he's been one of the better and more consistent closers in baseball the last few years... i'd think he's earned the right to work out of this funk. he's 35 years old though; it's possible this is the beginning of a sharp decline.

yeah i am really hoping that malkin wants an ovechkin-type contract and the pens decide they can't afford both him and crosby. i don't like the two of them being on the same team. fleury is an RFA this offseason and malone, hossa, ruutu and orpik are all UFA. the pens are going to have a salary crunch that i do not envy. I think the Pens will pay Malkin and Fleury. The rest are probably gone. oh yeah hossa is basically a rental, they can't keep him after this season. but it'll be tough to pay malkin and crosby close to $20M per year and then tack on a probable $6-7M for fleury, and you're halfway to the cap. i guess it really depends on how much the cap grows in the coming years. but the pens have a really solid team around their two stars, which will be hard to do in the coming years.

yeah that is the jaromir jagr style of penalty killing, hang out at center ice and leave your team 2 men shorthanded. i guess it works when the opposing team pisses away a 4 on 2 in the offensive zone. yeah your boys handled that terribly. geno's finally figured out that since he sucks on breakaways, the slapper is the way to go. oh, and did you know that rj is originally from pittsburgh and grew up a pens fan? hadn't heard that before. yea might've heard that once or twice. i'm not really sure why he is booed by folks in pittsburgh though; it's not like he spurned the pens to sign with the flyers. shame that we blew that chance down the offensive end; richards made a wonderful hit on malkin and that should've given us momentum. instead someone screwed up the odd man chance and give one of the three best offensive players in the world all day on a breakaway. i'd be more upset if we weren't missing two of our five best players, and if i'd even expected the flyers to be here. i didn't see much way we could beat the pens unless biron played totally out of his mind. the future is bright though; we've got a lot of good young players and a guy who is leading the QMJHL by 20 points in the playoffs. plus the guy we picked second last draft. don't think this is the year, though.

amazing what can happen when you hand a rookie the starting job out of spring training and actually leave him there Well, Soto's been destroying the ball ever since he came up, it's not like there was really any choice. yeah if you are a cub prospect, you'd better produce in your first two weeks or you're screwed.

Better suited to pitcher than catcher. I'm never going to look at a scout the same way ever again. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I wonder how those scouting reports would look for women's softball players? :lol: Speaking of that, a buddy of mine is meeting with Jennie Finch as we speak. Now what could "meeting" be a euphamism for? probably nothing sexual, unless that buddy is casey daigle

i always thought ludwick deserved more of a chance than he got - seems kinda like matt murton to me as a corner outfielder. obviously less patient but with more power, so i mean it in terms of the productivity that you get from him. he's an adequate starting corner outfielder on an average or below-average team, and a good fourth outfielder on a team that's supposed to contend for a world series. His PECOTA projection for this year was .256/.331/.475, for an EqA of .274. That being said, his EqA is currently more than 100 points ahead of his PECOTA projection, so this is getting ridiculous.
