  1. after the last trade that stewart made, i have no doubt that his phone has been ringing red hot from teams asking what it would take to pry away bradley.
  2. can you imagine if a white manager said that he wanted more white players because they're better at (insert positive baseball trait) here? [expletive] dusty, he should get suspended. (not to mention his incredibly tone-deaf comments on domestic abuse). what a dick.
  3. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/poolboybob/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpssprpoxto.jpg never forget.
  4. it's not really that simple. the pirates, if they use all of their club options, have niese for 3/30. hammel is a free agent after this season. the pirates presumably valued the cost control that niese offered. Doesn't hammel have an extremely cheap 2017 option yeah, $12m. for some reason i just remembered the contract as 2/20 and didn't know there was an option. guess that makes it not too different from niese then.

  6. he also was born and grew up in pittsburgh, and was drafted by the organization. fans and writers liked him because he was a pitt guy who made it.
  7. if it wasn't going to get them a pitcher like shelby miller then they should have just waited it out. they squandered a huge amount of value and got a pitcher who is, unless he makes a great leap forward, no better than "good", and they're getting him for his 3 most expensive arbitration years.
  8. i still can't get past the fact that inciarte was better than miller the last two years, and has more years of team control left. it's a [expletive] abysmal deal; i probably wouldn't even have traded inciarte for miller straight up. if you're making this deal, you HAVE to get back a better player than shelby miller.
  9. is that a joke? i don't even know if i'd trade seager for fernandez straight up.
  10. it seems like the braves are very much back on the right track to replicate the john schuerholtz era, after frank wren's reign of terror mercifully ended last year. in a few years they might be ready to snap our four world series winning streak.
  11. if this trade had been made in roadkill literally the entire league would have vetoed it.
  12. if that's what one year of heyward gets you, then let's just sign him for 2 years and $100 million and then trade him next offseason.
  13. i'd be [expletive] irate if the cardinals had held on to miller for 2015 and then dealt him for that kind of package.
  14. there are times when a pretty good player is traded for a relatively weak prospect return, and my reaction is "damn, the cubs really should have beaten that deal." this is not one of those times.
  15. Well I know who's going in my new sig gordon wittenmyer?

  17. was there really talk of them giving up pollock? that seems weird, he's been really good for 2-3 years now. trading him to upgrade pitching seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
  18. let's just get hammel's awesome first half out of him and then trade him at the all star break to a dumb GM who doesn't know how to find his second half career numbers on b-r or fangraphs. Figuring that Theo is needing to move some payroll to make Heyward fit. He can trade Montero, Hammel and Wood. Between these three, they should be able to get a stop gap C to fill in until Contreras is ready to take over full time. And don't the Cubs still have LaStella? Wonder what the need to include Ryan was for. who are you replacing montero with? if you're really going for it in 2016 - and all indications are that the cubs are - i'm not too big on trading out a catcher with a solid bat and a good glove for some replacement-level dud.
  19. ryan is under contract to make $1 million in 2016, it's probably just something to do with 2016 salary and the yankees wanting to dump his salary. if the cubs don't want him they'll just release him, no big deal. i'm guessing the cubs dump him if baez is still on the roster and maybe keep him around if they still need a backup shortstop.

  22. i can't believe that weed is a suspendable offense. what a joke.
  23. it's the new york post, not putting any thought into what they publish is pretty much their business philosophy.
  24. i don't understand why soler is so hopeless in the outfield. he's got a great arm and can run reasonably well. most guys who blow defensively have some sort of physical reason that they're lousy - poor speed, bad agility, bad hands, etc. soler seems to have the tools to play a solid RF, he just seems to have no ability to read the ball off the bat.
