  1. sweet, i have vaulted up to a tie for 12th place
  2. i'm curious about what the sixers are gonna do down the road. they haven't signed iguodala to a long-term deal yet, and turned down a $57M offer last year - a decision which was pretty questionable. thaddeus young showed a lot for a 19 year old last season, but he profiles as a small forward. speights, if he pans out, will be a true power forward, and dalembert is the center - albeit a rather soft center on the offensive end. iguodala cannot play the 2; he just isn't a good enough shooter. not many teams have cap space this offseason, but the FA class is pretty weak. the biggest need is a 2-guard, but who is out there? i could also see them bringing in a power forward. now that billy king is gone (good riddance to signings like kenny thomas and greg buckner), i can see myself getting somewhat interested in the sixers again.
  3. hey, iowa isn't playing albuquerque!!!
  4. seems like an extremely un-beane-like move, dropping that sort of money on a 16 year old. the track record of caribbean bonus babies has not been especially good. but, i guess this tells us that they regard him extremely highly. the cubs haven't really been big players in the caribbean/central america region, at least as far as bonuses go. i'd like to see that change; the cubs should be among the top spenders not only at the big league level but also in the draft and international free agency.
  5. Best mascot in college football. And this is coming from a hardcore Tennessee fan. Colorado's buffalo, Texas' bull, Otto the orange and, obviously, Smokey are also favorites of mine - but Uga is simply awesome. i would like to see ralphie and bevo fight to the death sometime... that would be awesome.
  6. i'm using the same clubs i used in highs school, meaning they're at least 15 years old and probably close to 20. they all have their original grips on them, which isn't good. but golf clubs are expensive and usually when i hit a lousy shot it's my own fault and not the fault of my clubs.
  7. he should learn to play his current position adequately
  8. R.I.P., Uga VI http://www.mostlymuppet.com/images/uga_vs_aubie.gif (note, this is Uga V, but the incident is hilarious)
  9. what i don't get is why he was easing up in his first race. he almost didn't qualify because he eased up at the wrong line and had to lunge ahead to finish 4th in his heat. the race is 10 seconds long for God's sakes, why do you need to conserve energy?
  10. i shot a 93 a couple of weeks ago at the penn state course, which wasn't bad considering that i had 40 (!!) putts. i hit most of my clubs well and was knocking my mid-irons on the green all day, but my wedges sucked and my putting was complete piss. usually it's the other way around.
  11. that might hurt chirinos in his effort to play at every level of professional baseball this season. the big club might not want him.
  12. and jack cust was available to any team in baseball for a couple of years if they were willing to put him on their major league roster. he only had the #8 OPS+ in the AL last year.
  13. i'm secretly hoping this game goes long enough for ryan harvey to get on the mound, and he is lights out there.
  14. that ridling family has got to be like cousin eddie's family in the national lampoon movies.
  15. agreed. fortunately the cubs last year displayed much better fundamentals, and they chased some pretty bad fundamental players (barrett, jones) out of town. lou doesn't really tolerate mental mistakes, which is a very welcome change from dusty. i have no doubt that the cubs will get a lot of this straightened out in short time.
  16. only one error so far tonight for vitters
  17. He's a senior sign whom we drafted this year. He could be a real prospect, but the Cubs should start moving him up in the system before we start thinking of him as such. maybe he's on the matt craig plan. but seriously, i have a hard time seeing how a senior sign who was drafted in the 25th round is much of a prospect unless he does something extremely unexpected.
  18. hopefully they can get to work; the engines in the '87 iroc can be pretty damn finicky.
  19. .241/.347/.402, which doesn't look all that great until you consider that the last two years he was at .194/.317/.346 and .148/.240/.272, and he is a 34 year old catcher.
  20. is rebel ridling a real prospect or just a guy with a cool name
  21. as i mentioned in yesterday's game thread, i'm worried that our fast start will keep us from getting the #1 overall draft pick
