had money to extend either one. Heck, they might even have done NOTHING and been better off with extra leeway to make moves in the offseason. Unfortunately, you're probably right. They likely wouldn't have done any of these and we'd have paid through the nose for Weaver or Meche instead. I agree. However, they have a pretty good stable of guys in AAA. I don't have much faith in Marquis as a starter, but he could be a good long man. The price is wrong though and so are the years. Let's hope Larry really did figure out Marquis. Just one more hope to place on top of all the others.
  19. I will admit freely that I am not good at translating minor league stats into major league ones and generally shy away from it when I can rather than flaunt my ignorance. I will bow to your judgment on that. The reason I mentioned sample size is that, while he has over 500 PAs they take place over about 4 years. I wonder if he is a guy who might do well for the first 125 PAs and then drops off from there (precipitously). Your point about his minor league numbers does bode well, though. I would like to see him on the roster. I think at this point Hill is an AAA roster filler, playing out the dream. He's the new Die Hard, Troy O'Leary, Michael Restovich. I don't think many teams think of OBP as an asset for a replacement player/bench guy.
  20. Why all the hate for Bronson? Is it the corn rows? It has to be. In the three years since he has become a full time starter he's posted an ERA+ of 121, 98, and 146. His WHIP in that time is a respectable 1.2,1.3, and 1.88. His K to walk ratio is better than 2:1. He pitches @ 200 innings per year. He is a pretty good pitcher and on the right side of 30 as well.
  21. I can envision them having on draft gurus to break down the players like they do for football. I think the BBTN crew will provide inane analysis of the the picks. The baseball draft is so speculative I can't imagine how they will make this interesting to the casual fan who probably can't name more than 2 or 3 prospects for their favorite team.
  22. If Bonds is still productive in 2007 someone in MLB will pay him to play baseball in 2008. Of that I have little doubt.
  23. He's a Glendon Rusch killer. It's looking to me like this was a good trade for the Reds. Willy Mo has a lot of pregression to do.
  24. CubinNY

Too bad baseball isn't boxing. Z over sheets in a first round KO Barrett over Estrada, judges decsion Lee over Fielder (he has the reach), TKO in the 8th Weeks is faster than DeRosa, so I will give it to DeRosa on points Iztuis over Hardy, those Latin guys are scrappy, judges decision Murton KOs Mench in the fourth, then finshes off Geof for spelling his name funny in a one punch KO, The Ginger kid has some pipes Aramis wins by forefit JJ man handles Hart, TKO in the fifth Soriano out points Hall, speed kills Marquis is Krazy and goes bat crap all over Soupon in a 2nd round KO Hill and Bush fight to a draw and neither man gets hit once Prior goes UFC and gets a submission from Vargas with a devistating leg lock. Floyd was going to fight Bernie the Brewer but hurt his Acheles tendon trying to get through the ropes before the fight so that is the only win for the Brew Crew. Makes about as much sense as ranking baseball teams head to head.
  25. I saw Longoria in Montgomery a few times last year. The dude can hit, but he had a ball get through the 5 hole and made a few erratic throws to first. He was very impressive though.
