  1. I'm not sure how they calculate Georgia's SoS, but it looks as if the non-D1 opponent isn't even factored in, which should lower theirs. The Pac-10 teams are playing some ridiculous schedules this year, though. It's funny how a team can play Blindnun U and not be punished for it. No way is there schedule harder than USC's. The SEC has this down to a science. they play at arizona state and then their regular rivalry of georgia tech. that is not a cupcake out of conference schedule. and the SEC is deeper in terms of top 20 teams than the pac 10.
  2. i'm pretty sure that he didn't take himself out of the game
  3. Truffle can go into much more detail, I'm sure, but it's due to something called tapering. It's where the swimmers set their training regimines so they are at their strongest for the day of the race (or week in some cases). It's certainly not an accident or pure coincidence. yeah, generally a swimmer will only shave/taper for a couple of meets a year. they'll swim other meets, but they'll be swimming a lot more yardage in the days before those meets. basically you train through the minor meets - knowing that your times will be slower - to get into better shape for the one or two meets a year that you do shave/taper for. i can't speak for what phelps does, but in college we swam about 5000-7000 yards a day for single practices, and about 10,000 yards when we had morning and afternoon practice. we'd come down a little bit in yardage before some meets, but generally never below 3500. in early january we'd do our training trip, when we'd swim about 12,000 to 14,000 yards a day. by the end of that, you'd be in great shape, but your arms would be mush. from that point until our big meet (patriot league championships), we'd come down in yardage gradually. the week before the meet, we'd never do more than 3,000 yards. you're in good enough shape and strong enough from the work that you've done during the year that coming down in yardage doesn't result in you getting out of shape. my best times in season were 2:08 in 200 back, 2:28 in 200 breast, 2:07 in 200 IM, 59.5 in 100 back, 1:56 in 200 free. shaved and tapered, my best times were 2:02 in 200 back, 2:21 in 200 breast, 2:02 in 200 IM, 57.0 in 100 back, 1:51 in 200 free. obviously i'm not as good as phelps or anyone in the olympics, but it's the same idea - my fastest times came in the meet that I expected to swim fastest.
  4. and maybe we'd get the side bonus of him blowing out his arm.
  5. i'm glad he didn't walk a third time, that would be excessive base clogging.
  6. i'd sure find a way to like him if he were the cubs' manager.
  7. how can someone with such mediocre stuff have such trouble throwing strikes? it amazes me that marquis doesn't give up more runs than he does.
  8. 3. trees 4. forest 5. baby 6. bathwater
  9. yeah people always talk about duncan, but who's their hitting coach? he turned ryan ludwick into the five best hitters in the game and turned aaron miles and skippy schumaker into good hitters.
  10. Too bad we didn't sign Alexi Ramirez from the cuba minor leagues, he is tearing it up. There has to be some more good Cubans down there??!!?1 haha so you think alexei ramirez is an impact hitter but you say nobody cares about matt wieters, who's probably the #2 prospect in baseball and is hitting .350 with an OPS of 1.050 in the minors? hilarious.
  11. well whatever, if he's looking for more than he should get, then don't pay him.

  13. seriously, just contract that organization. would anybody be upset?
  14. these aren't exactly "bad/meh" for middle infielders.
  15. dude the nationals can't score more than 5 runs in a week. the 4th run was a dagger.
  16. so why aren't YOU swimming in the olympics?
  17. He was going to die behind that o-line anyways. Not sure how someone can break their foot twice in non-contact drills. This season is going to be so brutal. Thanks for leaving the cupboard empty, Dorrell. sure, blame the black guy.
  18. if they keep playing little league teams, i don't think it'll matter whether braun is in the lineup or not.
  19. so ben olson broke his foot again? i bet raisin is feeling really good about this season now.
  20. i'm pretty sure there are some people who do.
  21. why couldn't someone else have put in a claim on him? :x
  22. .362/.459/.624/1.083 at AA - in the eastern league, which i think favors pitchers actually. .351/.452/.595/1.047 on the season - 18 doubles, 24 HR, 80 RBI, 72 BB/67 K those are some ridiculous numbers, my friends.
  23. I forgot to mention that Price has been promoted to AAA. he's pretty easily the best prospect in the game, right? i can't think of anyone who has a real argument otherwise.
  24. phelps broke the olympic record in prelims of the 200 fly this morning... only 1.7 seconds off his world record. that event is such a cruise for him, it's great. i think he saved a lot in the tank for the relay last night and will win the 200 free fairly handily tonight. 100 fly (crocker) and 200 IM (lochte) are his biggest threats at this point, IMO.
