  1. Ben Sheets kicks all ass. The guy was absolutely dominant when he was healthy, and I think he's a good buy low kinda guy (Brewer fans really seem down on him). Then again, I'm biased because he is my favorite pitcher by far in the major leagues.
  2. Well...I think Griffey/ARod/RJ/Martinez and so on had a small part in it though? Piniella is a manager I hate more than I love but am pretty indifferent towards. Why I hate this move is because its telling me that the Cubs plan to stay right on the same road they are on. It's disturbing and really makes me want to hate this franchise instead of love it. We will probably sign a big name FA with alot of RBIs to a big contract to make the average fan think we care, then Hendry's fat ass will head over to the DD and hand out contracts to whoever gives him free donuts. This franchise really is in need of a strong, knowledgable, and YOUNG leader. A Paul DePodesta or someone like him (maybe a bit more personality) would be beautiful for us. Like if Grady Fuson wanted this job, there is no way he should not get it. Not over Hendry's fat, blubbering ass.
  3. .... Lets see...won with decent but not great talent (and alot of it hurt/injury prone). Works in an orginization known for preaching OBP and paitence. Not crazy guy, but has more fire than given credit for... I like Ron Washington more, but Macha is not a bad choice at manager.
  4. Wow, we needed a new pitching coach and he was a damn good one. Sucks. Still, anything is better than Rothchild no?
  5. I don't know that they have a hard time making it, rather than there are just not that many 6'10 pitchers. I look at it this way, would you rather have a 6'1 guy putting all that pressure on his arm, or a 6'10 guy? There may be a few flaws with that statement, but i'd rather him be tall than short. Isn't that like...height-ism? Well I'd rather have Oswalt and Sheets on the mound than Chris Young or someone. I'm not all that into tall pitchers (guys over 6'6). IMO 6'2-6'5 are the optimal heights, with guys at 6'1 and 6'0 being cool because I'm short for a pitcher (5'11). It's just too worrisome, for every Randy Johnson you have a million Ryan Anderson's. Price is tall, but I can deal with 6'6 better than I can sit hoping for 6'10.
  6. Brackman's talent is cool and all, but is no one worried about the fact that most 6'10 pitchers just have a hard time making it? He's extremely talented, but right now I like Price and Wieters better. After them I think Justin Jackson may help us out the most. He's supposed to be this drafts BJ Upton.
  7. I love D-Lee but wrist injuries are a big worry for any hitter. I do think the guy has monstrous value still because he's decently young, he's an amazing athlete, and he's improved as a hitter. What kind of package do you think we could get for him? The Tigers are in desperate need of a 1B in their minds and have good young pitching they can deal. Supposedly, they may be dangling Bonderman this offseason for a big bat. A D-Lee for Bonderman + prospect deal would be a coup to me. Bonderman gives us a young, improving ace. I don't want to say we could easily replace Lee, cause he's our best everyday player by far. But moving ARam to first and letting Moore show us what he's got doesn't seem like a bad idea.' Thoughts?
  8. I want to see Prior one more year. The Cubs are a franchise that is disgustingly and patethically run. There is no plan. There is no direction. Still a healthy Prior would be a step in the right direction and I'm not willing to give that up just yet. Still I bet if we traded Prior to the A's or Twins or some other smart orginization he would turn his career right around. There is no orginization in the Cubs and I hate it. The team literally has no direction, no true leadership, shitty owners, and I think all that leads to so much crap. There is no doubt in my mind if this orginization was smart we would not be saying stuff like "Prior is a wuss" or whatever. We would have the games best pitcher. Instead at age 22 he dominates, opens the Cubs window and the Cubs jump right through it. We had a GREAT foundation 3 years ago with 3 ace type pitchers all in their 20's....and we went and rode them as hard as we possibly could. For one year. When we could have had 5-10. I thought it then and I think it now. I would trade 2003 for a healthy Prior and Wood these past 3.
  9. ARod is not clutch, I don't want him. Actually if Torre was ever available I would love him as manager. He does overwork his relievers, especially the good ones, but his in game strategy is pretty solid.
  10. I REALLY like Weiters. Unless he's Mauer behind the plate, a move to first or third would be perfect for his bat. In fact, it would be perfect if he could handle third. Still, Price is a big lefty with a mid 90's fastball, a nasty slider, and he's fairly close to the big leagues. Pretty hard to turn down. It's a dilemna I like. Not a big fan with Brackman. He's a raw college pitcher who is bigger than the average pitcher. I don't like drafting pitchers over 6'6 (actually 6'5), and a college pitcher that is raw worries me alot. He's the Drew Stubbs of this group, except this group consists of two other guys just as talented. Anyone notice the size in this draft? 6'6, 6'6 and 6'10 from the top 3 college guys.
  11. What a nice situation for Gonzalez. A rotation with Scott Olsen, Anibal Sanchez, Ricky Nolasco, Josh Johnson (hopefully healthy) and Dontrelle Willis (who should be trade for prospects). Not to mention Tankersley, Resop, and a boatload of other talented arms. A lineup with Hermida, Uggla, Ramirez, Willingham, and Jacobs. A pretty decently stacked farm system. Not a bad place to land a job is it?
  12. WHITE SOX 2005 VANCE They won inspite of their small ballish ways not because of them! BS. Other teams in baseball use it. QED.
  13. Shouldn't it be up to the guy who states his thing as fact without backing it up to actually prove it? HOW is sacrafice bunting doing anything productive? HOW does it work all around baseball?
  14. I like the JD Drew idea. He's a very, very good all around player who could be an absolute monster in Wrigley. He's not quite Beltran, but he was my second choice when both were on the market.
  15. Well I'm not a fan of Franceour, but if they actually got him it would crowd their corner OF a little bit. If anything they sour on Willingham and I would love Willingham here.
  16. With the new rumour Ken Rosenthal has started about Willis for Franceour, does this mean that the Marlins have soured on Jeremy Hermida? What would you give up for Hermida (or Willingham if its him they let go) if you could pry either way?
  17. You know what I'd like better, if Girardi was still manager we might have had a small shot at Jeremy Hermida. I also think Willis is slightly overrated.
  18. I really think what the Yankees are doing is disgusting. They refuse to back up ARod, in fact most of them are willing to go after him. Good teammate or not, the majority of them (probably led by Captain Jeter) are throwing him under the bus. If I were him I'd seriously just go off on all the reporters and beg for a trade, or [expletive] it retire and then sign with someone else. No one deserves to have their co-workers, boss, and a whole CITY ripping them 24 hours a day because they THINK he can't get a "big hit." Meanwhile Jeter gets a free pass for his error in game 6 in 2003 that sealed the victory for the Marlins, and his CRAPPY play against the Red Sox in 04 because he's Jeter. Its gotten to the point where its disturbing to see someone treated like that day in and day out. What, because hes making money? He accepted what was OFFERED, no? Would you have said no to that kind of security?
  19. While I'll admit I see him needing to make adjustments next year, I am eating crow also. I was NOT impressed with this guy, but he's always had a great arm and I saw LOOGY. He's doing alot more. Hopefully he keeps it up.
  20. I actually still believe a healthy Mark Prior is our ace. Z isn't flawless, I may be nitpicking but I hate how many guys he walks (and it's been getting worse), his HR/9 rate has been climbing every year, his P/IP has gone up, and back problems in pitchers worry me (see Mark Mulder, who went back, hip, and then to shoulder in about 2 years).
  21. I wish that was luck, but they have collected ALOT of legit talent. Sanchez and Ramirez were the Red Sox top two prospects in many eyes. Nolasco was HUGELY underrated by the Cubs orginization. Not only that but guys like Willingham, Olsen, Hermida, Uggla were some highly touted prospects. Not to mention Willis and Cabrera. I'm jealous of the young talent on that team. Olsen is Scott Kazmir lite, Sanchez showed some nasty stuff today, Ramirez is one of the most exciting young SSs in the league...and so on.
  22. If Verlander is there why not Bonderman? Sorry, I've been on a Bonderman crusade lately. The guy is one of the AL's top 5 pitchers and is getting no credit for it.
  23. I find it funny someone with the screen name "wegotwood98" would bag on a Zito. That has absolutely nothing to do with why Zito is valuable beyond the fact that he eats innings...but ok? Eating innings is valuable, but 10+ million valuable? He still walks a ton of guys and is a big time flyball pitcher.
  24. It's easy...the perfect can't miss prospect would do these things... Position Player: Have good to great power (at least 20 HR potential) Have strong plate discipline (think Nick Johnson) Field his position well Have solid contact skills Pitcher: Post strong K/BB/HR rates through the minors have an above average to plus fastball have at least one non-fastball outpitch have a useable change * If they are less than 6'3 they should be built along the lines of Ben Sheets/Chad Billingsley/Jeremy Bonderman...a bit more filled out than guys like Prior. Most of those guys up there had some kind of flaw, mostly plate discipline.
