  1. He's already got a bum arm and shoulder and now you want him to pull an ankle? =D> http://static.open.salon.com/files/gun_to_head1241048759.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2076/2069374281_7c627d5268.jpg
  2. yeah, who do they use to promote the team if they trade him? chase headley? a handful of pretty good pitchers? a great bullpen? nobody cares. i think they may try to keep him and hope he signs a team-friendly deal because he's a home-grown boy.
  3. sure there is, you're a manager who's mailing it in
  4. you can't just take a dump in a box and exchange that for one of the 10 or 15 players in the game. if you want gonzalez they're going to want either proven young major league talent (though they have to know that castro is off-limits) and/or premium prospects. vitters plus someone other than the cubs other top 5 prospects isn't good enough. if you want to trade for a player that good, it has to be pretty painful (like wells, vitters, jackson/archer plus a low minors live arm, i guess). as for zambrano, his babip is .385 and yes, he's allowing more line drives, but .385 is ridiculous. part of that is the cubs' lousy defense but most is bad luck. his xFIP is 4.33, which is really not far from where it's been since 2006. so yes, zambrano has had a lousy year, but it's not as bad as it looks and his offense really does add a lot to his value. releasing him or eating almost his entire salary would be a stupid overreaction (which is why the cubs will probably do it). hang onto him; he'll probably put up #3/4 starter numbers with his offense adding several runs above most pitchers.
  5. hopefully it's austin and not mark... well actually either one is crazy
  6. what's really scary is that tampa had the #1 overall pick the year that posey was drafted and went for tim beckham instead. imagine tampa with posey instead of john jaso or whoever is DH'ing right now? yikes that team would be good and beautifully positioned for years to come.
  7. ackerman was not awful (2 ip, 0 r) again. cameron greathouse (which sounds like a douchebag frat president) had a good start as well. 35 year old alvaro ramirez is 3-3 with a triple, continuing to prove that it's easy to beat up on kids half your age.
  8. well yeah, that's because lou has caught up and been playing him consistently for a month. he wasn't on pace for 120 starts when he was practically platooning with koyie [expletive] hill So you're upset because Soto's getting the appropriate playing time in the wrong order? Comparing his starts by month, we're talking about the difference in less than 1 game a week here. the stretch where lou was being a complete douche was may 17 to june 16. during that time the cubs played 27 games and geo started 16 of them. now since july 3rd, soto has started 24 of 27 games, and he missed two of those games because he fouled a ball off his foot. if you're trying to keep your good-hitting catcher fresh, why are you giving him lots of rest in the cooler time of the season and then working him like a horse when it's 90 every day?
  9. It increases the team's run expectancy. Why? If nothing else, 30 extra PA's for Pujols over the course of a season. 30 times a year the #2 hitter makes the last out of a ballgame? that seems like too much.
  10. reggie golden isn't playing again for the AZL cubs. he plays one game and then sits for two? lame. plus there aren't many interesting hitting prospects in short-season ball right now.
  11. watch espn for live sports and don't ever watch it otherwise. i guess pti is okay... maybe.
  12. If we're going to trade for one of the two, I'd much rather trade for Gonzalez, especially if the Nats' demands are as high as they sound. I think Gonzalez is going to cost more (in prospects) than Dunn. of course he is. there is no reason to consider trading for dunn now. if you want him, just sign him in the offseason.
  13. peoria's offense did next to nothing again and frank batista was mediocre. that's about all there is to say about that game. junior lake walked in his first PA. 30 BB/71 K isn't great (in 89 games) but it sure as hell beats 18 BB/138 K. he looked like a guy who could take a walk in the AZL, i wonder what happened to him last year. maybe he just got in a funk and wasn't coached out of it, or maybe he was just too raw in his development for full-season ball. either way, i hope this is a real breakthrough from him and not the type of "breakthrough" that kyler burke made.
  14. well yeah, that's because lou has caught up and been playing him consistently for a month. he wasn't on pace for 120 starts when he was practically platooning with koyie [expletive] hill
  15. viperblaze dropped josh hamilton for ty wigginton back in april. that should be an automatic 10 home run deduction.
  16. ah ok, it was written pretty poorly then
  17. huh? i thought jim joyce was voted best umpire in the game by the players.
  18. i think he has more than that. starlin castro had about 40 last year.
  19. i'd tell him to ignore it since the whole sophomore slump idea is bullcrap.
  20. i love how it took lou about 2/3 of the season to figure out that a catcher with a .400 obp and a .900 ops is a good thing, should be played most days and can bat higher than 7th or 8th in the lineup. way to pay attention lou!
  21. huh, didn't know he was that close to the leader (in the AL there are 6 guys with a BA above .324, including hamilton at .358 and miggy cabrera at .346). these days a lot of the guys who win batting titles are also home run hitters, but starlin seems to be in more of the wade boggs, tony gwynn mold of making lots of contact and spraying line drives around the park. he certainly appears to be a guy who will contend for batting titles throughout his career.
  22. who the [expletive] is viperblaze
  23. i don't even consider this year's team to be epically bad, like the 2006 team. that team had considerable amounts of playing time by stiffs like freddie bynum, ronny cedeno, juan pierre, john mabry, henry blanco, jerry hairston and, of course, neifi perez. their #5 starters were carlos marmol (6.08 era), angel guzman (7.39 era), juan mateo (5.32 era) and mark prior (7.21 era... R.I.P.) this team is just garden-variety bad. the only thing that's notable about them is that they've been one of the 10 worst teams in baseball with the 3rd highest payroll. that's extremely embarrassing and speaks to the complete incompetence of management, but as for the players on the field, they're nothing more than pretty lousy.
  24. he also made two errors... i'm excited about his bat but he needs to learn how to play a position without being bad at it. seems to me he could be a good offensive 2b and not have to throw the ball as far when fielding.
