  1. is it possible that charcer burks is a thing?

  3. cap anson is actually #1 in bWAR among cub players, but he was a miserable racist and hardly anybody remembers who he is, so i can see why they'd leave him off the list. top 10 in bWAR among cub players: 1. cap anson: 84 in 22 years (3.82 per season) 2. ron santo: 72 in 14 years (5.14 per season) 3. ryne sandberg: 67 in 14.5 years (4.62 per season) 4. ernie banks: 67 in basically 18 years worth of games (3.72 per season) 5. billy williams: 62 in 14 years worth of games (4.43 per season) 6. sammy sosa: 58 in 12.5 years (4.64 per season) 7. fergie jenkins: 55 in 10 years (5.50 per season) 8. stan hack: 52 in 14 years worth of games (3.71 per season) 9. gabby hartnett: 52 in 16 years worth of games (3.25 per season) 10. rick reuschel (!!): 49 in 10.5 years worth of games (4.67 per season) rest of the top 20: 11. clark griffith 12. mordecai brown: 45 in 9.5 years worth of games (4.74 per season) 13. frank chance 14. joe tinker 15. carlos zambrano 16. mark grace 17. pete alexander 18. hippo vaughn 19. billy herman 20. johnny evers anyway, our list seems kind of lame when you consider that the yankees have a top 4 of ruth, gehrig, mantle and dimaggio, or the giants (mays, bonds, ott, christy mathewson), or the red sox with ted williams, yaz, clemens (hilariously omitted from the red sox voting options) and boggs (also omitted inexplicably). then again, there are teams which haven't been around long and have some pretty funny options on their lists: rays: carlos pena (played all of four seasons for them), bj upton, scott kazmir padres: nate colbert marlins: luis castillo, jeff conine, gary sheffield (played four seasons worth of games there), charles johnson brewers: jim gantner, gorman thomas
  4. i voted never and so far i am looking good.
  5. i could go for some sweet and sour pork right now. along with some curry puffs, if we can introduce some southeast asian cuisine to the discussion. and how good is san choy bow? mmm good stuff.
  6. not sure if i'd prefer the cards to win in this half inning or to win in extra innings.
  7. matt adams looks like this and he's 26. by the time he's 36 he will be morbidly obese.
  8. Yep. If there are stats that say the Cubs aren't being patient enough, sure, but I'm pretty sure their approach has been fine, and it doesn't explain how worse teams are hitting for more power their approach has been fine, but they have the worst contact percentage on pitches inside the zone, and worst contact percentage on pitches outside the zone, and their swinging strike percentage is highest in baseball. they swing and miss a lot - which isn't surprising - but the lack of power thus far is surprising.
  9. meanwhile "ball one" to castro was well within the strike zone.
  10. much like a lot of the cardinals' players, i can't figure out why lance lynn is so good.
  11. Please hit a [expletive] home run.
  12. Was kind of hoping that Wood could make this lead stand up for more than an inning.
  13. i don't know how high gleyber will end up on prospect lists if he hits well the rest of this year. on the one hand, it's crazy impressive for any 18 year old to post good numbers in short season ball. but i think he's regarded as a really polished and smart player without a huge ceiling. kind of like castro, i guess.
  14. i think he should've stuck with baseball. his line in rookie ball with the red sox: 0-39, 8 walks, 37 strikeouts, .000/.170/.000 there haven't been many times when i felt like i could do better than a professional athlete, but i really think that if i had 39 at bats i could put the ball in play more than twice.
  15. Looks like we officially found the fastest gun in the minor leagues. like two posts earlier it says that jonathan martinez was sitting 88-90 and touched 91.
  16. kang against cubs: 6-17, 6 rbi kang against not cubs: 1-11, 0 rbi
  17. does kang actually have any hits against teams other than the cubs?
  18. that bold prediction in the 2nd inning that the game was over in favor of the cubs appears to have been a poor one.
  19. i'm laughing at the idea of having clark the cub as part of your wedding reception.
  20. i do enjoy how the crowd erupts before the official call is even made. you get to rub the ump's face in it twice for being wrong.
  21. suddenly starling marte developed a batting eye in the last 24 hours.
