  1. or the splits. or the stats on how well a hitter or pitcher is doing recently.
  2. 16 home runs already for moss?!? sounds about right.
  3. angel hernandez: still a major league umpire. [tweet] [/tweet]

  5. It is okay for the Cubs to do good things in the fifth inning during national TV games, because Len sits in on the radio broadcast and does PBP instead of Coomer. ah okay, good to know.
  6. the contreras home run wasn't pat's best call, but i'm just glad that it came in the 6th inning because ron coomer would have horsefeathering butchered the call badly like he always does.
  7. Yeah. I'm trying not to overreact to literally one pitch. But Contreras started mashing last year and just hasn't stopped, through several stops. I want to see some data on his framing. And I want to see if Miggy can bounce back. If he's injured, that's probably the best hope right now. Maybe he just needs to get healthy. But, he's been hot garbage. At this point I don't care too much about how often guys play. We're so freaking good, it doesn't really matter. But, if things continue as they have, then Contreras could play a big part in our post-season plans. while the cubs don't have a huge number of veterans, ross would provide good leadership and tutelage, and i think some of the other guys in the clubhouse (like rizzo) are mature beyond their years and are good leaders. plus maddon is one of the best managers out there. i know the biggest concern with a young catcher is managing the pitching staff, but i think that the culture around the cubs right now is strong enough that he can grow into that role. plus they've got a better than 99% chance of winning the division, so now's a good time to figure out what they've got with a young player like contreras. i agree that maybe the best case scenario is that montero bounces back and starts playing like he did last year, when he was very good defensive and certainly passable offensively. this year he's been abysmal at throwing out baserunners, he's allowing wild pitches at an alarming rate, his hard contact rate is way down and he's hitting the ball on the ground more than he ever has before. it's not an understatement to say that he's been a liability. it's certainly possible that he'll improve, but it's also possible that this is the start of serious regression (he's about to turn 33) or that physical issues will keep him from playing at his best for the rest of the season. i really like bringing up contreras now because you can start to break him in while still giving montero a chance to improve his play (or possibly get healthy with a DL stint, if his back problems are the source of his bad performance this season).
  8. given how bad montero has been defensively (except for framing) and offensively (except for drawing walks), i think there's every chance that contreras is the starting catcher in the playoffs. hope he can make the most of this opportunity.
  9. some radio highlights from this one would be rad, BVCM
  10. Warren wasn't great, but some of these hits are infield dribblers and ground balls with eyes.

  13. yeah and even though richard has been a dumpster fire this year, he's had a shockingly high number of ground balls reach the outfield. problem is, when you can't strike hitters out (i.e. richard), running into bad luck on balls in play means you become useless.
  14. i don't want starlin back, i just want the adam warren who pitched for the yankees.
  15. nice to be winning in a game where the babip dragon is biting us in the ass pretty badly.
  16. now that federowitz is gone, richard is the obvious leader in the "why is he still on this team?" sweepstakes.
