  1. Yet he has still been better than Bradley, Fontenot and Soto, and will be better this year than Fox or Hoffpauir would be on the field full-time. Lee might not be "that good" anymore, but why isn't he getting the benefit of the doubt when guys like Fontenot (who wasn't a highly regarded prospect and has never performed in a full-time role) and Soto (who had a mediocre minor league career until he blew up in AAA and last year in the majors) are? Because those guys are making close to the league minimum? Also, the fact he is taking up $13.25 million in payroll this year might have something to do with it. and that's a sunk cost. you don't bench a guy just because he's not performing up to the amount of money that he's making.
  2. i'll believe that when i see it.
  3. holy crap this would be a bad defensive team.
  4. three year splits of .292..310/.511/.821 versus LH batters. in other words, no.
  5. yet another cardinal scrub is putting up a dominant pitching performance.
  6. maybe we can get some sort of frankenstein's monster right fielder. babe ruth's left arm and andre dawson's right arm and adam dunn's eyes (not because he's good at walking, just because they're dreamy) and barry bonds's steroids and so on. if you're talking about baseball-playing robots, i've been pimping this idea for years. frankly i'm disappointed that no forward-thinking organization has tried it out.
  7. that shot was a hail mary. mj never put up a hail mary because he never put himself in a situation where he needed to take one. there was one second on the clock, this wasn't a craig ehlo/bryon russell situation.
  8. you don't become probert or getzlaf immediately upon reaching the NHL, and grimson probably played 2 minutes a game in the playoffs. also, probert, grimson, and getzlaf are like...entirely different players. grimson's career high in points over an entire season was 6. probert had enough skill to play a regular shift pretty well, but is nothing like getzlaf, who's a franchise center. well yeah, i just think that as far as playing a role, probert actually could influence the game more than grimson. but yes, getzlaf is far more talented than probert, who was better than grimson. regardless, it's inane to suggest that calling up beach would have a huge impact on the series.
  9. i'm really surprised at how well orlando is playing them. cleveland needs to defend the 3-ball better and lebron's supporting cast needs to start showing up.
  10. The problem with this guys take on it is this....almost every check can be called charging if you are going to pull out the rule book. He also is the big scott stevens fan, how he can call kronwall a questionable player and like scott stevens seems a little inconsistent. Steven ruined several careers with hits similar to Kronwalls. Like I said earlier, Kronwall has a rep for leaving his feet on big hits. He did not on this hit and it was perfectly clean. I think what is worse is again the refs look at the damage done and than give a penalty. If you didnt call it as a penalty when it happened, what changed your mind a minute later. edit: sorry I messed up..the wisneski guy or puck daddy is the stevens fan. I have no idea who this seth from empty netters is Right...I think the 5 minute interference was put in the rule book to penalize Stevens type his. Seriously, with all the research coming out on the long term problems that guys with concussion problems encounter...hits like this should be penalized in a way that will make guys stop going for headshots. Yah its fun to watch someone get lit up (as long as your team isn't on the receiving end), but the NHL is really trying to reduce headshots and thats why hits like this get called so harshly. And they should be. Tonight's game would have been a perfectly entertaining game without having to watch Havlat out cold with his eyes open. but what do you call the stevens hit on lindros from 2000? it couldn't be interference because lindros had the puck. i guess roughing, but really, lindros was just skating with his head down and stevens blindsided him. it was a clean hit that was violent and stevens' shoulder or upper arm hit lindros' head. if they're going to start assessing 5 minutes for that then they're going to have to make a new rule.

  12. i think part of it is running into good pitchers, but there are some guys in the lineup who are just slumping. soriano is in a funk and fontenot has been horrible this month. it hasn't seemed like there were a lot of hard hit balls in the st. louis series or tonight. plus miles sucks.
  13. it helps me stay positive during the losing streaks. plus it's the cubs, does anyone really believe they're going to win a world series?
  14. i was talking about after they're done changing. i'm no monster.
  15. he really hasnt had the opportunity. If theres a close play that we get the wrong end of the call on, then yeah, he can throw a tantrum, but its just been bad offense. He cant go kick dirt on the ump over a routine pop out or grounder. i'm not talking about bad calls, i'm talking about him expressing that the way the cubs are playing right now is not acceptable. burning down the locker room should get that message acros.
  16. lou needs to light a fire under this team. literally. i'm thinking he set fire to the visitors locker room.
  17. $13m to play a game and the guy can't even hit a grand slam. what a joke.
  18. As opposed to the teams that look pumped and excited during a losing streak? As opposed to guys who aren't making millions of dollars to play a game...thanks for playing though. What? I don't care how much money a player makes on any level: if their team is in a prolonged slump, pretty much everyone looks and acts miserable. uh dude it's a GAME. like monopoly or chutes and ladders. and didn't you have fun playing little league? i would've taken millions of dollars to do that, no question!

  20. boy if the players don't care in late May then we've got bigger problems than injuries and the lack of offense.
  21. I think his biggest problem now is he's back on the fat. no, he got on steroids for 2 years - completely ignoring the minor league and major league testing that was in place - lost 30 lbs as a result of the steroids, then decided to stop using them even though they made him really awesome and helped him win an NL rookie of the year award. plus all he got out of it was a call up to the big leagues - no long term contract or anything. this story doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
  22. Did his bat just slow down? I mean what's the deal with him? I think he was on the juice myself. I think the wrist injury combined with his age is a better answer than any nebulous "he was on steroids" reason plus tall, rangy guys like him don't tend to age that well because they have a longer swing and their loss of bat speed hurts them more than it does a shorter guy with a more compact swing. they probably shouldn't have given him 5 years, $65M after that one great season.
  23. plus he's not a complete black hole like miles or fontenot (recently)
  24. if you have that kind of money i'd prefer you just give it to me.
