  1. hartnell is still on his quest to break the record for most stupid minor penalties taken in a calendar year. hopefully these are the last few days in the coaching career of john stevens. i doubt it, but i can hope.
  2. who hit the home run and what did he do with derrek lee?
  3. who the hell is seth smith and why the hell can't cub pitchers get him out
  4. Id be all for Guz getting the closer job, but I think hes going to have to show Lou he can throw strikes consistently before its even considered. yeah he needs to get confidence in his stuff and learn not to nibble against big league hitters. plus the guy really needs experience, he's been hurt so much during his career. throwing him into the closer role at this stage is really premature.
  5. Too bad Lou doesn't lou doesn't really have a choice. the next option for a lefthanded pitcher beyond cotts is j.r. mathes or the wrong papelbon. Jason Waddell demands recognition! Also, we have some decent lefties in AA who might be ready come mid-summer. still, if your "loogy" has control problems and no special ability to get LH batters out, and you have no options beyond that except for a handful of decent arms at AA, your general manager has failed.
  6. I'm pretty sure Derosa won't hit .150 all season. It's great to sell high, but you're supposed to get something back in return. yeah i would've understood the trade a lot more if they'd gotten something more than 3 marginal prospects. derosa had good value at his salary and the indians basically took a dump in a paper bag and gave it to the cubs.
  7. miles is somehow managing to do worse than the already-low expectations everyone had for him.

  9. Looked great and was hitting his spots, but for whatever reason, the Rockies were able to sit on their pitches and make Harden pay. he had 4 walks in 3 innings, i wouldn't call that "hitting his spots" unless he was trying to throw a lot of balls. He was throwing the changeup right where he normally does and gets swinging strikes. Rockies hitters just laid off it somehow today, which is why Brenly thinks he was tipping his pitches. brenly thinks everyone is tipping their pitches when they have a bad day.
  10. pretty sure i've mentioned this before, but cotts sucks and i hate him.
  11. Coudnt that be a little better if Lou would just play Hoff against the RHP instead of Reed? depends on how much defense you're willing to sacrifice in the outfield.

  13. cedeno/miles argument aside, today's lineup is why i think the derosa trade was a bad idea. i'm all for getting fontenot more ABs, but i'd sure as hell rather have derosa in the lineup than aaron miles or reed johnson versus RHP.
  14. i'm not a fan of overmanaging and making 50 pitching changes, but 3 of the next 4 hitters are LH and vizcaino can't get LH hitters out, so he should be done.
  15. cristiano ronaldo is pretty good.
  16. great, walk a guy with one hit on the season.
  17. I'd really like that question to be asked. I'm pretty sure at least 80% of them have led to an unnecessary out. i also can't think of many positive results that have come out of running. lots of caught stealing, one stolen base was a gift of a blown call from an umpire, and no singles through the vacated hole. in fact i remember a bradley GIDP where the 2B was moving toward 2B and the ball was hit right at him.
  18. either get a hit or make an out, harden isn't going to go more than 5 if atkins has a 40 pitch at bat.
  19. With Lee hitting and his propensity to hit in Dp's last year I dont blame Lou. That only encourages him to swing at bad pitches. Frankly, part of the reason Lee had so many freaking DPs last year was because he'd be up with a runner on first and Lou would stupidly call for a hit and run. well they need to either stop calling for hit and runs or start telling lee to swing more on borderline 3-2 pitches. the current philosophy of "watch lee take a strike and run into easy double play" isn't working out.
  20. well they seem to have forgotten to lock the rosters, just like last year. so anyway here's what i've got: C Jason Kendall 1B Travis Ishikawa 2B Alexi Casilla 3B Andy Laroche SS Cesar Izturis LF Wladimir Balentien CF Willy Taveras RF Austin Kearns P Ian Snell P Daniel Cabrera
