  1. you can't complain about being 1-12 and 0-8 w/risp, that's just bad luck. but you CAN complain about lou batting tracy in a key situation. and nady against a RHP!!! soto and soriano are clearly better hitters against same-side pitchers than nady. it's just epically stupid the way that inning was managed. little league managers could do a better job - we need a run and we have bad hitters scheduled to bat; let's use our best hitters on the bench.
  2. pinch hitting options in the 8th inning, with stats this season: chad tracy: .154/.214/.231/.445 xavier nady: .200/.314/.300/.614 alfonso soriano: .292/.356/.508/.864 geovany soto: .362/.516/.511/1.027 you're using two pinch hitters back to back. pick two.
  3. or the outfielder who is hitting .351 with an OPS over 1.000 in the last two weeks.
  4. go [expletive] yourself lou. getting rid of him is even more important than getting rid of hendry at this point.
  5. he'd rather put nady up there than soriano or soto, against a RHP. lou is just mind-boggling in his ineptitude.
  6. leadoff double by byrd today; lou declines to bunt for fontenot (who pops out) and then pinch hits the awful chad tracy against clippard, resulting in (believe it or not) a strikeout. lou is severely hampering this team's ability to win baseball games and needs to be fired.
  7. lou has to either be completely senile or has bet most of his 2010 salary against the cubs. i can't think of any other reason that he'd be managing the team like this.
  8. ' Are we pretending that the Cubs were somehow a lock to be better than the Braves and Mets for that to be weird? the cubs are definitely worse than the braves and quite possibly worse than the reds and mets. hell the nationals even have a better record than us.
  9. http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/20100428_Nationals_Cubs_0_57_lbig_.png pretty funny to see the graph spike up to "cubs favored" as the hitters early in the inning get on base, then plummet back down as the guys behind them [expletive] the bed.
  10. can't wait to see how we [expletive] this up
  11. well we are leading in LOB 8-1, what do we get for that
  12. trevor hoffman gave up a grand slam last night to ryan doumit; the first batter hoffman faced in the ninth inning today with a one-run lead was ryan doumit - result, another home run.
  13. what the hell happened to fontenot's sneaky power? i didn't expect him to keep slugging over .500 like he did in '08, but now he's just a punch and judy hitter.
  14. according to espn gamecast there is a 74.1% chance of scoring with the bases loaded and 1 out. unless you're the cubs in which case it's closer to 50%.
  15. if he's a sinker ball pitcher then there's a good chance that every pitch will be a sinker that will result in an easy ground ball out, so nobody should ever swing at anything.
  16. i'm pretty certain that las vegas will heartily disagree with you.
  17. pretty sure we are the only team that wil nieves hits well against.
  18. if ARam can hit one of those deep fly balls he hit the last two days, he'll probably have himself a home run today.
  19. after losing a home series to the lousy astros.
  20. he plays the game the right way, assuming that making lots of outs and mediocre fielding at a number of positions is the right way to play.
  21. And you call yourself a Crusader... I asked a question about him like two weeks back when he was rumored as a possible assistant under McCaffery at Iowa. Doesn't look like that's happening though. sorry, i don't check this thread often. obviously being fired after one year as a head coach does not speak well to his abilities. like i said, our team badly underachieved this year and injuries were not a big problem. my observation - just from looking at box scores - was that defense really went downhill this season. under coach willard we were always strong defensively; this year we were one of the worst teams in the nation at forcing turnovers and using pomeroy's adjusted defense stat, we were #288 in the nation (compared with #118 last year and spending a lot of the willard years between #30 and #100). we also turned the ball over too much. i don't know if the new coach was totally to blame for the problems, but like i said, holy cross was picked to win the league with largely the same team that made the PL finals the previous year, and we were 9-22. obviously something was wrong.
  22. somehow this escaped me, but found out earlier this week that holy cross fired their coach (former ND assistant coach) after one year at holy cross. we were picked to win the league and ended something like 10-23, one of the worst years in school history. apparently the AD interviewed players after the season about whether to keep or can the coach, and the players gave a resounding vote of non-support. i guess if you made a mistake in the hire it's better to figure it out sooner rather than later, but if you know after a year that the guy sucks, then you really didn't do your homework the first time.
  23. guyer drew a walk in his first PA. he's pretty interesting because his discipline was bad at peoria in 2008 (19 BB, 63 K in 88 games), then he was really good in daytona last year (.347/.407/.453 with 24 BB and 34 K in 73 games) and God-awful at Tennessee ( pretty good in daytona last year (.190/.236/.291/.527 with 10 BB and 33 K in 57 games). so far this year he's off to a good start with tennessee and has 13 BB and 7 K in 19 games. maybe AA was too much of a jump for him last season. supposedly he has good tools so it's worth keeping an eye on him.
  24. i found this while looking up information about austin bibens-dirkx http://www.myspace.com/austindirkx hopefully baseball works out for him, because yikes to this music. edit - though it is Christian "rock" and that stuff is usually bad.
