  1. haven't really thought about it. i just put money in the bank and then use it for whatever i need it for. i suppose since i'm dropping 2/3 of my savings on a house that i might not have that attitude much longer.
  2. if the calls go nearly 2 to 1 against us like they did in the montreal series, there's no way we beat pittsburgh. we beat montreal because biron played very well and their goalies were pretty lousy. there are no signs that fleury will crack like price did. i hope it is a good series (likely) with good officiating (highly unlikely). i'm much less optimistic about our chances than i was the year that we lost to tampa in 7 games in the e.c. finals. and i don't even want to get into the 2000 e.c. finals, that still burns as bad as the cubs' 2003 flame out.
  3. so that commitment to "pie's our center fielder" lasted what, all of 30 or 40 plate appearances? gee, wonder why the cubs struggle so badly to develop any offensive prospects.
  4. Ouch. Just ouch. my order of preference was wieters then porcello then parker. call it a bias, but i don't want the cubs ever drafting high school hitters in the first round unless it's a player of justin upton/a-rod caliber falling into the end of the first round.
  5. sorry, brain fart. i was jumping ahead to the trade pie proposition. i was all for the johnson signing at the time, but i assumed that we'd actually use him properly, which was clearly a faulty assumption given the way that our manager handled the crowded outfield last season.
  6. KZone had them as strikes. this just in, k zone is wrong a lot
  7. i remember there was a crappy made for tv movie where st louis got wiped out by a tornado and the arch fell over. why can't that happen in real life? :(
  8. This year vs RHP: .268/.317/.286 (.603) Last year vs RHP: .202/.275/.237 (.513) Well-run teams don't trade for a decent platoon option who has been downright bad against RHP, panic when their promising young CF plays poorly for a couple of weeks, and then start playing the offensive black hole almost every day. trade pie for someone who will be an adequate starting CF. Or fire the manager and hire someone who will actually handle the situation propertly. either way works, but the current solution is not working.
  9. what memo? sorry, joe morgan sent out the verbal memo in the first inning.
  10. in related news, reed johnson's ops is .677 and is .603 against RHP. lou piniella is a bad manager.
  11. a lot of joe's crew is "under the weather." see what happens when you befriend joe morgan?
  12. soto and fontenoto apparently didn't get the memo about bottom of the order guys not needing to get on base.
  13. "TLR isn't going to wait around, he's going to make something happen" make something happen = run into outs
  14. gallagher is pitching and cedeno is in the game too. i think most of NSBB has a semi from this turn of events.
  15. You couldn't possibly be more wrong. and you couldn't possibly be more wrong about sending home a runner home with no outs, the middle of the lineup coming up, and down three runs. The LF was conceiving the run. It was an easy call. Luckily Fukudome at least got one run in, but that could have easily turned in to no runs. When you are down three you need to get every run you can. true. you need three runs, in fact!
  16. In your delusional mind maybe. DeRosa has been sucking lately. in what like the last three games? the game before that he got on base on each of his five plate appearances.
  17. yeah a guy who is getting on base nearly 40% of the time is pretty much an auto out. p.s., derosa hits very very well against LHP
  18. You couldn't possibly be more wrong. and you couldn't possibly be more wrong about sending home a runner home with no outs, the middle of the lineup coming up, and down three runs.
  19. That last ab was a good sign though. I like seeing him hit it hard through the middle like that. agreed. everyone is grumpy at him for getting down 0-2 every AB, but from what i've seen the last two days, a lot of the problem has been that he's missing first pitch and second pitch strikes, not that he's just hacking at complete garbage. the garbage hacks have generally been coming when he's trying to protect with two strikes.
  20. a lot of soriano's ABs he has been behind 0-2, but most of the pitches have been strikes. if that's how they're approaching him he has to swing obviously, but he has to start hitting those early in the count pitches so that they can't throw him the 0-2 junkball that he'll either strike out on or roll over and ground out to third.
  21. I agree. I think Aramis would've gotten both of those balls. At least knocked them down. cedeno would've turned both into triple plays.
