  1. i knew who this was going to be before i clicked on it. that guy had a career IsoD of .060 in the minors, and his ability to hit bad balls is legendary, so vitters has a lot of work to do.
  2. (a) no you shouldn't be concerned. (b) it's extremely unlikely that he'll be getting on base nearly 40% of the time without walking much. even right now he doesn't quite have a .400 OBP and he's hitting .360. tony gwynn was probably the best "pure hitter" in the last 25 years; he had a career .338 BA but it's very unlikely that vitters is this good, plus his K rate will be higher than gwynn, who only K'ed in about 4.5% of his ABs. i guess my point is, if he's going to get on base almost 40% of the time, he's going to have to start drawing some walks.
  3. go duke women's tennis (???) tonight!
  4. The funny thing I didn't think about was that Harrison has already been to the White House when the Steelers won 3 years ago! Seriously, a black man goes to the Bush White House, but not the Obama White House? he didn't go the last time either.
  5. well hopefully ricketts will be smart enough to know that if the cubs stay good and competitive, the value of the franchise will be growing, and if he wants to make money in the long run he should keep the franchise growing rather than freeze spending because he isn't making money in the short term.
  6. does carrie muscat just pick the dumbest questions to answer, or is she mostly besieged with idiotic questions?
  7. Funny that you say that. Watch for Braun in Web Gems tonight as he made a very nice catch. Because we all know that having a web gem totally validates your defensive prowess. Never said that, but your post mocked his defense prowess for tonight. Tonight he made a play that mot many LF could make. i highly doubt that, since braun is worse defensively than most LF.
  8. first career home run for gamel. and he fielded a ground ball and threw to first without screwing it up, so big night for him.
  9. tennessee won game 1 of their doubleheader 8-7. barney and clevenger were each 2-3 with a walk, marquez smith was 3-4 with his first AA home run, thomas singled in 4 ABs. pitching was not so good - coleman gave up 4 runs in 4 innings (1 BB/1 K), muyco gave up 5 hits and a walk in an inning plus, gaub walked 2 but otherwise had an uneventful inning. schlitter got the save, striking out 1 in his inning of work.
  10. home run #6 for vitters, he's a triple away from the cycle in the 4th inning. he's blowing up the past couple of weeks; .368/.398/.584 on the year and .435/.453/.806 in may.
  11. he was having a really good year. a couple of my fantasy teams (on in particular that has a 2B/SS requirement) are unhappy about this development.
  12. vitters and josh harrison are both 2-2 with a single and a double. flaherty is 1-2.
  13. daytona going to have a tough time playing the next few days, it's turning very wet in florida.
  14. here's your proof: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/
  15. Ok, sorry. Somehow the ability to double switch slipped my mind. I'd have still let Fontenot and Scales hit and brought in Hoff in the 9 spot in the ninth. i might have done that in a one run game, but needing some power down 3 and bringing the game tying run to the plate, i'd much prefer a guy who has an OPS over .900 and 4 homers in 72 ABs to a guy who hasn't been hitting for beans this month.
  16. That's if Hoff reaches safely. If not, then he pinch hits and then we burn Miles to replace him in the field. I'm not necessarily against it, but I don't think it was an awful non-move either. What? I'm not sure what's not clear about what I said. Can you elaborate where you're confused? Basically my point is that if Hoff pinch hits for either Fontenot or Scales in the 8th inning and records an out and the rest of the inning continues the way it did, then either Font or Scales will be out of the game and either Hoff will have to play 2B or 3B or Lou would have to pull Hoff and place in Miles to play in the 9th. Am I completely missing something? i don't think you have to do that. all you do is put the pitcher in the spot that hoffpauir pinch hit at (#7) and the put miles at 2B/3B, batting #9.
  17. the wings are the defending cup champions and the most talented team in hockey; even if you still think the hawks can win the series i think there's reason to be concerned, based purely on how good the other team is.
  18. he settled in pretty well after that - he only threw 7 balls in 24 pitches, but 2 of them hit batters and another was a wild pitch. it was a really weird outing, for sure.
  19. i'm much worse than i've done in previous years. :x
  20. joe mauer at one point was considered to be joe mauer with power. great "pure hitter" (whatever that means) with good size, but he never really hit many home runs. castro is like 19, it's probably too early to compare him to people. i guess maybe edgar renteria, a pretty good fielder with decent pop for a SS? thomas would be an offensive 2B, probably like a ray durham with fewer walks.
  21. mccreary is terrible. That was only the second comment I made about officiating all game too. furlatt is awful too. can't believe that's an official pairing in a conference final.
