  1. the thing i don't understand about him is that he seems to have no concept of what it's like to be a public figure and professional athlete. don't want people saying you've had a shitty year when you go out to dinner? then either play better, order a pizza, or sign a small contract with the marlins and you'll have that peace and quiet. or become an accountant, nobody will boo you when you're out at dinner if you screw up, except if you run into one of your customers. but you signed a big contract with a team in the third-largest city in america; that team has a very passionate and large fan base and when you play poorly, you're going to hear about it. almost every star in the game seems to know how to tune out the bad stuff; milton just lets it eat at him more and more.
  2. it's not that bad as far as his production, but given his demeanor, relatively poor season (except for OBP) and injury history, he's a significant risk and nobody is going to take on his contract at full value. And they're wrong to not want to take that on? what are you talking about? who said it was wrong for nobody to want milton's contract?
  3. like it matters any more. thankfully he's a free agent after this season, so the cards might have to replace him with another loser-turned-borderline-all-star. actually i'm just hoping that dave duncan leaves, as unlikely as that may be.

  5. yeah, hopefully management can sit down with him and get him to cool it for the rest of this disastrous season, and then next year things will be better. i certainly don't want him to make himself so hated in chicago with these comments that they're essentially forced to move him for scraps while eating a bunch of money. the red sox dealt with manny ramirez for a long time... milton can't be a bigger asshat than manny.
  6. shocking that soriano would see only sliders and strike out.
  7. yeah plus aramis got hurt with no reasonable backup to be found, fontenot tanked and soto either sucked or was hurt. that's a lot of bad production from a number of positions and we don't have a monster like pujols to carry the lineup.
  8. ok, so three questions: 1. Who's trading us a corner outfielder who's better than bradley? 2. What do we have to give up (in prospects) to get that player? 3. Is it really worth giving up very good prospects for what's likely to be a marginal improvement at the position? because the cubs are already doling out 110M to 7 players in 2010, bay and holliday are going to want long term (probably at least 5 years) deals at something like 15M per and the cubs already have enough of those, and you've got teams with big resources (yankees, red sox, cardinals will pay to keep holliday) in the market for a corner outfielder. even in this magical world where we can trade bradley without eating salary, we are very unlikely to get a premier corner outfielder.
  9. yeah this "trade him for nothing and eat some money in the process" is a fantastic way to improve your baseball team. i wish sometimes he'd shut the hell up and stop being a d-bag to the fans and media, but he's not a bad player and you can win with these types of players as long as you have the proper management to keep them at least a little bit in line.
  10. well at least our 2.5M/year utility man can lay down a bunt, even if he's inept at everything else.
  11. peoria leads 7-3; drew rundle is randomly having a big game with a single, homer, walk and 3 RBI. burke is 0-2 with a walk, lemahieu 1-3, lake 2-3, flaherty 1-3 with a double. jackson is out of the lineup again - not sure if it's because of the collision a few nights ago or what. archer was his usual entertaining self - 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 5 BB, 5 K. tennessee had a big comeback win with 2 runs in the 9th to stay a game behind west tennessee. colvin had 2 singles in 4 ABs, wright was 3-3 with a double and walk (future 4th outfielder, or AAAA guy?). castro didn't start but pinch ran. schlitter managed to not blow the game in the 9th. the smokies finish their season with a big 5 game series at west tenn next week. iowa was rained out - borrrring.
  12. a latin american teenaged shortstop who screws up routine plays too often? that makes him similar with 90% of his peers. edgar renteria? 33 errors in AA at age 19. hanley ramirez? 36 errors in A ball at age 18. elvis andrus? already went over him. omar vizquel? 25 errors in back to back years between A ball and AAA. inexperienced players, bad fields, lots of balls hit at them - they all make errors. as for "more trouble putting the bat on the ball" - it's a big difference in their K rates. cedeno's biggest problem throughout his minor league career, and upon reaching the majors, was his inability to make contact. castro largely doesn't have that problem; his K rate was a manageable 15% last year and he's cut it under 10% this year. that makes them very different types of hitters. castro isn't likely to flame out because of contact issues; if he fails, it's because he doesn't walk enough and doesn't hit the ball with enough authority when he puts it in play.
  13. 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 11 K, HBP for jay jax. aside from his BABIP against being over .500 tonight, i'd say it's a pretty great outing. he has made 2 errors though - they came on back to back plays in the 5th.
  14. lol @ strike one on lee. i know we suck and aren't trying, but come on.
  15. livan hernandez doesn't throw hard enough to crack a hard boiled egg and his arm is basically attached with string, silly putty and duct tape, there is no reason to not score runs off him.
  16. it's pretty telling that after coming home from a bike ride, i checked all the scores of the minor league games and then remembered that the cubs were playing.
  17. What the hell??? Which LLWS is she watching? maybe this woman is just a pedo and doesn't know it yet.
  18. I did an auction league with random people on ESPN last night, because I was bored and felt like doing an auction. the first person who was nominated was adrian peterson, and he went for $37. it was adrian peterson on the bears.
  19. jay jax - 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 9 K. zzzzzzzzzzz vitters has singled and (strike up the band) walked.
  20. lee's defense was pretty bad early in the year but it's improved (at least he has cut way back on the errors). elvis andrus made 32 errors in 106 games at low A, 31 errors in 125 games at high A and 32 errors in 109 games at AA. he leads the AL in UZR and has long been regarded as a premier defensive shortstop. errors are a terrible way to judge a guy's future defensive value, especially if the guy is in his teens as the errors are probably mostly due to a lack of experience and focus. if castro is still making 30+ errors 2 years from now i'll be concerned, but right now i'm more interested in his range, arm and ability to read the ball off the bat. I generally agree with what you are saying but... so is UZR. i don't have a huge boner for UZR or other defensive metrics, but by all accounts, andrus has tremendous range at SS and a very good arm, though he does make a careless play here and there. still, the rangers have given up the fewest runs in the AL (think about that for a minute) and the rangers are #5 in defensive efficiency. i have to think that andrus is a pretty big part of that.
  21. yeah... nobody really cares that much about middle relievers, but ideally you'd like to develop them in-house rather than have your GM throw lots of money at shiny objects coming off career years.
  22. lee's defense was pretty bad early in the year but it's improved (at least he has cut way back on the errors). elvis andrus made 32 errors in 106 games at low A, 31 errors in 125 games at high A and 32 errors in 109 games at AA. he leads the AL in UZR and has long been regarded as a premier defensive shortstop. errors are a terrible way to judge a guy's future defensive value, especially if the guy is in his teens as the errors are probably mostly due to a lack of experience and focus. if castro is still making 30+ errors 2 years from now i'll be concerned, but right now i'm more interested in his range, arm and ability to read the ball off the bat.
  23. what is this "jersey's team" crap? nobody in south jersey likes the devils.
