  1. miguel's batista ERA has apparently been sprinkled with pixie dust, considering that his whip is 1.71.
  2. diamond is well on his way to getting released again.
  3. oh look another guy nobody has ever heard of coming up in the clutch for the cards.
  4. thanks koyie... 6 runners left on base and a dropped ball that would've prevented a run. what an utterly useless player.
  5. not that much, but i think that lack of funds is as much the reason for that as any sort of growth on his part.
  6. don't forget his great leadership, this team wouldn't have that sterling 15-18 record without a solid veteran hand like koyie.
  7. It's apparently his groin, but he was able to finish the top of the first after tweeking it so hopefully it shouldn't keep him out for more than a handful of games. welington castillo was PH for in the third inning of a one-run game in iowa this evening, so either he's also hurt or the (chicago) cubs are expecting that he'll be needed.
  8. i'd say that there are two qualities i'd be most interested in - a strong understanding of player valuation, and a consistent vision of what it takes to succeed in the long run. i definitely want someone who will improve the farm system and dedicate considerable resources to international free agency and the draft - that goes more into the second point i raised. i think hendry is pretty poor when it comes to player valuation - he doesn't give me any impression that he understands or uses advanced metrics with respect to defense, he consistently overpays for relievers with mediocre peripherals but good ERAs, etc. it also drives me crazy that every offseason his plan seems to change based on a random weakness of the previous year's team - get more lefthanded, get more speed, etc. it's like playing whack a mole - you steal more bases the next year, but your team doesn't get on base... or you can hit RHP a little better but the team defense takes a hit. have a vision of what it takes to build a good ballclub and stick to it.
  9. also it's milton bradley, i think that bridge has been blown up with about 100 tons of dynamite.
  10. simpson pitched one inning - 2 hits allowed, 1 bb, 1 k, 0 r - then came out. the news just keeps getting better #-o
  11. i be bitter too if i had a nascar driver's name and had to live in shitty st louis.
  12. sounds like a guy you'd definitely want to draft at #16 overall
  13. maybe if you cared more about prospects yours would have been good enough to steal halladay off a hapless rube like myself
  14. hey maybe if you keep posting that i won't compete until 2015 it will stop being completely wrong
  15. pretty crazy to win a triple OT game and have only four guys score double digit points (the fourth one having just 10)
  16. he hasn't even been that bad this year. the cards have had by far the best offense in the NL, despite pujols playing far below his ability (the reason, of course, is that berkman has turned into steroids-era sosa and matt holliday is playing like ted williams, not to mention david freese and his babip near .500)
  17. trading halladay makes my team weaker for the next 4 months. that's it.
  18. a couple of years from now when my team is routinely pounding on yours i will be sure to remind you of that comment :P
  19. If only you had Roy Halladay on the hill to really stick it to your opponent...... :D don't worry, turner and miller and delgado all had excellent outings today and mike trout hit his 6th home run in less than 100 ABs. the future is very bright.
  20. my offense is 7-13 with 4 2b, 2 hr and 10 rbi today... awesome.
  21. you can't fault anyone for swinging at any specific pitch in a given count... it's if he keeps getting himself behind in the count or hacking too early that you can criticize.
  22. i like the part where their entire football team and basketball team getting cars from one dealership didn't raise any red flags.
  23. yeah this i agree with... the payroll was $134M in 2009, $144M in 2010 and is $134M this year. the cubs are at about the upper limits of their payroll so it's not like they're just saving big coin and turning the club over to the promising young kids. the cubs haven't been able to spend much money the past 2-3 years because they're overloaded with large contracts.
