  1. The Ricketts-owned Cubs have carried a 105+ million payroll in 12 of their 13 seasons. In 2013 when they had no intention of competing they spent 37% of their 107 million payroll on free agents that offseason(plus extended Starlin). That 105 million mark would be 40 million lower than this year's opening day payroll(which itself was 30-60 million lower than the peak seasons), and would still offer them ~35 million to upgrade the roster. Claiming the team won't have financial resources to get better as soon as this offseason is aimless cynicism. I hope you're right, but payroll expenditures were mostly before they overextended themselves buying and delveloping real estate around Wrigley. I'm thinking the new CBA is going to benefit the owners in such a way that they are further able to suppress payroll and then claim they are handcuffed by "the rules" they are handcuffing on themselves. I think the Ricketts will be more than happy trying to win with a mid-market team competing with the other mid-market teams in the NL Central.
  2. Given what you know about ownership...
  3. Game 1. Steele will probably throw 5 innings with 2 ER and take the loss. Game 2. Mills will probably throw 6 innings and 4 runs and get the win. Baseball is like that only dumber.
  4. He was last seen on Twitter hawking a grammatically incorrect shirt tacitly advocating rape.
  5. Davis gunned a guy at the plate yesterday. I wanted to go to a few of the games in Montgomery this past week, but COVID is on fire down here.
  6. Ernie Banks 1969 jersey is the only one I have. Mr Cub, and the year of my birth. I met him once, one of the genuinely nicest people in the world.
  7. Guess he wasn’t at Wrigley.
  8. Would be great for the LGBTQIA+ community but not sure how it’ll help the Cubs doh!
  9. Oh horsefeathers, Suttcliff is on. I'm listening to the game on the radio
  10. It would be kind of awesome to have an Andre Dawson-type thing happen. But in conclusion, horsefeathers the Ricketts.
  11. BTW, Brian Dopirak is now a charter boat captain in Dunedin FL. If you can't be an MLB player that is about the next coolest job to have.
  12. Tyler Colvin, Ryan Harvey, Jason DuBois, or someone with a chance? We will find out shortly.
  13. And just like that, the Cubs have tied the games with 2 outs! 4-4 in the 5th
  14. Third dong in four innings. I feel bad for him, but then again, I think he's making several million dollars.
  15. 2 HRs in the first two innings. A single run in the 3rd. Cubs down 3.
  16. I can remember a game in the Astrodome where he hit two HRs against the Cubs, I want to say one was in dead center. He was a crazy good pitcher.
  17. You probably can, but I don't want it. Walks and dongs please. Which is kinda what Theo promised, right? Lots of long battling at bats with walks and lots of pop to bring them in. I know it’s baseball wide, but the strikeouts just crushed this team. The baseball landscape has changed significantly since Theo took over. High velo relivers are all the rage and SP are not getting a thrid trip through the lineup.
  18. Javy did a Javy thing for the Mets and I almost cried.
  19. He got traded. Seriously, if Boog is gone I'd rather just promote Pat to the booth. I thought his TV broadcasts have been good. I like Beth Mowens. She and JD seem to have a good groove when she's in the booth, but I still prefer to listen to the games rather than watch them. It's a weird thing with me. I liked Len a lot and definitely watched more games when he was doing pbp, but I really love Pat and Ron. Coomer has really improved in the booth over time and they make the game much more entertaining, at least for me. Boog and JD don't have it, whatever it is.
