  1. if he murders dusty baker and they put him on trial, i would vote not guilty.
  2. i'm thinking that it has more to do with the fact that doug eddings is a horrible umpire than anything about him favoring the white sox.
  3. Season over. kinda telling that fred's program doesn't account for the possibility of a three digit number there. i'm guessing if we were, say, the yankees or braves, that bug wouldn't be there.
  4. bergmann needs to invest in some just for men
  5. yes, please bitch about fukudome or howry tomorrow.
  6. well i'm the one "no" vote and i'm sticking with it.
  7. PECOTA has pujols producing at a value of $25-28M per year and wright/ramirez at roughly the same value (not as good offensive production, but better baserunning and they play a more valuable defensive position). I'm guessing that pujols would've been #1 if they were each the same age, but Pujols is (at least) 3 years older than wright and 4 years older than Ramirez.
  8. hey nbc, thanks for showing every other women's volleyball game live, except for the freakin gold medal match, which is on 8 hours after it happens. no wonder nobody watches your crappy network.
  9. i guess you aren't satisfied with his .375/.463/.607 line in august? i guess you are pining for the normal aramis rather than the ted williams that he's been this month? OPS+ the last 5 years: 138, 135, 126, 129, 130 EqA: .307, .302, .292, .293, .297 so i have to say that i have no idea what you're referring to.
  10. it's not that improbable but it's still unlikely. if he keeps his strikeout numbers down and maintains a solid walk rate, and stops hitting fly balls as frequently as he did this year, he can be a pretty productive hitter - assuming that he doesn't have horrible luck. and, while selling high isn't a bad idea, you have to remember that (a) the cubs don't have another shortstop ready to play, and (b) there isn't going to be a whole lot of money available to spend in the offseason. i just don't know that you're going to do better than a shortstop who can put up a .350-.370 OBP at just about the major league minimum.
  11. i'm glad that baseball is being removed from the olympics, but synchronized swimming remains
  12. The Pirates had a really good draft and dropped some coin on some on their guys (3 players got a bonus of $900,000 or more). They also had 1 big name signing in Latin America. yeah, a lot of their guys signed too late to play in short season ball so they headed to instructionals. i have to think there is something wrong with the spikes though - they just shouldn't be this bad. their pitching is especially horrible and they make a lot of fundamental mistakes in the field. i'm guessing that the coaching staff is not doing their job properly. dubya, i don't really know what i'm going to be doing for the playoffs, but if you want to meet up at champs for a game, let me know. i don't know who else is in state college other than priorpower. sports cafe will almost certainly be completely remodeled inside; the former owners did a really half-assed job with the interior before. they got loans intended for the sports cafe and poured most of that money into the links, a bar down on west college ave. they didn't pay a bunch of former employees, and i have heard from two good sources that the co-owner of the place was selling cocaine out of there. good riddance to them.
  13. yeah, i heard that he and the missus like to swing.
  14. hard to lose when your babip is like .750
  15. If I remember, I'll contribute too. Actually, I probably won't be here for playoff game threads.... they would drive me absolutely nuts and I'll probably be sitting on a friend's couch or at a bar or something. Most of it isn't complaining about the Cubs. Most of it is people complaining about the complaining. Apparently you're not supposed to point out when they suck. Who knew? or maybe some people just enjoy posting in game threads and are tired of them being overrun by irrational fools who can't keep the big picture in mind when watching the cubs lose one game.
  16. well yeah that is annoying, but we also swept the brewers in a 4-game series in milwaukee, and that certainly wasn't likely to happen either.
  17. what are the chances that the cubs pack up and move to oklahoma city in the middle of the night, out of embarrassment of losing this game? i'd say 98%.
  18. You could also point to the numerous other games the Cubs lost over the course of the season as being equally responsible, whether they were losses to the Brewers or to the Nationals. Of course, ut he said that this game does not matter, then goes on to call ME ignorant. I called the position an ignorant position to take. I never said YOU were ignorant. maybe it's irrational, not ignorant. i mean, if the cubs do lose by a game, we'd eventually come back to games against the nationals and wish we hadn't lost them. but since the cubs are like 90% to win the division and 99% to make the playoffs, it's pretty irrational to spend 95% of your time talking about the possibility of a collapse.
  19. And this thread is annoying even with that ratio. God could you imagine what it would be if the ratio was reversed? There might be a suicide pact or something. that'd certainly improve the quality of future game threads to have the only two non-crazies dead and a game thread full of unbridled insanity? wait i thought the crazies were killing themselves and we're only losing two rational people. Could go either way. If the crazies don't kill themselves, the rational might have to just to escape the crazies. I'm confused, should I kill myself or not? couldn't hurt

  21. i prefer losing occasionally at home and winning half the time on the road to winning all the time at home and losing 60% on the road, to be honest.
