i think huntington is actually doing all right. he should've gotten more in a few trades, but he's hardly the only guy to trade talent for prospects that ended up washing out (sabathia, cliff lee). the big thing as that the pirates are spending freely in the draft.

when is action occurring on opposite ends of the field in soccer? if a brawl is breaking out at one end? the only purpose i could see for a second referee is for one guy to watch the ball and then another guy to watch for players being obstructed as they're trying to run free.

yeah we did this with nashville a couple of years ago, traded for timonen and hartnell a few days before free agency and then signed them. -
none of them, but in baseball calls are blown all the time, some of them are really important and decide games or, in this case, a perfect game. and there's no replay to determine whether the call was right or wrong. i really don't know that a second referee would do much good in soccer.

considering he's 20 years old and hasn't had a game off since he was called up (i think), a day off wouldn't be a bad idea.

the flyers traded ryan parent (not surprising, considering how sparingly he played in the playoffs) for dan hamhuis and a conditional draft pick. i would guess the pick is a mid to late round pick and we'd get from nashville if we don't end up signing hamhuis to a long term deal. he'd be a great third pairing d-man, but i suspect that he's too expensive to fill that role and we'll end up trading carle or coburn. either that or we'll just put out a great defense and try to win with two turds (leighton/boucher) in net. -
i was excited because i'm going to a nationals game next week and was hoping it would be strasburg's turn in the rotation... instead i'm just going to a nats-royals game :-x
