  1. lol about 10 minutes into the game and the dolphins are already down 21-0... if you're getting blown out by the bills and jets, that doesn't bode will for finding a win in your last 3 games
  2. Jeter's career FRAA is -129. Saying Greene is better than Jeter defensively is like saying that Ryan Theriot is better offensively than Cesar Izturis. Could you link me to something that explains FRAA? I'm really interested in Sabermetrics, and while I have a good understanding of most offensively, i'm still learning. it's just Fielding Runs Above Average. A guy with a FRAA of 0 is an average shortstop. Jeter's -129 FRAA means that as a result of his defense, the Yankees have allowed 129 more runs than if they had an average shortstop. This assumes, of course, that FRAA is a perfect stat, which it's not, but it's miles better than the more commonly used fielding statistics like errors, fielding percentage, zone rating and range factor.
  3. well his FRAA the past two years is -3, so... jack wilson adam everett john mcdonald tony pena jr. jimmy rollins j.j. hardy rafael furcal omar vizquel troy tulowitzki david eckstein derek jeter juan uribe jhonny peralta michael young orlando cabrera

  5. Because he's young, will greatly benefit from a move out of Petco (check the splits), and will probably give you a legit 25+HR's out of the SS position. He's a very good upgrade from Theriot with the potential to be a huge upgrade. Plus he might be the best defensive SS in the game. Get him out of Petco and you're looking at an .800+ OPS. i was with you until this point, but you really veered off track here Why? It's true. his career FRAA is -22. Feel free to compare that to a SS who is legitimately great at defense; say, Jack Wilson, Adam Everett, John McDonald or Tony Pena.
  6. he's under contract for $5.5M next year; if he were a free agent, he'd probably be looking at $12M as an annual salary. I knew he was under contract just thought it was for two more years. Why do you think he would get 12 mill at age 35? I agree he is more productive than guys getting paid much more, but perception seems to be different than reality in this case. averaged about 25 homers and 105 RBI the past three years, with a 120 OPS+. his average year is about equal to aaron rowand's career year last year. His numbers are pretty comparable to Jose Guillen, and he doesn't have the steroid/personal issues that Guillen has. If guys like Guillen and Rowand are in the $12M range, then you can bet that Ibanez would be as well.

  8. well he's lefthanded and not deceased, so i'm sure someone will sign him
  9. Jason Marquis' projected numbers never screamed 3 years, $21M. Same can be said for the contracts of probably half the Cubs. But damned if it's gonna stop Hendry.
  10. i can't believe brock berlin is starting an nfl game. that guy sucked in college.
  11. i'd say that terrance newman is about 10x the idiot that kitna is, going out and saying that he'd happily take a cheap shot at kitna and pay the fine.

  13. i still maintain that might be the most idiotic big-money contract ever handed out
  14. of course the cubs could afford a payroll that high. They play in the third most populous city in the country, sell out more or less every home game at some of the highest ticket prices in the majors, and have a national following with the help of a significant cable network available in many areas. The fact that the Cubs willing to swell their payroll by almost $25M this year pretty much shows how much in profits the Trib has been raking in over the past several years. Incompetent management is the biggest reason that the Cubs suck, but their spending limit is much higher than they've led people to believe.
  15. we already have andre ethier... his name is matt murton
  16. the colon deal was huge, and was a complete disaster for the expos/nationals. travis hafner being stolen for nothing was pretty sweet. and san diego stole Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez and Terrmel Sledge next to nothing (Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka).
  17. Is Aaron Rowand really a sure thing in your opinion? I'd guess he's a sure thing to produce slightly better results than Kaz Matsui then yes he's a sure thing. wait we're still talking about the guy who had a .329 OBP and 93 OPS+ in 2005, and .321 OBP and 86 OPS+ in 2006, right?
  18. i wouldn't either, but the giants are going to be BAD the next couple of years at least
  19. I tell you what though, if they end up with Figgins in CF, Roberts at 2B, and Fukudome in RF, I can live with that. Throw in a Pie and Prior for Greene trade (and blow the budget in the process) and you've got a very potent, if not excellent, lineup next year. I have no idea how they'd have the budget to support that, but it would be an outstanding lineup. Figgins Roberts Lee Ramirez Kosuke Soriano Greene Soto well maybe they'd save money if jim remembered he has a competent second basemen already on his roster. figgins derosa lee ramirez soriano fukudome greene soto is just as potent. he'd REALLY save a lot of money if he remembered that he had a competent 2B and RF on the team. Stick Kosuke in CF and trade for Tejada, call it an offseason.
  20. meh, whatever.... he's gonna be 36 next year, he was pretty hittable in 2007, and he's making about $3.5M in 2008. Not a big deal.
  21. it's too big to pick up and you're not allowed to use silverware if you're doing the pub challenge (finish it in an hour), so you just reach in and grab handfuls of whatever, and stuff them in your mouth. it's 2 lbs of beef plus another 1.5 lbs of bread and fixins... i ate about 70% of it in the hour. Where is that Truffle? Some friends and I went to take on a 15 pound burger similar to that a month ago or so. It was awesome and I didn't eat again for a day and a half. well there's only one place around that has a 15 lb burger, that would be denny's beer barrel pub
  22. I find it funny that this is the case now, when I remember the backlash about DeRosa's contract when he first signed it. i recall that a small handful of wise posters thought it was a pretty good move :-"
  23. derosa was good last year and has a team-friendly contract... is anyone else completely befuddled by the cubs' desperation to find another second baseman?
