  1. no kidding, people were freaking out because we were "only" beating bad teams by a run or two.
  2. so who's pitching now? hart? guzman? howry?
  3. i have trouble seeing anything more than a 4th outfielder.
  4. yeah that was pretty bad, lou. oh well, get 'em next year.
  5. i guess that could refer to two or three of the entries, what about the rest?
  6. yeah if it's a 12 team league and you have to start 2 RBs, dropping a starting running back is extremely dumb.
  7. smoking pot, oh no. not that the players shouldn't be more careful, but some things about this country really piss me off. and i've never smoked pot in my life. the point isn't whether or not pot should be legal, it's that idiot student athletes who have been told a million times to stay out of trouble still seem to find it. a one-game suspension is generous well they play syracuse and temple after this, so in true fsu/osu fashion, they should make it a three game suspension.
  8. hahaha. i knew going into that game that ou would lay the wood to atm for the upset the previous year, but i had no idea they'd beat them like that.
  9. Yea, that really means nothing in terms of the 2008 Cubs. Hell, the 2005 White Sox have nothing to do with the 2008 Cubs either, for that matter, but people need to find comfort in different ways. That's cool. plus a lot of teams have a history of collapsing down the stretch. the dodgers had great chances in 1942 and 1951 but didn't make the playoffs. the 1964 phillies lost 10 games in a row to end the 1964 season and lost the pennant by a game. the 1993 giants blew it. the 1995 angels had a 1 in 8000 chance of missing the playoffs. the red sox were above 92% chance to make the playoffs at various points in the 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons, and didn't make it in any of those years. not to mention the 1978 red sox. 2005 indians? 2007 mets? 2004 yankees in the playoffs? for every year like 1969 and 2004 in the cubs' history, there have been 10 years like 2002 and 2006, when the cubs were completely uncompetitive. nobody associates the giants or dodgers or yankees or red sox (well, not any more) with choking because they've done plenty of good things in their history. for the cubs, the problem has not been choking down the stretch, it's been putting a team on the field that's good enough to be in contention down the stretch.

  11. cashner seems to be tough to hit when he throws the ball over or near the plate.
  12. baseball prospectus found that three major components to winning in the playoffs are: * A power pitching staff, as measured by normalized strikeout rate. * A good closer, as measured by WXRL. * A good defense, as measured by FRAA. zambrano isn't a strikeout pitcher any more, so if he's lost it's not the end of the world. harden, lilly and dempster all strike out more guys, and marmol and wood have very good k-rates. kerry wood has been excellent this year, contrary to what budhouse might believe. while FRAA kinda sucks - the cubs' defense has ranked among the best in baseball in defensive efficiency all year. so if zambrano were to miss the playoffs, are the cubs sunk? hardly.
  13. The Tigers were a pretty good team on paper. How that work out? are the tigers 30 games over .500? my God.
  14. cowboys @ browns is a game that most of the country will be getting, and it should be a good game. i guess if you would prefer carolina at san diego or arizona at san francisco, you'll have to head to the bar to catch them.
  15. this is who should win: al manager of the year - joe maddon in a landslide nl manager of the year - manager of whoever wins the nl central (yes, this could mean ned yost i suppose) exec of the year - andrew friedman nl roy - geovany soto al roy - evan longoria nl mvp - pujols al mvp - sizemore if it's best player, or pedroia if it's best player on a playoff team nl cy young - lincecum al cy young - cliff lee
  16. why were you listening to colin cowherd? that was your first mistake.
  17. career ending and i'd have to think about it. missing one year? no brainer.
  18. this is one of those nice feelgood stories in pro baseball, kinda like the ryan o'malley story. he stuck with it even though he was long past the time when one would expect to get a september cup of coffee, and after almost 20 years as a pro baseball player, hits a home run in the big leagues. congrats to scott, i am sure he will remember that one forever.
  19. Dolphins don't play during the summer having lived in florida in september and october, i can assure you that most of the time, those months are not much more pleasant for outdoor activities than august.
  20. i have no idea what to think of this article. if he's serious, the premise is incredibly stupid. if he's kidding, he did a poor job of making it clear that he's kidding.
  21. fantastic news! i'd give him a couple of weeks off and hope that he's ready to go by then.
  22. i believe the official name of our opponent tonight is "dusty baker's reds"
  23. the brewers should also try beating some good teams once in a while. it's all well and good that you have a nice record from beating up on the pirates and nationals and reds lately, but getting swept at home by the mets and cubs isn't doing much to back up the claim that you're better than those teams.
  24. aren't there a few more reasons to be optimistic, like "cubs have best record in national league" and "cubs have best team on paper in national league" and "the rest of the national league isn't especially good."
  25. seriously, just move them or contract them. it's just a waste of everyone's time having a team in south florida.
