  1. sure i tried to drop him and it said i can't make any transactions until the draft is complete.
  2. Baseball America doesn't have Armando Rivero in the Cubs' Top 30, which I found rather baffling. On the plus side, here's the top 50 rankings of Cub prospects by the BA writers: Badler: Bryant 2, Russell 3, Soler 4, Schwarber 15 JJ Cooper: Bryant 1, Russell 4, Soler 13, Schwarber 28, Edwards 45 Matt Eddy: Bryant 3, Russell 4, Soler 15, Schwarber 23, Edwards 40 John Manuel: Bryant 1, Russell 3, Soler 10, Schwarber 21, Edwards 35 Seems like a pretty massive difference of opinion between BA and BP/Keith Law on Schwarber and Edwards. Kiley McDaniel has Schwarber 21 and Edwards 64.
  3. hey i forgot that i still had cliff lee on my injured list. can i just release him now? what the dilly yo.
  4. Please explain for someone who doesn't live in the Chicago area. He's about to lose the election. Actually probably not but he already got forced into a run-off on April 7th and a new poll is showing a dead heat between him and his challenger. In the end he'll probably win, but it seems to be a lot closer then most would think. [pet peeve below] both of the recent polls showed emmanuel ahead by about 4 points, so if the polling were done in a scientifically-sound manner, it's just as likely that he's ahead by 8 points than it is that the candidates are in a "dead heat." anyway, go cubs and please finish your construction soon.
  5. article about almora and dealing with his father's illness last year: http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/111028580/prospect-albert-almora-in-cubs-camp-with-clear-mind hopefully he can have a good season with full focus on baseball.
  6. i think longoria was held down for a couple of weeks to start the 2008 season. i know they held desmond jennings down longer for service time reasons as well.
  7. almost done... C Molina (238.2) 1B Goldschmidt (391.5) 2B Kipnis (292.0) 3B Longoria (435.8) 2B Gyorko (exempt) SP Darvish (exempt) SP S. Miller (exempt) SP Ryu (exempt) SP Shields (590.5) SP Teheran (exempt) Total points kept: 1948.0 also kept 8 minor leaguers
  8. also the 2016 pick becomes a 3rd rounder if the hawks make the western conference finals and a second rounder if the hawks make the stanley cup finals (both contingent on timonen playing at least 50% of the games). so go blackhawks!
  9. kimmo timonen is a really good player, assuming that he's healthy and not too rusty. very skilled offensively and solid in his own zone, although not very strong.
  10. yeah, hamilton had a high-profile relapse with a lot of embarrassing bar photos (and probably banged some chick in the bar bathroom). didn't get suspended or anything, despite his past substance abuse problems. not sure what he can be suspended for here.
  11. tabitha soren? there's a name i haven't heard in like 20 years.
  12. interesting to see so few votes for almora, given that BP had him at #4 in the cubs' system and fangraphs (written by kiley mcdaniel, who i think is pretty much universally respected here) had him at #5.
  13. That's why they respond. It's like throwing a bum a quarter. Just a regular bum. Not Da Bum. He doesn't need your quarters with all that sweet oil patch money. Here, I'll save people some trouble googling. This is the one I use on dating sites: (spoilered for size and general unaestheticness) There's something in your teeth there, dude. my recommendation to kyle is to join tinder and just swipe right on everybody. when you look like that and are a sports journalist, probably best to just cast as wide a net as possible.
  14. i have a feeling that hinske's bat speed has slowed since he gained about 100 lbs since retiring.
  15. looking at what bryant has done to minor league pitching since he was drafted makes me giddy.
  16. also to stop striking out so [expletive] much.
  17. Depends on if it has been well fed with nacho cheese sauce and thick onion gravy. I've been a lurker for a few years. Can someone point me to the origination of the "thick onion gravy" meme? viewtopic.php?p=2090310#p2090310
  18. yeah, a photo of him playing defense was kind of an odd choice.
  19. Madness. Is this based on injury concerns? i would assume that, plus maybe some lag from him being outside many top 50 rankings last offseason. in other news...
  20. FWIW, john sickels' site is doing a community top 40 list, and this is where the prospects stand: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/12/30/7467725/2015-minor-league-ball-community-prospect-list-40 1. Bryant 2. Correa 3. Buxton 4. Russell 5. Soler the dodgers' top 3 prospects are ranked 7th (seager), 10th (urias) and 15th (pederson). schwarber is 24th.
  21. bryant and russell should easily be in all top 10 lists. soler is the only one who might miss out on some top 10s.
