  1. he got into the game. gave up 4 hits and a walk and then left.
  2. castro is 3-3 with a home run in the FSL all star game. carpenter so far: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR.
  3. Yeah, Marmol is the classic case of a pitcher who just needs to trust his stuff and throw the ball over the plate. His movement alone will make most people miss his pitches. i think marmol trusts his stuff, but i also think he tries to strike guys out on junk pitches when he should just let the nastiness of the pitch beat them. but sometimes he just can't throw strikes - i'm not sure if it's inconsistency with his mechanics or his release point, or if he's aiming the ball too much, but it's a problem that has gotten worse this season.
  4. i think what impresses me most about the pro golfers is their ability to hit the ball accurately and a long way out of the rough. i played on the penn state blue course about a month after they hosted the big ten men's championship... they had grown out the rough to at least 6 inches deep. while they were starting to trim it down, they can't chop it all at once because it leaves huge clumps of mowed grass and hurts the grass below the clumps. most of the time when i drove it in the rough - which unfortunately that day was quite frequently - i couldn't hit the ball more than 100 yards out of the rough. these guys hit out of 3-4" rough all the time; it's only when they're truly plugged that they can't advance the ball very far.
  5. marmol's stuff is so nasty that if he throws strikes, he's going to be very effective. that wiffle ball slider, when he starts it right at the batter and it breaks back over the plate - i can count on one hand the number of times i've seen someone make solid contact with it. he needs to get the slider over; it's a great pitch and he doesn't need to keep throwing it out of the zone trying to get people to chase.
  6. i cant respect any gallery that treats phil mickleson like the messiah they love everybody. except colin montgomerie probably. everyone behaves like the stereotype of a loud italian guy from the bronx, complete with 20 morons yelling "get in the hole" after every swing - including a tee shot on a par 5.
  7. that was before he got older and suffered concussions. he's not good any more.
  8. i love how new yorkers try to show how rowdy they are and turn into a billy madison gallery.
  9. i have little confidence that fox can hit kerry's breaking ball... hopefully he gets a good fastball to hit.
  10. meh shoppach is as much at fault as wood here.
  11. Fox is already in the game. Suicide squeeze? Blanco is a pretty good bunter. i find this to be hilarious. he's an atrocious fielder and yet lou gets him into the game via a double switch, so he ends up fielding and may not end up batting.
  12. Absolutely. Good start. Ugh. Why Lou? Maybe Soto will hit for Miles and have Koyie play 3rd or something? lou almost never PH's for miles. he seems to be the only person who doesn't realize that miles hasn't hit at all this year.
  13. Is there any way we can get Patton to sign a contract that puts him on whatever team the Cubs are playing on any given day the rest of the season? That would be a good trade. i don't see why we don't just work out something with the rockies so that we can send patton down. give them a PTBNL, a low level prospect. it's not like he's some future stud that they're praying we have to give back.
  14. ok seriously have that guy pee in a cup, where the hell is this coming from.
  15. it's like a race to score before we have to put patton in the game.
  16. joe smith??? i think the witness protection program is relocating people into the indians bullpen.
  17. i like the concept of it, but i don't like that our LOOGY isn't that good against LH baters is our really our long man who shouldn't be burned against one batter in a close game.
  18. miles is a singles hitter? i thought he was an outs hitter.
