  1. nate sounds like a rather smart individual. i'm also guessing that "wicker park apartment" is code for "mother's basement"
  2. he's been in poor health for the past few years, and i think his mental acuity is not really there any more. this is the worst-reported "major" story in sports, i think.
  3. Aren't there high school players who just have it done to get it over with? I think I've heard stories like that in the past. i don't think that anybody gets it done when their UCL is totally healthy, but i do think there are pitchers who will get the surgery done even though the doctor's recommended course of action is rehabilitation. it's also a surgery that is not really worth it unless you've got plans to play in college on a full ride, or play professionally. IIRC, it's more than $10,000 to get TJS. but as for the original question, 19 years old is not young to get TJS, and numerous high school draftees every year have had it done.
  4. unless we find out that jack cust hurt himself around the house this week or was found with a huge needle in his arm, i'm going to re-add him and drop ryan zimmerman. welcome back to the team, jack.
  5. Ichiro is overrated? Because he is. seriously? Yes. Especially when he isn't a CF. wait let me guess, we were linked to the b-r page to look at his ops+, correct?
  6. he did a I buried Paul job of lining up for the throw, and then made a borderline throw he wasn't as Frankee goes to Hollywood as uggla, but who is? That's some colorful language you chose there nah, isht is the tofu of cursing
  7. i may be talking out of my rear here - i'm not expert in this subject - but isn't it believed that certain pitches thrown more frequently today put more stress on the arm? the slider and splitter are the two i'm thinking of, specifically.
  8. Absolutely not. It's unfair that the Cubs lost home field advantage (assuming they make it to the Series in the first place) because a Brewer couldn't throw out the runner at the plate. and dan uggla couldn't... well, do anything.
  9. Since there's so much discussion about him and the ASG, i figured now would be a good time for this poll. note that i'm not trying to emphasize the ASG; that's just one decision that he's made. In the large scale, it's a pretty minute issue.
  10. Honestly who gives a crap how many people watched. well the advertisers and the televising network do, since that determines how much money they pay for the game.
  11. baseball is the best one because it's the least physical, so the play on the field is very similar to what you'd see in a normal regular-season game. the pro bowl has to be the worst. does anyone care, really? it's after the season, half the players opt out, and the people who go play patty-cake because nobody wants to get hurt.
  12. I never really used to watch allstar games until the rule changed. I'm not saying this is right by any means, but it has accomplished its goal in terms of interest with the average fan, IMO. especially fans of contending teams... if the cubs were 38-57, i don't think a lot of people on this board would've given a crap about who won.
  13. as i mentioned in the game thread, was selig's plan to avoid the embarrassment of a tie (though really, who cares) or to improve ratings/interest for the game? if it's the former, then it's probably pointless. if it was the latter, however, then it's a resounding success.
  14. yes they must be irate with his 1.13 ERA, 20 saves and 0 blown saves. 2005 NLCS, 2005 WS, 19-27 saves in 2007. As Gagne and others have shown, spending that much money on closers is stupid. okay; as mariano rivera and others have shown, spending that much money on closers is smart.
  15. i think we are all rubes for selig's plan... if the game didn't count for anything, how long is the game thread and how many people are up after midnight talking about it?
  16. i too blame brewer fans
  17. yes they must be irate with his 1.13 ERA, 20 saves and 0 blown saves.
  18. that last play gives me added reason to hold brewer fans accountable for the loss
  19. tampa bay rays and scott kazmir's arm rejoice nice throw hart, you girl
  20. as a cub fan i want the nl to have home field; as a baseball fan i want the ugliest result (tie) possible.
  21. i think they will, but lidge is a reliever and really cannot be expected to pitch more than 2 innings (i'd be irate if i were the phillies and he threw more than 2), and i don't think francona will ask kazmir go more than 2. so i can see it going more than 1 more inning; they'll just have to agree to end it after that.
  22. please just score AL... i don't want anyone hurt in this stupid game.
  23. i actually think bud selig has been a good commissioner (ducks flying objects) but this is one of his worst ideas.
  24. do they call that a willard hershberger? now come on, how many people got that reference?
