  1. It is pretty damn nice timing. But what can you do? Just chuckle and say to yourself "That darn Dusty." So far in the past couple of days I've seen two quotes from Dusty calling for things that the team has completely forgotten since he has become manager. He has called for fundamental play, and he has called for more walks. Next thing you know he'll be talking about reducing pitch counts on Prior and Zambrano. Maybe he's seen the err of his ways.
  2. Once the Moneyball is good? Sorry, I just don't know what that means. Can you explain?
  3. Since no one posted about this, and since the Brewers are in our division (and this is big news), I thought I'd post a post I made a week or so ago when he got hurt. Ben Sheets left in the 8th inning of tonights game against the Braves after straining his lat on a pitch. I know this doesn't hit home for many fans, but the Brewers have very quietly become one of the most fun teams to watch for me, with guys like Ricky Weeks and Sheets along with my favorite pitching coach in baseball, Mike Maddux. Sheets was easily their best player and my favorite pitcher in the whole game to watch. This injury seems alot more serious than all his other back injuries, because from what I've gathered in 5 minutes or so, the lats do come into play with shoulder movements. I think the fact that Sheets comes straight over the top makes this injury a bit more worrisome (sp?). But I should say I know nothing about anything right now. Anyone who saw it though must have automatically thought "Tommy John Surgery" with the amount of time they spent looking at the elbow. I thought it could be TJ surgery by the way his arm hung so limp, but then I remembered when I hurt my right shoulder last year that my right arm went limp too. Hope this isn't anything that'll hold Sheets back long.
  4. I'll put up with Corey ONE more year, just until I know Pie will get another full season in the minors. He needs it to work on his plate discipline. Sing will mash, him in LF with Murton in RF would be a nice cheap way to set up the OF. Then in 2007, Sing in LF, Pie in CF, and Murton in RF would give us our future OF. Sing could probably hit .260/.380/.490 next year, and that would be damn good. I'd like to see him get a shot. But I do worry about the pitching now. Remember just a couple years ago when that was something we thought we had settled for the next decade? Oh I miss 2003...
  5. .293/.453/.518 Thats what he hit in AA this year, at 21 (still young for the league). I like him alot more than Delmon Young. Great first AB no? Getting to start his career off with the highest possible batting average, slugging percentage, and OBP you can have, along with the highest RBI totals you can have by the end of your first AB. Must pretty nice, a perfect stat line basically. Even if it is only one AB, if that was me I'd take a picture of that.
  6. I remember when he was drafted the only thing that came to my mind was that we had Prior and a guy who was alot like Ben Sheets (who up to that point had not REALLY impressed beyond his raw stuff). That would have been a great 1-2. That is a pretty messed up tease if it isn't true. If he got back mid 90's velocity I think that along with Pie's year would make this annoyingly annoying Cubs season somewhat of a success to me.
  7. I think the only way we could bring any kind of stability is if there is a really big shakeup. That shakeup just needs to be done by a strong leader.
  8. They also have guys in their farm system I think they underrate, Alex Romero and Denard Span.
  9. I'm not itching to get rid of Walker, I'd just prefer someone younger. I like Walker.
  10. I'd like to sure up second base by trading for either Russ Adams or Orlando Hudson. I'd prefer Hudson, but don't mind Adams. They aren't great, but both are solid players and Hudson is one of the best defensive players in the league, and I think he's a much better hitter than he's showing. Also, trade Richard Hill. People will want to see Barry Zito in him, but he reminds me more of Eric Milton. He loves to give up that HR. Also since I think we should rebuild, I'd try to swing a few trades for prospects who look like they'll turn into something but might be underrated. Think a Denard Span or Alex Romero. Unfortunately, our farm system is pretty unimpressive. Its going to be pretty rough unless we go the Yankee way and buy everything. But I'd rather try for success we can sustain.
  11. Their upper minors SUCK. I was trying to say get young, but the only ones I want are Melky (the only upper minors prospect they have), Clippard, and Hughes. I'd take Colter Bean though.
  12. Did anyone else see the game on Extra Innings (free preview til Sunday)? That kid has the easiest 99 MPH fastball in the game. I used to give that to Beckett, but Harden isn't even trying.
  13. I'd try to get YOUNGER. Like...if we do this deal, get Cabrera and Clippard at the very least.
  14. Exactly, and the worst part is, if you read the NSBB review on the draft - only the HS guys are truly toolsy. And those guys seem to be VERY high risk.
  15. At this point in their respective careers.... Witasick >>>> Bradford The talk was that Bradford was done after being used so much in Oakland since they got him. Last year he was more hittable, gave up more HRs, and lost alot of his control, basically the three attributes that made him such a good reliever.
  16. I don't get the fetish for Kennedy, but Witasick is someone that right now is very tradeable or someone they can keep. 10+ K/9 with only 2 HRs allowed in Coors? Nice.
  17. Actually, going after Church isn't a bad idea. Not a bad idea, tore up AAA last year, and could be a damn fine hitter.
  18. One post = nonstop? Of course...most people seem to think Wilkerson is one helluva player here...
  19. Would you do Corey Patterson for Brad Wilkerson - straight up? Wilkerson gives a guy who gets on base and has power. RFK seems to deflate HRs, but he's still showing good power (28 2Bs). Could hit anywhere from 1-6 in our lineup... Bowden loves toolsy and flawed guys like CPatt. Wilkerson = a poor man's Adam Dunn, and I'd take that. CPatt does not seem to get what he needs to do to improve his game, and I have less and less hope it'll happen.
  20. Completely agreed. He still needs more seasoning, has to work on the little nuances of the game. Otherwise, he'll be the next Corey.
  21. First, thanks for doing this. Now my question... Do you think you are like any pitcher in the major leagues? If you do, who?
  22. Its not so much how these guys are doing, its the lack of a truly exciting talent. Not many guys project to start or anything in the future. Alot of the pitchers have poor control, alot of the hitters K alot and don't walk enough.
  23. think this years draft SUCKS? Beyond Pawelek, its seems to be a bunch of low upside older college guys who have never even played that well. We got two high upside lefties to start it off, but other than that I am completley unimpressed.
  24. I would love Gomes in this lineup. And if they included Wes Bankston in the trade (future RFer, since I'm not even close to sold on Harvey). Both of them can absolutely mash, and both of them are held back by orginization depth (or just underrated - Bankston).
  25. Hmm, and sticking with Johnson has been nothing but good news for the Braves. He's rewarded Bobby's trust with a 25:28 BB/K, and a .270/.395/.450 line. Why can't we have a manager like that?
