  1. oh man that would be the dream scenario for this stupid "this time it counts" business, terry francona refuses to send kazmir out to the mound. what happens then? either the game just has to end as a tie, or they put in a position player to lob 40 mph softballs over the plate.
  2. lol uggla couldn't hit a basketball right now
  3. officially dying, as in his heart stops beating? because i think his brain died at least 2 years ago.
  4. When is your deadline? hour fifteen ago, but i pressed and got it pushed back til 12:10... which passed 10 minutes ago hopefully it ends and i can write something or something crosses the wire soon enough to get it in a late edition or something. either way, im here till it ends and it goes up on the website. what happens if it doesn't end very soon? is there a backup plan or something, like run some canned story or promote another story up to top billing and write "the mlb all-star game ended too late for publication"
  5. gonna be tough to get this one in the paper, huh?
  6. btw pat burrell would've homered to give the nl the win, thanks a lot brewer fans for stuffing the ballot for the less-deserving guy (waits for brewer fan response...)
  7. good thing a florida marlin is playing such a large role in who could win the world series.
  8. so will it totally shatter marmol's confidence when he gets the loss?
  9. how many people predicted that cristian guzman would be on the all star team? i bet everyone had it.
  10. NL COULD put McCann in at catcher, move Russell Martin to 3rd (he has play the position this yr) and move Guzman to 2B. Don't see it happening, but Hurdle could realistically make that decision. that'd make hurdle popular, publicly humiliating a very good player because he had a bad game.
  11. i haven't watched this game at all, because (a) i'm boycotting the fact that it means something and (b) i'm staying at my friend's house while between houses, and couldn't figure out how to change the channel. so, sex in the city for the last hour
  12. he's done that his whole career; i'm pretty sure that if it were that easy, people would've figured him out at some point in the last 15 years.
  13. these are probably the only interesting names on the list. someone (atkins/veal) should be protected and harben should be removed. i don't think reed is close enough to the majors to be selected. muyco is interesting just because he hasn't pitched much; i have a hard time seeing a team take a shot at him unless he is great the rest of the way. craig, hoffpauir and kroeger are basically backup guys and maybe a team lacking in an extra IF/OF would take a shot at them.
  14. me too... http://forum.sbrforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1171&stc=1&d=1184112212
  15. ryan harvey has been a professional for 6 years now, he still can't hit AA pitching, stay healthy or recognize pitches. nobody is going to try to keep him on a major league roster for an entire season. he's a non-prospect. craig can probably be had for 15 cents and a big mac.
  16. i have always been one of hill's biggest supporters, and even i have to agree that hill needed to be sent down. he was sliding the wrong direction, hadn't been consistently throwing strikes since last season, and his struggles in the minors confirmed this. however, the "he's a headcase, how can you pitch him in the second half?" idea is stupid. when he's throwing strikes, he's one of the best pitchers in the organization. if he reverts to wild rich, the cubs will lose, at worst, a game or two because of him. the upside is that he pitches as well as he did last year, in which case you've got yourself a significant upgrade over marquis and a guy who can start in the playoffs.
  17. stop biting your nails, ron.
  18. btw why can't so many baseball writers have this attitude? like "hey i don't know a lot about this stuff, but it sounds interesting and it might enhance my knowledge of the game, and i'd also know more about what folks are talking about, so i'm going to try to learn about it?" i'm glad you're asking - i feel like i know a lot more about the game than i did just a few years ago, and a lot of that is due to reading some of the SABR websites and books by BP and bill james. i'm going to carry the rest of this over into the FJM rants section since i actually have a question about this, but don't want to derail your thread.
