  1. I spent the better parts of late April through the end of the school year at Lake Michigan sophomore, junior, and senior year. Basically, as soon as I got a car. The only thing that kept me from getting into serious trouble was baseball games scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I use to love the double header on Tuesday and then Humpday at the beach.
  2. They're seriously going to throw Gallardo back into the rotation like that? Wow. No pressure kid. Yeah, that doesn't seem like a good idea. Or it could be a shot in the arm. He will have a fresh arm and is a damn fine pitcher.
  3. You can get that picture in a GIF or jpg on the internets.
  4. Who would you want to face in the second round? Either one. A best 3 out of 5 is a terrible crapshoot.
  5. Actually, I'd rather face the Mets in the first round of the playoffs. Cubs v Mets Phillies v. Dodgers
  6. I don't think I was too fired up about Lou, but I know I didn't want Girardi. Anyone who watched just a few Marlin games or listened to him talk shouldn't have wanted Girardi. He's a Neanderthal. Who gives a crap if he used to play for the Cubs. Same with Ryne Sandberg.
  7. It was not absolutely accurate. MLB has forced teams to play elsewhere in the past. These idiots thought it would have been perfectly fine to play 3 games after the regular season ends. They should have gotten out of there Friday, they have nobody but themselves (meaning players, coaches and owner) to blame. What Berkman said was accurate. The fact that MLB forced teams to play elsewhere in the past under similar circumstance is just more evidence of the accuracy of his statement. The extenuating circumstances of the Astros have nothing to do with what he said. Yes, they should have gotten out of Houston and taken their family with them and Yes MLB and their owner are to blame. Berkman et al. should be fuming at Drayton more than Bud. But more than that, they should be mad at themselves for their poor play. There's no crying in baseball.
  8. Berkman is just mad that the camera caught him wetting his pants and scurrying to the dugout because of the thunder. I love that he threw off his chain, too. And you didn't "play through" the storm, Lance. He's such a douche. What he said is absolutely accurate. If the Cubs were in the same position as the Astros many people who post here would be whining like a 6 year old. At the same time, a good team, a team of professionals can overcome those hardships, to an extent. Berkman and the rest of them now have a convenient excuse for why they played so poorly. If they would have won people would be talking about their moxy and pluck in, "doing it for their fans who've been through so much". Instead, they can blame their lameness on Bud and baseball. Screw them.
  9. Fielder had another error. He's literally got DH written all over him. It's in one of his tatoos.
  10. But they both speak Mexican. I had a knucklehead friend in college that thought that there were only two types of people in the entire world Americans and Mexicans.
  11. Nice. It's tough to discriminate between the concern troll and the fly-off-the-handle-when-anything-goes-bad troll.
  12. Like most people Zell wants to avoid taxes so he's trying to have his cake and screw the people (the govt.) at the same time.
  13. I don't really understand that. It seems to me that if the new owners are doing a rent-to-own agreement their initial cash outlay won't be that big. The problem is that at some point down the road (10 years?) they'll start to pay big. By that time the backloaded deals will be gone. It could hamper long term deals 5 years down the road though. I don't know, I could be really off base here.
  14. I'm sure he's talking about this offseason, none of those guys would have passed waivers. I don't understand all (or any) of the rules relating to waivers, trades, etc., so I guess I look pretty stupid asking the question, but it seemed an odd time to mention this sort of thing.
  15. If this trade happened could the Brewers use Cain in the playoffs? If not why not wait until the season is over.
  16. Somebody please lock this thread. It is up to no good.
  17. I see Hill having more use than Hoffpauir in the playoffs, especially if Blanco is somehow the only RH on the bench for pinch hitting duties. Hoffpauir would only have a place if Ward is injured, essentially. I don't think Hill will be on the roster. The Cubs love him so they brought him up for September. He won't be on any playoff roster. Edit: Samardzija is a ground ball pitcher. He gets grounders when he's going well. He's not a strikeout pitcher. Start to worry when he gives up home runs.
  18. Santo is having a coronary right now. Sorry Mater Shakes, nothing person just trying to add a little levity to the Cubs laying a gigantic Howry today.
  19. Computers should have stupid filters. [CANNOT DISPLAY ERROR:3556 EXCEEDED STUPID METER SETTING].
  20. Why is Maquis pitching in Rich Harden's body?
  21. He could try dex, but he said last night it was worse and he wasn't able to get the ball where he needed it. So I think the Brewers would have to consider whether or not he'll be effective. Plus, if you pitch him for his final 2 starts then will it be worse for the playoffs? Maybe the Crew shuts him down, hoping to somehow get into the playoffs and pitch him then. I don't think so. I think the Brewers will use him if he can pitch. They probably don't care b/c they are not likely to sign him for next year and beyond.
  22. From the mouth of babes comes wisdom.
  23. What number is Marquis, because I think he's #2 a big stinking pile of #2.
  24. I can't believe I missed this. What the hell?? What positives? Long bouts of silence when they are losing.
  25. That's what she said.
