  1. jeez that is their best option to start a game? he's their jr mathes
  2. I'm sure we'll have to use him tomorrow in a much closer situation too. i was going to say that we will probably lose tomorrow since the rockies are good and we are not, but it's dempster against some 27 year old guy making his major league debut, so we should have a reasonably good chance of winning.
  3. i'm pretty certain that hendry gave grabow and eyre those big deals because they had pretty good ERAs, and if a GM is basing his evaluation of relief pitchers on their ERA, shouldn't he be immediately fired?
  4. great signing hendry, maybe you can see if you can get him to stick around for another couple of years at a $3m/year bargain.
  5. i'm glad that the only person on the planet who thought that john grabow was worth 2 years and $7.5 million happens to be our general manager.
  6. i know pena has faced a lot of lefties and it's still early, but he's done nothing to dissuade me that he can no longer be a productive major league first baseman.
  7. have you seen the cubs' roster right now? i think he already is the franchise.
  8. as with a lot of his performances, i find myself wondering how the hell casey coleman didn't give up a lot of runs. barely over half of his pitches strikes, 1 walk for every K, lots of fly balls but minimal damage.
  9. if you have to bunt for a hit against a pitcher with such lousy stuff, you should be ashamed.
  10. uh how about keeping the clubhouse positive buddy? you really think the cubs could have pulled off that 75-87 record last year without his top-notch leadership?
  11. i don't think marlon byrd is the problem, i think it's the fact that marlon byrd is hitting third. if we had a high obp, high power guy - say, at 1B or corner OF - byrd would be fine for what he gives you in CF.
  12. just pencil castro's name into the lineup 8 times and hope the opposing manager doesn't notice.
  13. that post was a typical JeffH debacle.
  14. ebinger got drilled. on the plus side, cerda has a home run and a single.
  15. coming into this game tennessee's team line was .369/.432/.590/1.023
  16. i understand why, as a cubs fan, you'd like to pretend tyler colvin's minor league track record didn't exist, i just don't know why you'd like to make such an assumption when it comes to actually evaluating the player. Plus it's a lot easier to swallow a relatively low walk rate if the guy puts the ball in play a lot. If castro or ichiro are gonna put up an IsoD of 0.5, they're still getting on base at least 35% of the time. If Colvin does it, it's while he's striking out 120 times and his OBP is hair over .300. Which really is not going to cut it for a corner OF.
  17. to be fair, this is way funnier than if he'd just admitted his mistake and moved on.
  18. yes, a WHIP of 2.00 is astronomically better than a WHIP of 18.20.
  19. http://thebaseballcube.com/profile.asp?P=Joseph-Coleman oh well since a website says it, it must be true. by the way, WHIP stands for Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched. so what you are telling us is that he has pitched 5 innings this season and amassed a WHIP of 18.20, meaning that he has allowed 18.20*5 = 91 walks and hits in just 5 innings of work. you'd think the cubs would have removed him from that game a bit earlier, since he apparently went through the brewers' lineup a minimum of 11 times in just 5 innings.
  20. a whip of 18.20? yep someone is definitely making up stats in this thread.
  21. learn to read, says the guy who accused other posters of making up numbers that were clearly identified as his numbers as a starter in the major league. this is entering cubbiebum territory of self-humiliation.
  22. Damn CBSsports and making up their stats just cause Coleman had a talented family. Aww do the real stats hurt your feelings? You seem to take it personal? you're probably looking at his overall stats. his statistics as a starter in the major league are exactly what was posted earlier in this thread. i'd dispense with this line of belligerent arrogance before you make an even bigger fool of yourself.
  23. Who else should the Cubs throw out? ryan o'malley had a good spot start that one time, what's he up to these days
  24. I must say I haven't been overly impressed with anything I have seen out of him. I hadn't watched him pitch very much with Tampa, but I was expecting a guy with #1 or 2 type stuff. regardless of his stuff, he didn't put up those types of numbers while in TB. you don't trade for a guy with middle of the rotation results and expect to get an ace. if you get that improvement, then bonus.
