  1. man after 2003 i thought vernon wells was gonna be amazing... so much for that. he's good but not what i'd expected.
  2. apparently inside corner is not a good place to pitch alex rios
  3. got a pretty good one to hit there.... oh well, i'll take a 33 pitch inning, even if nothing came of it.
  4. Had the 6th pick three years ago and selected Ricky Romero. Tulo might have been a better choice. i'm pretty sure there were a lot of better choices than ricky romero. these are their records since 1996: 2008 AL East 34-34 (.500) 4 2007 AL East 83-79 (.512) 3 2006 AL East 87-75 (.537) 2 2005 AL East 80-82 (.494) 3 2004 AL East 67-94 (.416) 5 2003 AL East 86-76 (.531) 3 2002 AL East 78-84 (.481) 3 2001 AL East 80-82 (.494) 3 2000 AL East 83-79 (.512) 3 1999 AL East 84-78 (.519) 3 1998 AL East 88-74 (.543) 3 1997 AL East 76-86 (.469) 5 1996 AL East 74-88 (.457) 4 aside from being terrible in 2004, they've been remarkably average.
  5. the blue jays seems like they're always around .500... not good enough to win the division or make the playoffs; not bad enough to get high draft picks and rebuild
  6. yes, ozzie smith is the best-fielding shortstop of all time, by a pretty significant margin, which combined with respectable offense makes him a no-brainer for coopertown.
  7. another fun fact - carlos zambrano has a higher offensive vorp than the entire rosters of both the royals and nationals.
  8. another fun fact - carlos zambrano has a higher offensive vorp than the entire rosters of both the royals and nationals.
  9. the cubs have used 18 pitchers, and 2 have a negative VORP - pignatiello (-0.6) and hart (-3.9). Texas has used 23 pitchers, and 12 have a negative VORP. basically, the average texas pitcher has pitched slightly worse than carmen pignatiello this year.
  10. #2 & 3 are probably Rangers too texas has a 141.6 offensive VORP and a -18.1 pitching VORP... the first number is the best in baseball, and the second number is the worst in baseball. this is pretty much like every texas team for the past 10 years. btw the next-worst team in pitching VORP is the mariners, at +22.7. texas' pitching has really been unspeakably bad this year, though to be fair, their defense is also a horror show.
  11. the cubs are basically right around 90% in all three of the projections... that is good.
  12. the fact that ryan ludwick might be the most deserving outfielder fills me with unspeakable rage.
  13. oh, lsu fans... http://cache.deadspin.com/assets/images/deadspin/2008/06/lsu-fans.jpg :x
  14. actually, minute maid/enron is a neutral park as far as offense. everyone thinks it's a hitter's park because of the crawford boxes, but CF and the power alleys are very deep. But how many balls hit to deep CF there get misplayed because of that stupid hill? very few. plus it's 435 to dead center, so any ball that reaches the hill - whether it's caught or not - is probably a home run in most other parks in baseball.
  15. i believe that kerry's numbers this year could be described as "sparkling"

  17. hahahaha that second story is great
  18. lou was lucky that edmonds dumped one in the basket, because this game was horribly mismanaged from the 7th inning on.
  19. marmol seriously has more command of his slider than his fastball... so weird.
  20. you said weak; that was not close to being a "weak" ground ball
  21. damn, patterson and fukudome both hit the ball hard that inning and came up empty.
