  1. .308 coming into this game. they do have one of the higher LD% in baseball.
  2. red sox-angels game has been a good one. 5-4 red sox in the 9th, bases loaded, papelbon and howie kendrick having a hell of a battle.
  3. i'm glad i have pujols in 2 of my 4 fantasy leagues... he's kinda good.
  4. well i was going to pick a safety but for some reason everyone picked a safety in the 4th round. i will go with a guy who should be a good special teams player, and can provide some good speed on defense. jonathan casillas, olb, wisconsin. i'll PM the next person up.
  5. my favorite part is that half the posters in this thread are crapping on a guy who got on base 3 times and made 1 error instead of a first baseman who isn't hitting, a LF who went hitless got a bad read on a ball and couldn't prevent it from going over his head even though he was playing deep to prevent doubles, and a manager who had his head up his ass for the last 3 innings of the game. Oh, cause my favorite part was that all of those people have been ripped on numerous times in this thread, and you only feel the need to defend the scrappy white guy who must've said hi to you at some minor league game 5 years ago. i've never met the guy, probably never will. and thank you for mentioning the part about him being white to reinforce what i said about my being a complete racist.
  6. i'm not sure that that's the case, but chances are he doesn't get a hit since gregg has good velocity and duffy stinks. bottom line, you don't throw a 3-2 curve with the bases empty and a 1 run lead when the guy batting is a lousy hitter but has great speed.

  8. I was trying to avoid bringing Ronny into the discussion, but he makes that play either way it goes. Of course he doesn't add much offensively, and I doubt Lou pulls Ryan for him anyway, so it's really moot. But if we're talking hypothetically, having Cedeno in there saves the game. wait you have a problem with theriot's decision making but you're pimping cedeno? Yeah, Ronny probably woulda fielded it, then run out to LF and handed it to Soriano. I don't know what specifically caused your bizarred loathing of Ronny Cedeno or your almost as bizarre mancrush on Ryan Theriot, but I'm really impressed that you're still holding strong to it to this day no matter what the situation. it's probably because i'm racist, just like everyone else who thinks theriot is a decent ballplayer.
  9. right, because i'm certainly the only one saying that theriot probably made the right play there. but keep at it with the condescending posts, meph.
  10. why not? it was the right play to throw home there, regardless of who made it. unlike some of you, i'm not looking to jump on anyone when they don't do anything wrong.
  11. i was with you until i got here.
  12. starlin castro - one of the few minor leaguers that i care about - has 2 more singles and has knocked in a pair of runs. vitters is 0-2; carpenter started and went 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. marcus mateo: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 K. searle: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 HBP.

  14. That's absurd. Hoff had a good chance to drive the run in with a sac fly or a hit, and probably less of a chance to gidp than Miles. Gathright was extremely unlikely to ground into the dp. judging by career stats, gathright has GIDP'ed in 1.3% of his ABs, hoffpauir in 1.8% of his minor league ABs and miles in 2.2% of his ABs. so even if lou was trying to avoid the DP, he did the wrong thing.
  15. theriot's throw was also slightly up the first base line, so there's a chance that a perfect throw gets him or at least allows hill to block home plate.
  16. I sorta agree. I don't think they'd be able to turn 2, but I do think that it was possible to turn the 2. There was no chance to get the runner at home. Lou put them in double play depth for a reason. Not so they could field it and throw him. If he wanted Ryan to throw home, he would have ordered the IF to play in. right you put him in that depth so that braun can't knock an easy single through the drawn in infield, and he can try to turn two on a double play ball. problem is, braun didn't hit it hard and hit it toward the third base side. it wasn't a double play ball.
  17. ok i'm going to stop arguing this because apparently i watched a different game. i didn't think the double play was at all an option there unless the guy who hit it fell down out of the box or ran like a fatass. since braun runs pretty well i didn't think there was a shot at two.
  18. the outfielder - soriano - got a bad jump on a routine fly ball. you're ripping a shortstop for not making a catch on a lazy fly ball to left field. it was the only play he had. you're letting your hatred for theriot distort your view of the game. trying to turn two on that play would have been a terrible decision.
  19. He had him struck-out. there were borderline pitches that could've gone either way - just as there were the entire game - but to throw a very fast, very bad hitter a curve on 3-2 is idiotic.
  20. explain Questionable defensive decisions. Horrid basepath instincts. Below average range. Below average arm. okay, what questionable defensive decisions did he make today? and his defense has been evaluated as right around average by most defensive metrics, which doesn't mesh with your assessment. Why throw home off your back foot when you know your arm isn't strong enough to do that when you can attempt to turn a double play? attempt to start a double play with his poor arm when braun has pretty good speed, hit the ball to the third base side of SS and didn't hit it particularly hard? if they'd tried to turn the DP braun would've been safe by a step and a half and you'd be here bitching that theriot didn't throw home.
